Hey all - I recently started 40k and chose to play Orks... I painted my first mini... it still has some things to paint, but I wanted to get a general idea of how my paint job is coming along so far.

Any C+C welcome as I would like to better myself in painting!

Now.. like I mentioned earlier, I know I have some stuff that I didnt paint (the handle on the choppa, highlights on the wrist band, and the base), but please toss me some ideas on how I'm doing.. good or bad!

For your first mini that is pretty dang good. Good drybrushing and inking.

Just clean up those mold lines first next time!
It only takes about half an hour to do a whole set of orks but it makes them look so much more fantastic!

EDIT: also welcome to the orks! one of the more interesting 40k races and with a lighter side thats missing in such a grim world!

I Like the detailing on the Big Choppa

see if you can get some skulls or spare bits (heads, arms, and legs).

Tomb King's bits can work if you want, but a few skulls on the belt or base can be fun!

Indeed, nicely done for a first model. I quite like the small amount of yellow you used as well; it stands out without being dominating. The whole model looks surprisingly clean, which is impressive as drybrushing can make a model look a little dirty sometimes.

In response to your question in the other thread on whether it has enough yellow or not:

Personally, I would add more yellow, but when you say it is a Bad Moon it is one - after all you're the one coming up with the concept and you need to like it. I like your painting scheme, but if I were in your situation I would also do the boots in a yellow color. This would display a "we're so filthy rich we go on the battlefield always with fresh new boots". :D

Thanks for the feedback everyone. As this is a test model - I wanted to see if I was moving in the right direction.

As far as the mold lines go.. I didn't even see them while I was painting! The camera brings those out big time! It almost makes me sick seeing them. I don't know if I didnt see them while I was painted because I was excited about painting my first Ork, or if I was just half asleep.

Enjoi - as I mentioned before, this is still a WIP.. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the base. The Tomb Kings stuff sounds good. That works out well, since I play WHFB Tomb Kings and have TONS of bits from them left over. I also have some warriors of chaos bits, chaos marauder bits, chaos spawn, etc... I want to make some sort of uniform styling for the bases. A buddy of mine had an idea where he broke up CD cases and used those to style the bases.

As far as the yellow goes.. I purposely barely put any yellow on this mini as the boyz are pretty much the lowest in ranks as far as Orks go (minus gretchins) so I did not want them to stand out more so than the elites, and hq. As the fluff states, "even the lowliest Bad Moon ork has wealth" or something along those lines.. so I wanted to make it as if they just had enough wealth to show they were part of the Bad Moonz.

I do appreciate everyone's feedback. Hopefully I have enough time this weekend to paint a few more and get 'em posted up!
