Wow, that's impressive!

However, I have troubles telling the Blood Angels' enemies in the dark - are those Eldar or Dark Eldar?

Nice!

BTW those would be Eldar. Banshees, Warp Spiders, Rangers, Farseer maybe?

Good times.

Awesome trailer, though my only criticism is that the Warp Spider Exarch's deathspinners seemed to fire some kind of plasma balls rather than the shredding mono-filament wire expected in the fluff.... But I'm just being pedantic :-)

More than that, I thought his dying was unrealistic too.

He should have at least shouted out:

"My artist's face!" or

"My hair cut!"

or something befitting of his hanky wielding ways.

Hawtness!
When is this being released? I may need to start buying more of my new computer parts.

Now, my current set up is a little...old. Was I supposed to see something there at the end when the view shifted up to the Moon? Like, Chaos, Nids, or Necrons making Planetfall?

zomg can't wait for this. I loved DoW (though I never got the expansions...computer couldn't hardly run them :() Makes me want to go play DoW again!

Given its red colour, I think a lot of people are saying either chaos or nids. My money is on nids though, given that a lot of people have been wanting them for quite some time.

As for a release date, I think is still TBA. But not sure.

Oh man, that was just plain sweet.

Bonus points on actually making Marines 8-10 feet tall though. I think that's the first time I've seen them represented as such, even in the Dawn of War series.

Edit: One should also not miss out on the thirty seconds or so of montage'd gameplay footage.

Wow to kill that farseer that sergeant must have got 3 hits, 3 wounds and the farseer failed all its invunerables.

I think it must be tyranids because don't chaos and necrons just kind of appear.

Hoping for 'Nids, coulda been Chaos I guess.

I like how the space marines were large, but their movements were a lot clunkier than I imagine space marines moving.

Other than that, Awesome preview.

brunes07
July 16th, 2008, 15:38
It's nids. Gotta be. I might only have a hunch, but looking at the skies in the last scene, it reminds me of what i think a tyranid invasion would look like - covering the entire night sky. Look at the clear moon in the first scene, then compare it to the hardly visible one in the last - i assume only a nid invasion would move so fast.

Process of elimination - the farseer (?) warned the sergeant about them, which means that they are a dark, evil + powerful force - im thinking necrons, chaos or nids. Necrons wouldn't attack from the sky, and chaos have already been showcased, so that leaves tyranids.

Unless i have fallen subject to the clever use of marketing + teasers, and this is totally wrong...

Btw I really like the fights, the sergeant is exactly what i thought one would seem like, cold, stubborn + powerful enough to take on a farseer! The warp spider was pretty neat too. It sucks though as in game terms, a lot of those shots would be saved by armour, none of the cool surprise-shruiken-shots-to-the-face. Ah well. All in all, pretty cool preview.

Smoked banshee, anyone?

Quick
July 16th, 2008, 16:25
It is the Tyranids. One of the reasons they were not included in DoW1 was the difficulty in pathing as many Tyranids as the game would require. Tyranids come in large groups and that requires a more robust engine.

The Trailer was sweet, though. The Farseer did not look Eldar-ish to me, though. I always had them appearing more elfin, in my mind's eye.

chandrila
July 16th, 2008, 16:54
It was awesome to see them in action, but I do feel that fluff-wise it was a bit poor - I mean, what do you think would happen on the tabletop 9 times out of 10 if a Howling Banshee squad accompanied by a Farseer attacked a standard SM Tactical squad? A Sergeant really shouldn't be able to dispatch a Farseer that easily and the Howling Banshee masks, whilst making the right noise, didn't seem to have any effect on the Space Marines whatsoever. Plus, they're meant to be armed with power weapons so that SM armour ought to present no real resistance.... :-P Plus, I really don't like the semi-metallic voices they've given the Eldar - it should be a sing-song melodic voice, not some kind of synthesiser....

But it was still very cool :-D

And yes, I'd agree that those were 'Nids in the sky - it looked like an enormous insect swarm covering the sky, which is exactly how I'd envisage it.

Edit: Hmmm, well I guess there was a Dreadnought and a couple of Assault Marines in support, but still - should've been a convincing Eldar victory ;-)

Does anyone else think the eldar do kind of terribly in this battle? i mean, come on, they should have owned the marines hands down. LAMO

I am going to go with she was a little busy with whatever psychic trick she was attempting to take cover. Besides being a Farseer she may have "seen" that it was at that place and time she would die doing something to save many more Eldar lives.

As for the Eldars poor showing. Chock that up to bad dice rolls, really low numbers and the Marines being allowed to win an opening for once.

