I've been ainting this guy for a while now (a week or so) he is to go on eBay because

- I dont play eldar
- I needs the money... make that 'want'

I think your Wraithlord looks good but there are one or two things you could do to really liven it up. The blue doesn't seem to work very well. It appears to be lying on top of the black instead of looking like different parts of the model are different colours. I also think you should try to have some fun with that big sword it's got.

You could paint the sword any of many colours. Silver would be fine though. I think it would be a good idea to paint it a different colour as it would add more variety to the appearance of the model and make it much more interesting. Painting the jewels to look like Eldar shiny stones would be good too, it will certainly increase demand for it if you sell it. I hope this helps and I do think it is s well painted model.;)

That is a gnarly design on a sweet Wraithlord. I really like the subtle nuances of the light blue, they seem to make a pattern but not really... very Eldar-esque.

The freehand is what gets me; fine for a gaming piece, very good even but for something you're selling it becomes the selling point and it doesn't look smooth enough to my eye, it's likely to hold the whole piece back. The transfer on the crotch has a problem in the shiny area around it but varnish should remove that. The blue on the tabbard's nice but I'ld still want to tidy up the edges , it is the easiest bit to do though.

Leech, I dont exactly want to paint the sword silver (i cant highlight metallics at all), so what would you suggest I paint it?, as mentioned, I hav not used a dullcoat yet, and I always use shiney-coat last.

There are several options. I would suggest that you try something that contrasts well with the Wraithlord. Green could work nicely. However it might look a little to bright and also have over tones of venom, green on aliens of any kind is often viewed as poison or generally evil. You could also try to use a shade of grey. Paint it black and then highlight it up with dark grey and then carefully draw white lines along the edges of the blade.

I can also help you try to tackle the silver. To paint metallics what you can do is paint the sword very smoothly with bolt gun metal. Once this is dry you can lightly drybrush the sword with chainmail (if you have any chainmail that is). then take some silver and using a tiny brush with even less paint you can paint along all of the edges with silver. This will make the blade look very sharp. :party:

editIt looks like you have moved on with your Wraithlord. The sword looks much better now, very good. I would suggest that you try to add some more lighter greys to the base of the model to bring out those rocks. Though I think the model is certainly much better now.

Thanks for the advice on the sword, though I cant paint it again, as I already call him lumpy (3 designs on the head, 7 odd coats of paint in the black areas of the head, 5 coats on the tabard, 8 around the sword design, 3 on the actual sword). I dont think im going to so anything more with the base, as I really do want to make it subtle and not draw attention away from the model itself. Heh, I dont think its ever happened that someone posts while another is typing a response to a previous post of theirs.

It does happen from time to time. But not very often mind you, one can become a little paranoid if you think about it too much as you could post and then see your post become obsolete instantly, OOO, fear:0;o.

I do think your Wraithlord has come on quite well. You are right that putting more paint on it now would be a mistake. If you are calling it lumpy that usually means it's time to stop. Very good to see it progress as it has.8Y

I agree with the others on pretty much all they've said. It's a nice piece but it could be made even better with just a little effort.
So, I'll just jump straight on to the advice;)

First is the freehand.
While I bet it looks great from across the table, that's not how you'll sell it on eBay. A pic showing the model that size will get some serious problems attracting buyers.
It does look a bit lumpy as it stands, the freehand that is, my advice would be to have another go at them but using much thinner paint this time. It almost looks as if you didn't water the paints down at all.
Just have another go with watered down white to make it look way more smooth.

Then clean up the edges using thinned down black paint or even a pencil if you feel the brush being an awkward medium for such.

You could also benefit from highlighting the edges on them back...fins? Or even all them hard edges. The bright line gives some of the 'eavy Metal look to a model and I think eBuyers like that.

The last piece of advice is to avoid the term "Pro-painted" in your auction. Nothing sounds worse and more amateurish than that.

Oh, and make sure to put the starting price at a level so you'll be satisfied with selling it to even a single bidder. I learned this the hard way...

Yeah, I really hate it when people flag their auctions with PRO PAINTED and it looks as though they have been painting with a toothbrush. I had already planned on starting the auction at the base price of the model, as the independant retailer I got it from has 20% off all GW stuff, so no matter what, im making 8$:D

Nice, but it looks like he was made of stone. Can you make him look like he is made out of Hydrotechnic Imaterium Wraithbone?? lol, just kidding, but try to make him look metallic and not stoney.

The freehand patterns are quite uneven. Touch them up and you'll have one fine model, that will sell much better than in the current state.
