My technique:

(1) Prime with Chaos Black (because exoskeleton for some other units is black)
(2) Paint on base coat of Liche Purple on the sprues, and let it dry
(3) Mix up a wash of 2:1 Liche Purple and Chaos Black, and mix that with water and Future Floor Finish
(4) Snip pieces off the sprues and dip into the wash
(5) Re-distribute wash with a brush into the cracks if necessary, and let that dry
(6) Lightly dry brush on Tentacle Pink for the highlight shading
(7) Paint the teeth and claws with Graveyard Earth, then add Bleached Bone to the tips
(8) Paint the tongue with Tentacle Pink
(9) Paint the eyes with Scorpion Green

That's it !

Feedback is welcome.

They look really nice, it's a great use of a wash! However, more colors would have been nice (i.e. paint the skin a different color than the armor).

The figures are neat and clean. If feeling adventurous I would suggest maybe taking and adding other colors to the figure to offset the purple...

The thing that stands out the most for me is the mold lines. I would prep the figures a bit more and take the time to remove the mold lines. With plastic this is very easy. Just take an x-acto blade and scrape (away from you) the lines until the are gone. A sharp blade works the best. Make sure you do this lightly otherwise you risk gouging the plastic. metal models can be filed.

Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

-Mike

I'd like to mirror the above comments and add don't forget to base.

Thanks guys !

To answer the questions:

cooliox: Thanks ! The thing about the new Genestealers is that they LOOK like they're supposed to have a carapace, but they actually don't... theres no clear area where it beings and ends... there's no "lip" for an armor plate near their backside. I've seen other 'Stealers painted in this way for the same reason AFAIK...

slorak: Thanks ! On all of my other pieces I have chaos black armor plates drybrushed with Codex Grey to offset the color... also I was using a 2:1 mix of tentacle purple and codex grey for the joints, but when you wash it, you don't really see it anymore ! I'm considering a lighter wash...

Jon Quixote: Yes, my buddy and I are buying basing supplies soon and we'll do a base-a-thon... I'll repost at that point :)

Cool, I look forward to it.

I find that if the drybrushing looks too *drybrushed* then a very dilute wash can just take the edge off. I'm not saying that yours is, but in case you do accidently do it.

Oh, I do think my drybrushing looks too drybrushed :)

I was going to try exactly that, I'm glad you could confirm my hypothesis on that !

Thanks !
