View Full Version : Suggestion Rep Rewards timk1111 May 11th, 2008, 10:39 Gday,
I've been thinking, as I stare at my Daemon army lists (the only ones no-one has replied to), how could we get people more involved in this kind of thing, and more willing to help out and post up their thoughts.
I was thinking of a modified Rep system, where that if you got enough Rep in a particular Forum (for example, Daemon army lists) then you got a badge for it, like 'Daemon Verteran Level 1'. Then, when you get more rep in that forum, you get 'Daemon Veteran Level 2' and so forth.
This is just one idea, but what I'm thinking is rewarding people more for participating in the forum. Maybe this aint the best way to do it, but you know where I'm going with this....
Tim Phoenix May 11th, 2008, 11:16 Thats a great idea. Say for every 20pts of rep you get within a certain forum, you get a badge (different symbol for each forum?) and then a further 20pts progresses it another level, Lv10 being the master rank say.
Great idea, possibly a little complicated to implement? Not sure, knowing nothing about programming or whatever lol. timk1111 May 11th, 2008, 11:31 I wouldn't set the bar that low. Some people around here have huge amount of rep power, easily granting several levels. 100 per level wouldn't be unrealistic, then 150 for the next level, and so on. To get to the max, say 10 as you suggested, I think it should ake quite some time, so you should ALWAYS have something to work towards. This is just my thoughts however....
Another thing I thought of, is each post you condtribute in that forum could be worth 1 point of 'rep' towards this badge. This way, you can work towards it, without halving to cross your fingers and hope someone reps you. Using Rep helps though, because it should also increase the quality of the post, and reduce double posting and spamming (something the mods should be onto anyway...)
As for the programing, I'm thinking it would be like how Enhanced was. After a certain amount of rep, forum participation etc, you got the badge. However, like you, I don't know much about the progaming.
Tim omgitsduane May 11th, 2008, 11:44 Yeah the idea I like also, not that I'll get anything for that sort of stuff because I'm not helpful at all in the fluff or maintaining of armies. Blackhat May 11th, 2008, 11:53 This is a good idea, but the current rep system wont allow this unless we re-program the whole thing. Something that would require alot of work, but there is a similar way by using the old award hack timk1111 May 11th, 2008, 11:54 Yeah the idea I like also, not that I'll get anything for that sort of stuff because I'm not helpful at all in the fluff or maintaining of armies.
Surely there's a forum you're mostly active in though? It could be any sub forum, like the Painting forum if that was your thing. You could get a badge 'Painting Veteran level 1' and so on.
But the idea is get more posts, and of quality if possible, not just reward the people currently doing it. You may not get a bsdge now, but maybe this way you (or anybody, not picking on you !) could strive to be more helpful, and get more people posting.
Thanks for the feedback on this one so far, really appreciate it.
Now I just have to wait for Admin or Mods to shoot me down in flames! :P
Tim
EDIT: Oh Blacky! You made it! Hmm, shame it would require a heap of work....guess we'll have to let you figure this one out, and give us the yay or nay later on....
Of course, if there was another way to get the badges, and reward people....well, i can't think of one right now, but someone else may...
Tim Stonehambey May 11th, 2008, 12:13 How about sig images? timk1111 May 11th, 2008, 12:25 How about sig images?
Thats not bad, only I was worried about people just using copy/paste, unless there was a way to stop this. Thats why I thought LO Badges would do better, bacause no-one can just add them in, they'de have to earnt...
It's just a question of how to earn them....maybe Mods could hand the badges out, if they notice someone doing a great job or something.....but then it's opinion based. How DID the old enchanced thing work anyway!? Couldn't it work something like that?
Have to keep working at it guys!
BTW, seems like I'm gunning for 'suggestion veteran level 1', ey? ;) *joke, dont kill me!*

Lol... *kills Tim* :P
Hmm.. suggestion based... is there any way that voting threads can be edited?
If so, maybe something along the lines of a stickied poll thread in each forum, and people vote on all the people who they thing are helpful in that thread.
