Ok... is it only my impression or with the 5th edition assault morale rules (Ld modified by difference in wounds done) the classic Kroot army is ready for the bin?

Or does someone already have some idea in mind to make them still a little competitive (done a great tourney with them last sunday! I'll send in a BR asap!)

I'm a bit behind the power curve on the rumours, since I tend to ignore something until its a reality - most especially whenever GW is involved! It would help, therefore, if you could expand on what the rumoured assault rules are, since I can't begin to get my aging head round this problem on the basis of the information given thus far.

These are not rumors: GW Italy has had a road show to present the new BBB.

After an assault the losing side will have to test as usual with -1 for being under 50% and a further -1 for each wound the winning side scored more than the losing side.

I.e. If unit A beats unit B 10 kills to 7, the losing side will have to roll for morale with a -3 to Ld.

Considering that Kroot usually lose combats due to wounds inflicted (darn T3 and 6+ armor!) the most common tactic of banging them in first turn and having them block combat (with large numbers and Ld 8 it's quite easy) until the rest of the army can arrive will be nullified as the blocking unit will most probibally flee due to losing by wounds, even though points wise they probibally hit harder (8pts a kroot!)

Wow thats a very harsh rule imo. What about outnumber? If they have a similar modifyer due to squad size this could off set the Kroots constant casualty rate because much of the time we have more guys than the enemy :)

However ive never used my Kroot as a Primary assault force anyway, ill always bunker down in cover and shoot the hell outta the enemy with the kroot rifles with my fast units (trackers, hounds) running flanks to slow their assault units and go tank hunting. Never failed to cause the enemy a world of hurt n have almost never had a total massacare done against me (other than against nidzilla, Blood angel uber death company assault force and noise marines with a lash prince!)

I just think we need to wait for the rules to come out so we can work on some new tactics :D Tis gonna be fun ;)

I mused a tad about this whole matter this night and realised I have completely forgot about the new Infiltration rules!

Now either you infiltrate 18-12" as usual, or you can keep you units in reserve and have them pop in from a random short-side of the table, effectively netting you a first turn charge if the enemy isn't that careful.

Kroot might not be done for yet!

First turn assaulters will be smaller units not needing to bog up the enemy as much as before, while needing to inflict more casualties to those sustained and more units mean more eviscerators! After that the rest of the army can simply come in through reserves and roll on the table from the sides, effectively flanking the enemy and causing great problems...

Just have to see how official they will be... =D

One good thing or bad thing the way you look at it, is that there is no more consolidation move after combat. Now you just sit out in the open to get shot at. It helps kroot because most of the time they dont kill the entire unit in the first turn, but it hurts that many times after winning combat, i consolidate into another unit to avoid getting shot.
