We installed a new mod today. Lets quote the description.

Check out your profile page Experience tab for more information about your experience and points

vBExperience is an advanced level and activity system. It will calculate an activity and experience score for every user based on their activites on the forum. Now your users will see how their level is increasing by participating on your forum.

and how its calculated

Yeah, it is a little confusing.

all that I know is that....

I'm lvl 6!!!

Cheredanine
April 4th, 2008, 16:10
the top bar (your points and level) is a measure of your participation and contribution to the forum, the bottom bar is a measure of how active you are (on the forum)

Although things do seem to be still changing, 5 mins ago I was level 95, now I am level 16! perhaps I am multiclass?

Blackhat
April 4th, 2008, 16:39
I added a "level scheme for larger boards" (something like that) so we all fell down some levels. :)

Blackhat, is there any chance we could get a more detailed breakdown of how much each of the factors weigh on the new level bars, along with a more detailed description of each factor?

Thanks

:)

Its not very important, just be active on the forum, tag your topics, reply to others, vote, post pictures in your albums, leave messages on others member pages and get new friends and you get 1-2 points for everything you do

This is mostly for fun and I dont wanna go into some deep-study-of-the-system topic like the reputation system did.

In the quicklinks you can see the "scoreboard"

Whoa, this is well... erm... different :D

I like the new look, makes me look more important! ^_^

Will there be an option to disable showing these three extra bars in the future?

No

Hmmm looks very interesting, shiney and new. So what do you get for filling up the bars. ;)

Hmm, the current all time leaders in posts and rep only fill about 1/4 of the bar. Maybe if the 'max' level rendered in the bar where turned down until they fill it about 2/3, the bars would present more visual interest (because there would be more than a few pixels difference variety in them =) ) and provide information without having to mouse over? =)

Interesting.

I just noticed a little medal next to Nemesis' username. It says posting award... Perhaps we should get that changed to spamming award? :P

Being serious, what are these? How many are there? How do we get them?

Whew... I just passed the Fluffmasters test. If I don't get a 'level up' for that then I don't know what to do.

No

Fair enough. I think it's good that you're adding more content to the forum and more gadgets for us to play around with. It keeps things fresh and new around here.

However, I like to skim through threads only reading the text that I'm interested in, thus, whenever another badge, experience bar, blog entry counter, post counter and whatnot is added under a posters username the post becomes quite big, even if it's message content is nothing more than a one liner, which ends up in alot of extra scrolling
Don't get me wrong, all the gadgets you're adding seem to be getting good critisism, but I myself am not really interested in what level I am or how many gold stars other members have given me, so I had been hoping to see an alternate skin for the site in the future, a lite version so to speak, that doesn't show all the extra stuff I normally just ignore or scroll past.

Did you print the diploma ? You need to prove you passed for us to give you a medal for it

yeah I know it can easily become to much stuff on the sidebar, but I've been thinking of maybe hiding it into some collapsable block with some +/- signs

staged_war1
April 5th, 2008, 15:10
The +/- idea for shrinking down the sidebar would be a phenomenal addition to the way things operate. I obviously can't speak for anyone else on the matter, but you've definitely got my vote in favor!

Oh man I thought I quit World of Warcraft, looks like I'm back in the level system again...:0

Its funny, the colors of the three bars are the same colors of my chaos army I'm painting.

I also vouch for the +/- idea too.

You can now view simple postbits by going to your cp > options here
http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions

and enable the checkbox called "simple postbits"

Ive just been messing around with the ranking tables, its a pretty cool addition, nice one BH :)

And Woo!! only 4 of us with 100% activity. Now that's dedication... or spamming, whatever you want to call it lol. A 5th is close, but the rest of you are miles off :P

PHoenix, where are did you find the ranking table info? Also, I'm wondering why you don't have the 'activity award' badge for having 100% activity, as Cher does (found in the top right by his avatar).

