I have a High Elf Army I want to start painting. I have a can or chaos black and skull white primer, but was wondering what would be best for painting high units with. My colour scheme will be reds, golds, and greens. Would it be best to prime with white and apply a coat of black to the areas like the chainmail so I have a nice highlight? I know white works better with brighter colours like red. Any help would be great.

Since you want bright colors, since they are High Elves, I would go with the white primer... Now for the chainmail I would base the area black and then start the painting... ;)

will the normal choas black paint be good or would the new foundation paints be best?

I think the Foundation range doesn't have black, but maybe I'm wrong here... But the old classic black will do the trick...

Prime with gray spray. I don't see why people think you must stick with either black or white. With gray you can paint dark right away, paint bright colors well (especially if you apply a quick skull white drybrush). Don't settle for less ;Y

I use grey on everything that isn't going to be basecoated in black.
