View Full Version : The Real Favorite 40k Tank Thread Hive Fleet Hydra April 16th, 2008, 19:40 (i screwed up on the other one, lets try again)
hey, I was bored and decided to see everyone's favorite tank! The Winning Tank will be honored as LO's Unofficial 40k Tank! Until the next poll, at least. THis does not include Titans, or any tank that does not have a profile in the current Codexes (Except for the Baneblade. It's special. :))
EDIT: THE RESULTS ARE IN!!!!!!! THE UNOFFICIAL LO's FAVORITE TANK IS, EDGING OUT THE TAU HAMMERHEAD BY 2 VOTES: THE LEMAN RUSS!!!!
STANDINGS: THE TOP 5
1. Imperial Guard Leman Russ: 16 Votes
2. Tau Hammerhead: 14 Votes
3. Space Marines Predator: 11 Votes
4. Eldar Fire Prism: 10 Votes
5. Imperial Guard Baneblade: 9 Votes
It was a very close race and I'd like to thank all the people who voted. Thank you.
AND YES, THE TYRANID CARNIFEX IS A TANK ( got to have at least ONE Tyranid Choice in there)
IF YOUR TANK IS NOT HERE ON THE POLL, STATE IT ON THE THREAD AND I WILL KEEP A LIST ON THIS POST! Tsele April 16th, 2008, 20:04 Whirlwind for me... all the way! Stack up three or more, for large games, in the edge of the table and watch as they destroy upcoming enemies... ;) gilli247 April 16th, 2008, 20:09 My favirite tank has to be the predator not partiularly because I like it but because I have at least one in almost every chaos or space marine list and have and more often then not I have 2. Its just a brilliant AT weapon that I use in almost evry game,
Gilli Hive Fleet Hydra April 16th, 2008, 20:09 The Competition starts to heat up, with the Dreadnought, Whirlwind, and Predator tied for first! Tsele April 16th, 2008, 20:14 The Competition starts to heat up, with the Dreadnought, Whirlwind, and Predator tied for first!
Don't forget the Tau Hammerhead... 8Y Swamp_slug April 16th, 2008, 20:16 Rack up one for the hammerhead. Sleek lines, really big gun, what's not to like? RobtheGuru April 16th, 2008, 20:58 I have to say Whirlwind. The model looks amazing, its a shame the rules dont allow for Anti-Power armour, ah well. Intrepid April 16th, 2008, 20:59 IG Hellhound for best overall. A threat to MEQs, death personified to anything less, high accuracy, good armor, good price, scoring unit and goes in a Fast Attack slot so you don't have to skimp on the battle cannons! FabricatorGeneralMike April 16th, 2008, 21:01 With my vote thats 3 for the good ol Hammerhead.... gotta love that Rail Cannon...best tank in the game hands down. Especially with all the bells and whistles...:ninja: Pixie April 16th, 2008, 21:04 Hmm... on the poll I voted Hammerhead... but personally I'm hesitantly going to say Immolator... what better way to purify humanity of its sins than with a massive flamethrower? Dawnrunner April 16th, 2008, 21:17 You completely forgot the Exorcist and the Immolator. sithjack April 16th, 2008, 21:19 The mighty Leman Russ, the proud heart of nearly every guard army. Always a good decision, always. Pixie April 16th, 2008, 21:27 You completely forgot the Exorcist and the Immolator.
I know! He totally forgot that, and instead only conveniently remembered exactly 20 different tanks before he cut off. He also forgot whatever it is Orks stumble around in. As well as a couple of other Eldar bits. wntrrvn April 16th, 2008, 21:32 And no love for the Exorcist. Sigh. But now I see that this has been mentioned. But that is where my vote would be. Toastee April 17th, 2008, 00:08 I don't see how Piranhas, Sentinals and Dreadnoughts are tanks, (At least not in 40k terms.) but either way I have to say the Whirlwind.
I've always had a soft spot for them, and also worked and with MLRS before, so Whirlys always have a love with me. Shiz_Vaerth April 17th, 2008, 00:19 I'm suprised that he could possibly forget the Eldar Falcon Grav tank as people are always complaining about it's holofields and skimmer fast movement. Personally I vote Falcon but poll-wise it's Fire Prism all the way. Small blast lascannon with longer range = Kiss your termies goodbye :ninja:.
