I want to make this guy a "scout" on the daemonkin table, I know we don't get to pick their abilities but I'm making a squad and I want each one to have a model representing each roll of the daemonkin table.
Being a scout the only viable option I could come up that would look chaos-ish is if he has a sort of camouflage and not in the way that he is covered in trees or even painted in those camo styles like cargo pants, but I want him to sort of "reflect" light off him and thus I want him painted like a copy of the base hes standing on, I know its going to probably kill me with complications but I think it would best represent the scout ability...
Anyone have a good idea of how I could do this? should I just take a good look at the base and paint it onto his body or is there a technique for copying scenes from one piece onto another that even a n00b painter like me could use?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and rep'd! Stormchaser April 22nd, 2008, 02:33 Hmm.... So you want the skullls to reflect off his greaves? I'm not sure how to do that without it looking bad.
What I did with some Tau Stealth suits was to drybush their legs the same colour as the base getting moe concentrated the further down I went. omgitsduane April 22nd, 2008, 02:37 Yeah something like that would be a great idea, like a gradual absorbsion of his surroundings, because chameleons don't just transform in a second? Or do they? I'm not worried about how it looks, as long as people can look at it and sort of go "ah I see what he's done here" Stormchaser April 22nd, 2008, 02:41 The yellow greaves would make an excellent backing for that sort of thing, so you can see the colour gradually become more concentrated. With the raised leg, you could try having a bigger concentration of paint towards the front/area closest to the base, rather than towards the foot. omgitsduane April 22nd, 2008, 03:21 you've got the idea i want spot on, now to put it into action.. haha I hate painting so much. chrispcarter April 22nd, 2008, 13:40 I feel your pain!
Sounds like you have a good plan to be going on with, you could also try adding some of the sand(?) creeping up the legs to represent the texture of the armour changing as well, after all Daemon granted camouflage would probably be fairly good! Andusciassus April 22nd, 2008, 13:56 I think this model is not the best choice for what you intend to do. As he is so high up on the base there'll be nothing behind him to blend in to and I fear any attempt to cameleonize him could end up quite far from how you intend it.
You are a skilled converter though so why no just make a new one? You could easily blend a model with a brick wall (on a scenic base of course)for example, so it looks as if he is emerging from it. Or have something like a stone or pile of skulls behind him so it becomes like that Tau-suit.
There is also the Tau-suits that are phasing into a pattern from their original suit colours with a crakling line of energy-field-ish effect. Above the blue crakling line they are original and below they are camofluaged. omgitsduane April 22nd, 2008, 14:02 Any chance the mighty god-like andu could find me pictures of what you are talking about, The only reason I don't want to make a new one is that I don't have any more marine legs or chest pieces, even the arms I'm running out of because of the amount of gun swap and conversions I've done.
I know the painting would be hard... I was thinking of maybe getting a small mirror at the back of it and reflecting it up to see where it would all go, I do agree its probably way above my skill level, but as I said I just don't have the parts.
I do like the brick wall idea, and that I guess would be fairly simple to do... but just finding the right object for him to emerge from would be the difficult part I think. Andusciassus April 22nd, 2008, 14:12 You could build a wall from plasticard/cardboard/whatever really, and then cover it in a thin layer of GS,make it look like bricks and then blend him into it.
I can't seem to find the pics now, but I'll see what I can do once I have a bit more spare time. Hmm...it might have been in a WD? omgitsduane April 23rd, 2008, 16:26 I hope you can find them, I think I get the idea though, sort of like a phase out where they don't just click on and off, its a short process that looks like electricity through them. chrispcarter April 23rd, 2008, 17:46 Like this on from GrahamGilchrist on CMON?:

I have also seen a stunning one in WD where the stealth suit had a wall behind it complete with Imperial stylings and the suit was painted to look exactly like it was blending in. stayscrunchyinmilk April 24th, 2008, 00:12 I saw a armourcast phantom titan once that'd been sprayed in colour changing metallic car paint - as you walked around it it shimmered in different colours. you could do that for the look - maybe getting a more silvery colour to try to reflect the surroundings more (It was about £ 30 per can mind) | |