This would involve a really open voting thread though, such that you could vote, enter the vote, and then be able to go back and vote again if necessary (though not for the same person)
Just an idea.. anyone care to add to that? BlackSheep May 15th, 2008, 02:27 I really like the idea, tim. It would also help in giving people ideas on who to go to when they are asking questions. Perhaps this could be done using a usergroup type structure? Then the ranks could be contained within the usergroup and could possibly reduce the amount of programming needed--or at least make it a bit easier. cooliox May 15th, 2008, 04:46 I could easily GIMP the badges, check out my photobucket for some of my work (assaultmaster). I've made site banners and numerous sigs. (although, I'm hoping the badges will be implemented like user groups, i.e. under the avatar)
I'll go ahead and get started on the conceptual badges, just give me the green light (and preferred size) and I'll start actually making them.
What I was thinking about was making the titles have a roman numeral (1-10 for the rank) and then the icon. Like "IV Tau", etc.
RACE -- ICON
Space Marines -- Ultramarine helmet
Tau -- Firewarrior helmet
Necron -- Necron head
Tyranid -- Gaunt head
IG -- Commissar head
Sisters of Battle -- (traditional, white-haired) SoB head
Chaos Space Marines -- CSM helmet
Ork -- Ork head
Eldar -- eldar helmet
Dark Eldar -- DE helmet
Chaos Dæmons -- ???
[open for suggestions] timk1111 May 15th, 2008, 09:55 Wow, thanks to everyone for their input so far!
User groups sound like an interesting way to do it. Have to think a little more on that. I mean, can't anyone just join a usergroup if they wish?
Guess we'll have to wait on Blackhat to see what's possible.
Tim Stonehambey May 15th, 2008, 09:56 You can make usergroups invite only, but who would decide who is in...:? timk1111 May 15th, 2008, 12:14 Hmm, well, there would have to be a user group for each forum I think, so there would have to be a designated 'Leader' up each user group. For example, there could be a 'Chaos Daemons Veterens' group, the 'Painting Veterans' group, and so forth.
That would work really well, except for a few things:
1) If the Leader left the forum, for whatever reason, a new one would have to designated, and I'm sure how that works.....can the 'invite only' priviledges be transfered to someone else?
2) This will make it Sig based. I dont mind where the Badge is, but in the sig, it can be Copy/Pasted, and the Sigs these days dont allow for a whole lot of room. Something like 150 characters, and 2kb? If many people here where to edit their sig (like i did by accident), it would reduce whatever they have down to the new limitations (im fairly sure they're recent..). Phoenix is a good example. He coldcn't have his current sig...tipping that aint 2kb!
3) Lots of work for the leaders, and lots of different Leaders putting in different amounts of work will casue this to become inconsistant between different areas.
Hmmm...shame I dont know how all this jazz works...hence my continuous calling to Blackhat :D
Tim Phoenix May 15th, 2008, 12:35 Huh, whats up with my Sig now?? I like it... Arky made it :) timk1111 May 15th, 2008, 12:47 Huh, whats up with my Sig now?? I like it... Arky made it :)
Nothing at all, but if were to try and change itm you'd be limited to a 2kb sig.... cooliox May 15th, 2008, 18:05 Nothing at all, but if were to try and change itm you'd be limited to a 2kb sig....
A usergroup title wouldn't go in your sig. In your case, it would go right under your "veteran" title.
So there's no file-size limit timk1111 May 15th, 2008, 20:03 A usergroup title wouldn't go in your sig. In your case, it would go right under your "veteran" title.

Can user group titles do that? is that what you 'Authors' is then? Phoenix May 15th, 2008, 20:23 Can user group titles do that? is that what you 'Authors' is then?
Yes, same with Mod and LO Mag and Vet that I have. With lots of Army based titles flying around it may make it a bit cluttered though.. possibly limit it to one 40K and 1 Fantasy per person. When you are accepted to join the group (having proven yourself under atleast one army, and have proof/been recognised for this) you can choose a badge for each (or just one if you like). Then Edit options would be nice incase you ever want to change. timk1111 May 15th, 2008, 20:59 Yeah, limit it for sure.........
Hmmmm, so this is sounding more and more possible unsing user groups...not bad. How could the extra levels work though? Can you have multiple badges in one group?
I'd still like to wait on Blackhat, to give us am idea of whether it can be built into LO at all....