EDIT: I also noticed that you not only missed out a lot of tanks, but also included a lot of things that aren't really tanks. So it seems to be "What is your favourite model with an Armour Value?" Mastershake April 17th, 2008, 00:34 Hammerhead, while other tanks may have better speed, firepower or armor, little have all three in spades like the hammerhead.
I've always had a soft spot for them, and also worked and with MLRS before, so Whirlys always have a love with me.
Yeah, but an MLRS could easily wipe out the entire battlefield from across the gaming store. Whirlwinds just throw rocks and hope for bad armor saves and pinning tests. Yea, I know.... but it still doesn't stop the Whirly from looking cute trying to accomplish it though... xD magila April 17th, 2008, 00:48 Chimera. For it's amphibious abilities. gliven07 April 17th, 2008, 01:10 Baneblade all the way. Hive Fleet Hydra April 17th, 2008, 01:38 OMG people, i got the top 20 off of my head, i only got 4 races: IG, Tau, SM, and CSM. Please stop flaming at me for this accident. Jeez. I EVEN STATED THAT I ACCIDENTALY DID THAT AND WOULD RECORD THE VOTES. STOP FLAMING ( if i could, i would give you all negative rep) Mongooseo April 17th, 2008, 02:06 Falcon grav tank, if you're keeping the running tally. Fire prism if your not. Konstantin April 17th, 2008, 02:09 The Defiler for the pure fact of the insane ammount of conversions that can come out of the kit.
Fluff wise. Eh. omgitsduane April 17th, 2008, 02:54 Is this our favourite visually or effectively? Because I love the look of both the predator and the defiler but the defiler is way more useful in my opinion. Seasonreaper April 17th, 2008, 03:01 Defiler for me out of the things up there. I just like the whole idea of the vehicle and it's a pretty nice model. The soulgrinder looks a lil to... comical for me :D. Takeda April 17th, 2008, 03:47 hammerhead by far
it can shoot on the fly (literally, it flies) 72" of ap1 railgun - it only inflicts penetrating hits, and itsself only takes glancing hits (if it moves. skimmer rules)
even the toughest av14 tanks only have half a chance against that s10 railgun.
but that's all just statistics. lets not forget how stylish it is
come on. its a flying tank Takeda April 17th, 2008, 03:54 what weapons are a falcon armed with? Hive Fleet Hydra April 17th, 2008, 04:25 Umm, this is for both. Which is for YOU, your favorite vehicle in 40k. Not necessarily more effective, the coolest, the awesomest... basically, your favorite. Hive Fleet Hydra April 17th, 2008, 04:33 Oh and also: IF YOU HAVE A FAVORITE TANK NOT ON THE LIST, POST IT IN THIS THREAD, DON'T VOTE AND THEN SAY WHAT TANK YOU LIKE THE BEST, I'LL HAVE THE ONES NOT ON THE LIST ON THE FIRST POST IN THIS THREAD Deadstar_MRC April 17th, 2008, 06:04 It has to be the Hammerhead for me. Having that thing unload at me would be absolutely terrifying. So to make that less likely, I sided with the Tau... :ninja3:
But to be honest, I think most of the tanks on that list (and some that aren't!) could have got my vote. The Space Marine and Eldar tanks have always looked awesome. Dr. Paris April 17th, 2008, 06:14 Leman Russ all the way. It's been in the GW fluff forever, it's got a simple design that fits in surprisingly well to the sci-fi setting, all around good for everything. And let's face it, it's one of those tanks that you know will be there with the crew to the bitter end. Mastershake April 17th, 2008, 07:23 Leman Russ all the way. The only sad part about that is that the end tends to be both bitter and frequent with the russ *sigh* hoorah for AV14 being almost no real protection. Dekendo April 17th, 2008, 08:13 I have to go with the Fire Prism because it is one of the "nearly invincible eldar skimmers." but honestly, everything shoots missiles or lasers, leave it to the eldar to do something even cooler! "and now I incinerate your marines with a massive blast of light" ooooo shivers 8X Kantoken April 17th, 2008, 10:06 Am I really the only one who voted for the Landraider?
Ten bodies, protected by an armour value of 14 everywhere, and even after moving,
you may charge out of it! Shaabhekh April 17th, 2008, 13:00 Pred got my vote 8Y
Just 'cos its an awesome tank! but whats this tank GW were rumoured to be doing? somethign to fit in between the Pred and L.Raider? :? or have i jst gone mad? :0
Shaabhekh  Tsele April 18th, 2008, 16:43 Am I really the only one who voted for the Landraider?

