I am new to tabletop gaming and I would love to start a Dwarf Army but my funds are a bit limited. Therefore, I cannot afford to make to many mistakes when building an army. I was hoping that a dwarf player could help me get a good base list started.

I do have a few models to start with. I have purchased BFSP and a Dwarf Battalion box set. I was given 10 slayers with a command pack. I have a unit of very old Bugman Ranger’s (18 models including Bugman and command) that I bought long ago for an RPG I used to play.

That gives me...
1 Bugman
1 Thane
1 Dragon Slayer
10 Warriors including full command
24 Warriors / Longbeards
10 Thunderers
16 Thunderers / Quarrellers
18 Quarrellers / Rangers including full command
13 Slayers including full command
8 Miners including full command
1 Cannon
1 Cannon / Organ Gun

I was going to start with a 1000pt list so I could get a feel for the game and for Dwarves. As I play more I plan on swapping some of the other models I have into my list or expanding the list 1500pts to get a better sense of how they operate. I can buy a few more models but if I spend too much, me wife may set me beard on fire.

This is what I have come up with so far...
General - Thane - Hero - 117pts.
Rune of Stone
Master Rune of Swiftness
Rune of Cleave

BSB - Thane - Hero - 135pts.
Master Rune of Gromril
Rune of Cleave

19 Longbeards - Core - 291pts
Full Command
Great Weapons & Shields
(General Accompanies)

19 Warriors - Core - 196pts
Full Command
Shields
(BSB Accompanies)

10 Quarrellers - Core - 145pts
Musician
Great Weapons & Shields

Organ Gun - Rare - 120pts

Total: 1004Pts

I am a bit over on points and not sure if this is a big issue. I am not sure what to strip out to get under 1000pts. I was thinking of dropping the Rune of Cleave on the BSB and giving him a Rune of Iron.

With this list I will only have to Buy a Thane and a few more warriors(4). Or, if it is legal to use some of the old Bugman models. The Bugman box set I have has a great standard bearer who could become my BSB and i was thinking of using 4 of the ranger models for the missing warriors - they carry a hand weapon and shield and have a crossbow strapped to there backs.

Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Not bad at all actually. In 1000pt games, organ guns are ridiculously good and the quarrelers can be used to thin out the enemy or protect a flank

One suggestion is that since you lack mobility, a MR of Challenge on one of your thanes would allow you to force an element of the enemy to engage your ranked infantry, thus maximizing your strengths.

Also, since longbeards with GW are actually more expensive than hammerers and are less tough (stubborn vs panic). If you have the old longbeards models they can easily pass off as hammerers due to their GW.

Cheers

advantage LB have over Quarallers is their effect on others. giving everyone within 6" rerolls on panic is very very nice.

also why give your LB shields? their either going to use their GW or HW/Shield, can't use both. might help when walking forward through rivers of ranged fire but could use the points elsware.

the thing i found with dwarfs is we can never field enough units for my taste. for 1000 points i tend to run

1 Thane. GW, Kragg the grim, Cleaving, snorri and a stone.

15 Warriors with shields(fc)
15 warriors with GW(fc)
10 thunderers
5 miners
grudge(rune of acc)
cannon(engineer)
organ

i am very shooty with my dwarves (as you can see) many people say why 5 miners? i reply cause i needed point's. well that's changed now, those 5 miners have won more games for me then any other model. having them show up behind my enemey's war machines is great or coming in to block a charge on a war machine has helped me greatly.

Hi, Dabbler. I'm moving this to the army list section, but I'll leave a redirect for a few days so that a few more people will see it.