Huh!? Yeah! Wheres my badge?! Lol :P

Rabbit, where someone has posted, click once on their name (double click will take you to their profile) You get a dropdown menu, select the bottom option. You can click the headings of the table to order them from highest to lowest, or visa versa.

Calculation of the activity

The system calculates the activity by taking the average post count of the ten most active user and comparing it to own post count. This can be set to count only the last X days, f.e. 21 days (controlable via AdminCP) .

Check of Pololo, who has a level rank of 98!
http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/xperience.php?do=getall&page=5

What's the deal with all of these inactive users, who have been with the forum since 1969? Was there a major server transfer at some point in the past that defaulted all of the users present at that time to a "join date" to 1969.

Blackhat, it's a very nice touch, having the option to look at member ranks. 8Y

I have just added it :) Look a few posts above.

Go to your user control panlen then options. You should see a checkbox called something like simple postbit. Check it and your done!

Ah, that's just great. Username, Title and an avatar. More than enough for the eye to quickly identify the poster and now I won't have to scroll past hundreds of pixels worth of data I don't really care much for. Much appreciated, you've just saved me alot of seconds per thread I read. :>

The activity bar is useful for a quick visual glance, but the level and level up bars, everyone is so similar it seems a little pointless in that visual form. If i disable it, im hoping i can still see stats in each persons drop down menu. There are no disadvantages to disabling are there?

Every third month we randomly select one in ten users without it dissabled, place them against the wall and shoot them :)

Lol, great response. Though i think you got it a bit wrong... in your approach, disabling saves you from the firing squad :P

Although strangly, the simplified info panel removes all the old bits and leaves the new bars, oh well lol, ill stick with it.

Oh no, its fine Blackhat. I just thought the bars would go, and the rest stay, hoping i could still see the bars in each persons drop down.

To be honest if you want to be able to please everyone then you're going to have to make the thing fully customisable... which is probably too much effort, no need to stress yourself :)

Great new service which I not going to disable (even though I might get shot by chrera, lol) I'm really high on activity, yeah, but pretty low on the rest boo, sreiously though its really good new service that keeps things fresh, although it could lead to more spamming as people try to get threre levels up, don't worry blackhat as you said it was mainly fun, so I'll try not to open my mouth to much,

Gilli

P.S what happened to the avatar blackhat, I loved the old one, now its just black,

Interesting, though I thought it looked a bit odd at first I have to say I like it. I've always wanted to level up!

Blackhat
April 7th, 2008, 21:47
I dont know what you guys think, but we could remove it from the viewable area of the postbit, because you would still have the option to look at it by clicking the username ?

Any comments on that ?

Phoenix
April 7th, 2008, 22:55
Yea that would be good BH, although ive decided im happy to keep he lot where it is now, decided i like it :)

And its good to see that Avatar back, with added star! :)

gilli247
April 7th, 2008, 23:03
I think that the system is pretty fine as it is IMO, for people who don't want it they can simply disable it and for those who want it (like me) then won't disable it. I really like it and thnk its a good new system to have,

Gilli

P.s the avatar is back again blackhat :)

Blackhat

to clean up the postbit you will not see the bars, but click a usersname then you will see it. The options to enable or disable "simple postbits" is still located in your cp > options

gilli247
April 9th, 2008, 19:32
I hope my input doesn't annoy you rather, you find it constructive *fingers crossed*. Anyway I said that since I've got negative feedback (for once) and it is: I think it was better when you could see people VB experiance in the post bit as I liked seeing, it, aslo if your internet connection is reasanably slow you don't want to wait to see the wanted info so don't bother looking at it so it seems sidelined. Perhaps if it isn't to much of a faf you could have an extra option as to weather you want to see the VB experiance as well as the option to see nothing or post count, rep etc. Failing that I think putting back the VB experiance onto the post would be good,

Just my thoughts, as I said its just constructive advice,

Gilli

Thanks

I think its the picture albums which you can create in your profile.