Too many points on the field my friend... too many points. Very nice protection but too costy and a fire magnet! ;) orky/necron April 18th, 2008, 17:51 I only play necrons, and so I voted Monolith. It seems just as hard to kill as those pesk falcons and is such a great support unit. Jaden_Korr April 18th, 2008, 18:21 My vote goes for the falcon. Drop the right upgrades and weapons on it,and it's one of the best vehicle choices in the game Beardy_Wierdy April 18th, 2008, 23:01 The only sad part about that is that the end tends to be both bitter and frequent with the russ *sigh* hoorah for AV14 being almost no real protection.
Yeah, but its easy to make, a lot more advanced in fluff that it is ingame, and has a quite unneccessarily wide gun (110cm)
Also has that pretty sweet rhomboidal shape that makes WW1 tanks look so nice, has a power armour braking ordinance template and a trio of heavy machineguns.
Versatile, cheap and oh my is it effective.
In case anyone didnt guess I voted for the Leman Russ. Pika_Power April 18th, 2008, 23:23 This is sad. The whirlwind. The predator. Even the land raider to an extent.
All are based on one thing...
The Rhino! (Rather, the better one, the chaos rhino)
Cheap, efficent, LOS blocking, no paying for a coffin, This thing is everything you could ever want!
My vote goes toward the forgotten tank, the metal coffin, the shell,
THE CHAOS RHINO! guardimp April 18th, 2008, 23:34 the true best tank in the game is the Destroyer Tank Hunter. Dr. Paris April 18th, 2008, 23:52 The only sad part about that is that the end tends to be both bitter and frequent with the russ *sigh* hoorah for AV14 being almost no real protection.
I hardly ever see my Russes blow up unless it's the very end of a long and bloody battle (as it should be!). I had one get blown up first turn this week and I was floored, though they guy did roll three 6's back to back to back. I don't know where you get AV14 is no real protection. Maybe against a railgun, but I've seen my tanks hold their own against a hammerhead. I've only seen metla's and other such weapons get close to me a handful of times. kahos_angel April 19th, 2008, 00:11 Gotta love the falcon. With the right equipment you have a lot of high strength AP ignoring shots and still move 12 inches to boot. Through in holofields and you ensure that your opponent will have to throw what ever they can and most likely just shake the thing. Izzinatah April 19th, 2008, 01:00 It's gonna have to be Leman Russ for me. Tau stuff is pretty awesome looking, but don't have the same character as imperial tanks. Eldar tanks aren't quite as cool, although I dig the idea of a fire prism. Space marine stuff is alright, hell I use them, but they lack the Ordinance goodness of Leman Russes. Defilers are really, really cool - but I wouldn't class them as a tank (imo), and Monoliths aren't quite up there with IG. Why Leman Russ over Baneblade though? Baneblades are fantastic, but only in apocalypse - it'd be a clear win otherwise :)
In short, LRFTW.
EDIT: Waaait, you could vote Dreadnought?
Saaaaaaaaaaaaad :( Hive Fleet Hydra April 19th, 2008, 19:58 I can add an extra vote to the dread if you want by putting it on the first post. Then wen the poll is over, I'll add an extra vote to the dreadnought for the final tally. However, Leman Russ loses one vote. Izzinatah April 19th, 2008, 20:06 Nah, it's okay - dreadnoughts aren't really tanks imo anyway. soulman April 19th, 2008, 23:16 It has to be Exorcist!
It's beautiful model plus its very effective. Killing sometimes MC's in 1 turn, blowing up vehicles, instant killing whole unit of obliterators....
I know, sometimes it can do nothing or kill 1 ork per turn but I still love it:D Hive Fleet Hydra April 20th, 2008, 05:40 NOTICE: Woops, when i meant tank i meant VEHICLES. SORRY! (although you could kinda tell from all the non-tanks) The_Omnissiah April 20th, 2008, 05:53 I choose the Exorcist! Fear the pipe-organ of doooom! Muahahahaha!
-The God of all Machines Beardy_Wierdy April 22nd, 2008, 01:16 Pfft, when it fires all those missiles out of a MOUTH-organ...THEN I will be impressed. Pika_Power April 29th, 2008, 07:44 Again you forget the humble Rhino! | |
