Commissar_Malevich July 5th, 2008, 01:58 Are you sure? I could have sworn in some of the preview pictures on this sight there is an unpainted plastic model in plain view. Leech July 5th, 2008, 02:21 Are you sure? I could have sworn in some of the preview pictures on this sight there is an unpainted plastic model in plain view. Chances are that it is metal. Often they show resin mock-ups of models that are in production or aren't released yet. I remember seeing pictures of the Tyranid Hive tyrant before it was released and I though it was going o be plastic like the Carnifex. However it turned out it is metal because I saw a early pic of some resin test cast or something. Typically they don't do big monster types in plastic unless they will sell loads of them. Such as the plastic Dragon or giant that can be easily used by many armies or the Tyranid Carnifex which is only for Tyranids but the rules allow loads to be used. The Hydra is a Dark Elf only critter and a rare choice so I imagine it will be metal. Like the Black coach and Corpse cart for Vampires. The Cart is less important than the Coach but the Cart is plastic because much more of them can be used. Of course I may be wrong, does anybody have any pictures of the new Hydra. I can't find any close ups and I like the Hydra. Commissar_Malevich July 5th, 2008, 05:30 Ok yeah, its resin. Well I think since I own a number of Krieg soldiers. http://warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40877&d=1213454239 nillic July 5th, 2008, 07:39 well according to GW's dark elf preview website it is an all metal model, as is the supreme sorceress on cold one, the new character model with the kraken mask, and the new dread lord. Those 4 were advertises specifically as the new metal models coming out for dark elves. warhammer madman July 5th, 2008, 08:28 if the new hydra is metal no one will bye it because the old one looks nicer... Phoenix July 6th, 2008, 00:29 I went in to my local store earlier today, and while the manager was giving me the ''buy 5th ed, its awesome'' speech i took the topic off into the realm of fantasy. The look on his face when i told him that the hydra looks like a Greyhound was unmissable :D And hearing him try to defend it afterwards, despite the fact i could tell he agreed, was even better lol. Nothing to do with the model, but i just wanted to put that little story somewhere :) nillic July 6th, 2008, 04:28 I don't understand everyone hating on it so much, I think it looks great! so much better than the current one with the heads looking all awkward. and that skinny look reminds me of the displacer beast from D&D 3.5. It could come in handy for some chaos conversions. Leech July 6th, 2008, 04:59 I don't understand everyone hating on it so much, I think it looks great! so much better than the current one with the heads looking all awkward. I agree, I think it looks way better than the old one. I found the old one has the problem that it is verycartoony looking. The teeth and general spikyness of it reminds me of something like an old plastic dinosaur toy and not an expensive model. The new one seems to look much more like the pictures that I have seen drawn of the Hydra in the Dark Elf book. It has a good flow of movement to it and it's heads seem to work with eash other and not simply be all over the pace like it's drunk. warhammer madman July 6th, 2008, 08:40 the new one looks like it has 4 dragon heads... GW are making every mini that is a reptile look like a dragon :freaked-out: other than the cold ones wich look awsome! the problem is GW can get dragons right but not any other reptile like creture hydras i dont think are even related to dragons???? as a dragon head the hydra looks sweet but there is no orriginallity itsonly savinggrace is that is plastic (but thats not even happening now!!!). CGLover July 6th, 2008, 10:20 GW can get dragons right LOL all gw dragons I have seen look like angry worms with wings. They REALLY suck at them.. As for the Hydra ,it looks very nice now ,alot better than the old hydra :) Jürgen Mutant July 6th, 2008, 11:46 LOL all gw dragons I have seen look like angry worms with wings. They REALLY suck at them.. As for the Hydra ,it looks very nice now ,alot better than the old hydra :) Couldn't have put it better myself, bro. I have always hated the GW dragons with their far too enlongated bodies and weird, unnatural pose. As for the old hydra, it looked like something a kindergarden kid had spent 15 minutes putting together using play dough. It is completely beyond my scope how anyone could possibly like the dragon or the old hydra more than the new hydra. But hey, we're all different. There are only two things I don't like about the look of the new model: I think the body is to small and weak looking compared to the heads, but I can live with that. I guess in a way that makes it look more Dark Elfy. The other thing is that it only has five heads. Read some greek mythology GW; hydras are supposed to have SEVEN heads! But still, it has two more heads than the previous one, so I guess they'll get it right next time. As for the cold ones, they look better than ever, except that their tails still look like sausages. Once GW start making cold ones with real tails, I'm buying a dark elf army! Lord of Dawn July 8th, 2008, 19:29 i personnaly like the new hydra, it is a much better posture, and it looks like a hydra should, in my oppinion, ( maybe twice as big, but that wont happen).as for GW making dragon models, yes, most of their dragon models have been snakes with wings that look like fell beaset more that dragons, but look at some of their latest dragons, the HE dragon, less spindley and a great pose, still a bit skinny, but better, also, look at the LM carnasour, that thing is awesome, i think all of their dragons should be bigger versions of that with wings. All im getting at is that GW is abandoning the dragons that were curled up snakes with massive feet and heads, and has moved on to a better concept, although not totally perfected in my mind, another example is the LOTR dragon, not spindly at all, just to small for my liking and a little to wide around the belly. And as for the Hydra, its heads are supposed to be like a snake with a dragons head, just look at other fantasy art or movies, it fits. Oh, and what the hell is that cool thing behind the hydra in that link, i want one now |
