View Full Version : Looking to commission a painter starting in June/July NecroNid April 10th, 2008, 20:35 Hi. I know this may seem like blasphemy in this forum but as stated in the title I am looking for someone to paint for me. It will probably be starting in June but may be a bit earlier/later depending on funds. I am trying to get a jump on this so I can see who is available, quality of work, cost, etc... Also am looking into my local game store to see if there is any interest. Basically I am looking for someone to finish what I have started. I have 6 armies between Fantasy and 40K and only one is 95% painted. The rest are all in various stages ranging from 0% to about 60%. I am not looking for Golden Demon quality, just decent tabletop quality. Something along the lines of a basecoat, highlight, and an ink for example. Also possibly some assembly as I really hate putting together metal miniatures. I would prefer someone in the U.S. to save on shipping costs. Someone close to Aurora, IL. would be perfect but I am willing to ship items. Please let me know via this thread or PM so I can get a list of possible painters together. I can also answer any questions you have. Thanks. MrDee April 10th, 2008, 23:04 I would consider it but I feel the UK is a little too far away matey, move over here and maybe I can help you.
Damien Seasonreaper April 10th, 2008, 23:35 Same problem for me, living in the UK, plus I really don't have much time... And nah, I'm pretty sure most people here are fine with you wanting commissions. I also know theres a few people around here who do commissions so hopefully one of them will notice this thread and help you 8Y. Can't really remember who though, so don't ask me to find them :|. Killswitch April 11th, 2008, 00:32 I can help you out. I'll be on summer break, so I will have loads of time. I'm down here in Memphis, Tennessee, so not too hard. PM me for more details.
-J slorak April 11th, 2008, 02:23 I can be a commission fiend at times. Right now my June is open... Details on my website. It is in the process of being updated right now but I do have some pictures up and will have more up in the next few days...

If that is not enough of an example do a search for my posts here and you will see quite a bit of my work.
Cheers,
-Mike Tsele April 11th, 2008, 15:11 If you want I can hook you up with a painter... send me a PM if interested to talk to him... 8Y Cypher_Redeemed April 11th, 2008, 16:34 what are yiou having painted Cheredanine April 11th, 2008, 16:44 I would look up Blue Table Painting, I know people who have used them to get armies to table top standards, they are USA based and have a studio and a number of artists (and used to advertise on LO) NecroNid April 11th, 2008, 19:33 I would look up Blue Table Painting, I know people who have used them to get armies to table top standards, they are USA based and have a studio and a number of artists (and used to advertise on LO)
I have looked at their website and they look very good. The only thing was the price, it seemed a bit high to me. (Ex. I believe it would be between $800-$1000 for my Lizardman army.)Maybe I will find out that they are not when I start to collect more info from others. I have never commissioned anything before so I really don't know the going rate for what I am looking for. That is why I am starting the seeking process so early.
what are you having painted
I am looking for someone to paint for me:
1) Finish my 2000 pt. Ogre Kingdoms army. It would be 2 Gorgers, 2 Butchers, 1 Tyrant, 24 Gnoblars, and finish off my Bulls, Guts, and Leadbelchers. I have done the skin and pants of 6 Bulls, 16 Guts, and 4 Belchers. The rest of the details need to be painted.
2) 2000 pt. Wood Elf army. 2 Treemen, 6 Treekin, 24 Dryads, 2 Branchwraiths, 1 Spellsinger, 10 Wild Riders(converted from Glade Riders & Chaos Marauders into Centaurs)
3) 2500 pt Lizardman army. 6 Salamanders w/ handlers, 16 Saurus Cavalry, 5 Terradons, 8 Kroxigor, 16 Saurus Warriors, 48 Skinks(24 are almost done), 1 Slann Mage, 1 Old Blood on Carnosaur, 1 Scar Veteran on foot.
4) Finish Tyranid army. 3 Carnifex, 1 Zoanthrope, 3 Biovore & mines, 3 Raveners, 10 Gargoyles, 3 Warriors, 1 Hive Tyrant, 24 Spinegaunts, ? Genestealers( I forget how many, around 20 I think).
5) 2000 pt. I.G Armored Company. 1 Basilisk, 2 Hellhound, 3 sentinels, 6 Leman Russ.
Obviously I am not looking to have this all done this summer. The Ogres, Lizardmen, and Tyranids are the priorities in that order. If the work is good and the price is right(and my money holds out:)) then I will definitely need all of this painted eventually.
Thanks for all the replies already. To those of you who have expressed interest I am in the process of searching out your work. I don't get on LO every day so it could be awhile. Trust me that I did not forget about you. Also, now that you know what I am looking for if you have ideas on cost, feel free to PM me. Thanks again. C/-Rt3r April 11th, 2008, 21:00 I myself am a commission painter (locally) and i can say from experience and looking around at different stuff you are going to be shelling out alot of cash to get that little bundle painted. BlueTablePainting is probally one of the cheapest services around. At my current prices your lizardmen army would cost 909 bucks. Search several websites, talk to painters and you will get a good idea of whats what. I know it is alot. I am just trying to get an idea on prices from people as maybe a long-term relationship kind of deal. I am in no hurry to get it all painted. We only play for fun at my house so nobody cares but I would like them to look nice. I do get around to painting sometimes so I will probably end up doing part of the list on my own as well.

So far from what I've seen most people's prices seem to be pretty close together so I guess that is just the going rate. I have a couple months before I can start this anyway so I can look around a bit. Cyndane April 14th, 2008, 18:56 I'm not quite sure how close Aurora is to the Battlebunker in Downer's Grove but you might be able to find someone a bit more local to you to handle this painting project. I could probably offer to help you, though I'm actually working on my own Eldar army still which I barely touch at the moment.
I remember way back when a friend had me paint his entire bretonnian and lizard men armies. We based it all on a low cost of like 2-3.00 a figure (sounded like a good deal at the time) though he did cover the cost of some various paints that I already did not have or that I knew I'd need more of depending on the paint schemes he had in mind. Though lizardmen were a bit easy to paint as it was usually spray with black, drybrush whatever main color, paint other colors, ink, varnish done for the most part. Tsele April 14th, 2008, 19:02 My friend just got his site up and running... needs improvements though but later on!
wakedean.co.uk (http://www.wakedean.co.uk/) The Daywalker April 15th, 2008, 01:39 Hell man, you should probably stop by at the battle bunker once in a while and I will assure you that you will find someone who will paint your stuff. You could also try Paintedfigs.com - Main Gallery of what you get for the lowest miniature painting rates on Earth (http://www.paintedfigs.com/) they are a good site and get your stuff done cheap and to a good standard. When you email them tell Luke that Crumpsky from adeptus informed you and he might give you a discount...thats a slight might but hey its worth a try. | |
