When playing, how technical are you with rules and correcting your opponent??

I only have 1 opponent where I live who happens to be a best friend, we started the hobby together. During a game, I correct him on things more times than I'd like to count. Sometimes I feel bad for correcting him so many times that I just let little things slip by, but inside it just kills me lol. It's not on anything specific, its just the whole game in general. I know he's read through the rulebook a couple times, or so he tells me, but it's like it's the first or second game we've ever played. There are games where I correct him on the same things 3-4 times and its the same thing I had to cerrect him on 3-4 time the game previous. There are times I also feel like I know more about what is in HIS army codex than he does.

There are other things too. For example when he's moving his squads.....he plays guard so has big bases on his hvy weaps teams. Well when he moves it if it can't fit he makes room obviously, but in doing this he sometimes moves his troops 2-3" further than the max possible move of 6". Sometimes its to the left or the right, but sometimes its forward which can actually make a big difference in a game where you must be close to objectives/markers or other things like that.

I dont look at myself as super technical rules freak, but I do like to play by them. I know its a hobby game and its suppose to be fun which it is. I correct him on rules that help him out sometimes and dont others so I'm not being one sided about and just correcting on things that help me.

Does anyone else have this problem or am I just being too uptight???

just to clarify - how many games have you played with him overall - only a rough number. You have to remember that some people are slow and other quick and you might just have picked things up much quicker than he has - give him time. Furher I sometimes find that playing music during games (background music) sometimes helps as larger armies like guards and nids take longer to get through moving than others - this can in a new player lead to them rushing things through which can lead to movment errors - just set the pace a little slower perhapse

Well we've played a good 12-15 games. I know this isn't a lot, but it should be enough to know that you subrtact your BS from 7 to get your hit roll and that WS is what is used in HtH. I mean we still need to look up rules for the more complicated things in the game, but some of the basics should be a known fact at this point. We always have music playing in the backround, which is very nice to have.

I should correct when I said he is the only opponent in the area. There is a small group of ppl who play occasionally, but I want to get better at the game before I persue that situation. Completing this task can be tough when you constantly have to correct your opponent.

I have the same problem, only my opponent never even red the rules...
He just assumes everything I say is correct... This puts alot of presure on me LOL

Also, in the club I sometimes play, I have to correct them about their OWN army

2 or 3 inches is a lot of piss take, I would cock an eye brow on that and make a subtle or not so subtle comment, if it's someone I don't know could be a genuine mistake/ignorance, could be a hard ball seeing what he can get away with. A mate, help em out, unless they really should know better.

The rules are there for a reason; to make it a fair and enjoyable game for both players.

It depends on who I am playing. Most people I play for fun, so it don't get all rules-laywer on them, but other times I'm playing a pickup game at GW and I get some rat-child that doesn't know whats he's doing. On top of that they usually act like they're gonna smoke my team, even though I haven't lost a game there in 8 months(seriously.) I get a little upset when people start quoting rules that I've never heard of, with conviction that makes me question myself, to only open the book and find the exact opposit of what they we're trying. I also have stop playing people that don't have a hard-copy of their codex, even though I have all the codecies on my psp with me when I play.

Some people try and take control of the game rule wise, if you know what i mean. Some people arn't very understanding and some are real no-it-alls.

I hate it when people start watching and crowding round (well not that part) but when they start commenting and counting your combat res when they don't actually know what banners etc you have in there.

For example;

Random guy: "you have to challenge him with your blood knight champion"
Me: "I don't have one"
Random guy: "you do, he's there"
Me: "what do you mean i do?, thats not even a blood knight model its my vampire lord".
Random guy: "Ever blood knight has to challenge"
Me: "no, look here in army book"
Random guy: "oh"

I swere this happens to me all the time! it really stresses me out.

In a friendly game at the local I'll let some things slide unless I know the player is experienced and should know better.

At a tournament I'm a real stickler, especially for the little things, mainly because I'm helping my opponent as much as myself. If they break a rule, no matter how small they run risk of having the match forfeited and having a massive impact on their total score. Where possible I stop them breaking it or correct them so there's minimum fuss, but if it's situation where they've broken a rule and there's no getting around it (for example, the oft broken rule of no more than 1 of each type of magic item on a character in WFB) then I have to tell them. If I don't someone else will and chances are their penalty will be even bigger.
