View Full Version : veteran sergeant experimental scheme *PICS* starhawks July 9th, 2008, 04:53 here is a repaint of my veteran sergeant, i really like the scheme and i know many of you will not, but i vowed to myself i wouldn't be swayed by others opinions...i really love space marines, i fell in love with not only the miniatures, but the fluff the instant i saw them but the only thing holding me back from them was the overwhelming amount of people who play them, so i wanted a scheme that set mine apart, and here it is...and keep in mind this was just a test subject it will look a lot cleaner on newer not previously painted plastic models o and i know there is some green left on there i touched it up

I once tried painting marines in a similar scheme but after a few models I got over it and painted them something else. 4theEmperor! July 9th, 2008, 05:47 I love the weathered look you got on the chainsword. I just painted this same model as one of my Veteran Assault Blood Angels. I love the pose and all the purity seals and the cloth on the shoulder. Nicely done!! Wraith July 9th, 2008, 10:02 Okay... So pardon my ignorance here, but who's complaining? All I'm seeing is a Marine in a rather interesting pale blue scheme, and a well done paintjob, at that.
He looks great! It's a very noticeable colour scheme, ought to be very striking on the tabletop - I'm looking forward to pics of the newer models when they're done! st.germaine July 9th, 2008, 15:47 Not complaining, I rather like the look of him. It's a shade of blue that isn't often seen on marines so it should stand out. For me however it does feel rather reminiscent of the bluer renditions of Space Wolves. That would be my only "knock" on him.
Being the DIY geek that I am, I have to ask for more about them? What's their name? What's their chapter symbol? What codex (or traits, while they last) are you using with them? starhawks July 9th, 2008, 17:58 the name for them is the starhawks, their symbol is a crescent moon type shape, and thats about it so far, i have yet to work out the rest of the fluff RespectUrElders July 10th, 2008, 21:47 You did a great job creating the slightly corroded weapons; they really feel ancient, as though they've been passed down from marine to marine over the centuries (which is especially fitting for the plasma pistol.) It stands out as a colour scheme as well, you don't see too many marine chapters come even close to that. What's more though it looks very nice on a single models, I'd imagine it would look even better on an entire squad.
One small thing, though the highlights are quite well done I think that the Space Wolves Grey(?) or whatever the lightest grey-blue is might pop out a bit too much. You might want to make a slightly more subtle transition unless you're going for that bright highlight. In which case ignore my ramblings.
Great job on the snow as well. Though I haven't created snow bases before I hear they're a real hassle to make look good, and yours look impeccable,
-Mike Canew July 10th, 2008, 22:09 It's an unusual scheme, and that's not a bad thing. Nicely highlighted. The armour color works well, mostly because it's set off very nicely by the brassy, coppery metals. Nice choice there. Overall, it has a "chalky," "dusty" look that reminds me of the Deathwing. I've always been a fan of color schemes like that, more muted and battle-hardened, as compared to the bright-and-shiny looks that are the mainstream. It's a tough style to pull off, and you've done it well.
More! NTFH July 11th, 2008, 04:25 What is the recipie for the light blue you use? is it mix or a single colour or is it layerd? starhawks July 11th, 2008, 05:08 its just watered down ice blue...it only takes about one to two coats to thoroughly cover | |