MVBrandt
July 17th, 2008, 00:39
All hints are at a system-wide defensive of an impending threat ... this fits the scope of a Tyranid invasion nicely, especially since whatever race you were playing would be cut off from help once arrived due to the Shadow.

Well.... Tabletop terms it was ~1 tac squad + 1 dread + 5ish assault marines. Tac squad had a HB, dunno bout 2nd weap. Eldar had 5ish banshees, a single warp spider (exarch) a single ranger and a farseer. I do believe that tabletop, the marines wouldve completely curbstomped the eldar. HOWEVER, i will sa that, even in lore, I do not believe that a tac serg couldve killed a farseer, unless he snuck up on here (which is, more or less, impossible) and sworded her. Although it did look cool.

Question: I think we all realize that, both lore and tabletop, the only real difference between a sergeant and a line trooper is just experience, and maybe a different weap. I mean, theres no genetic or bionical difference (usually). So, can anyone tell me how a marine, in FULL battle armor, got zapped by the farseer, but the sergeant, with no helmet on, took 3ish seconds of lightning to the face and wasnt even scarred or burned, much less dead? (Im just wondering, not trying to ruin it or anthing, I should congratulate them for an awesome intro.)

Okay G-Dub, you have the Characters, you have the Tech, you just made a preview,

NOW WHERE'S MY G'DANG MOVIE?!

I usually find myself saying "they can't do a movie, they never will do a movie", but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't do a movie! Right now, I'll settle for a DVD release in the next Box Set, just a basic one to get you a feel for what you are about to start doing on the tabletop.

Anyhow, I guess the PC will get all the lovin' for a little while, I want this game to run smooth as an Eldar's backside.

Very cool, looked really awesome
That means the 4 races are now confirmed as Blood Ravens Space Marines, Orks, Eldar and the Tyranids.
Poor Chaos didn't make the cut but that just means they can put more effort into making a good chos army for expansion pack to face off against guard.

Farseer couldn't beat the Sgt cos they were in combat and Sgt charged so he had 4 attacks, more than enough to paste an Eldar given that the farseer woud have lost the combat, failed the morale check and was killed by sweeping advance...
Makes perfect sense.

Until it's confirmed I don't believe for a second that the 4th race is 'Nids. That's just wishful thinking as far as I'm concerned.

Look at the shape of the cloud at the end of the video. The position of the moon inside it makes it look like an eye. Which makes me think eye of terror/eye of Tzeench (whatever, chaos seems to love its eyes, so meh).

Additionally, they KNOW DoW2 will sell, whether or not 'Nids are in it. All they need to do is release the game, then mention Nids will be in an expansion pack at some point, and all the people that have been going mental for them will whip themselves up into a fervour over it. The marketing may as well just be "olol this expansion is nids" and it'd sell like hot cakes.

That, and I'm sick to death of hearing "they can't afford not to put 'Nids in" or "It must be 'Nids because they weren't in the first game".

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the 'Nids - Seeing a carnifex stomping around turning those pansy Eldar into red jelly has been something I've anticipated for a long time. But Chaos seems a safer bet. And with all the hype around Tyranids EVER entering into the series, it seems like too big a cash cow to simply pass up.

I didn't say the engine couldn't handle Nids (Or that they wouldn't be in the game at all, as that is just a bad idea). Just that I highly doubt they will be in the initial release, since they will be an amazing way to make profits with an expansion.
Call me a skeptic regarding Tyranids, though I didn't mean to pooh-pooh the race from actually entering into the series.

The eye shape does seem to hint at Chaos, unless I'm reading way too much into space cloud formations.

I thought this too at first but then I looked at the several chaos codex and could really find any symbols that matched, don't get me wrong there are some similarities to the shapes but flipping through other codex and fluff material I've seen similar symbols all over the place whether Choas was involved or not. Personally I think the stone tablet in the background is just that, a stone tablet.

If it's Choas, meh nothing new. Choas has been seen before. If it's 'nids, great finally something new to see. However, I won't be holding my breath either way for Nids or Choas until another trailer sheds more light on what exactly we can expect.

If anyone is curious you can see the stone table behind the farseer at 0:30 seconds into the youtube video posted in original post of this thread.

The Tyranid "Shadow of the Warp" would probably cause a lot of issues. Tyranids are heavily tied into their psychic collective. It'd be like trying to replace the processor in a computer with a grilled cheese sandwich, just doesn't work the same.

If you had Nids that were disconnect from the hive mind for some reason (which happens), then it would be like having a wild animal. I think the warp would twist them, but ultimately they'd be mindless beast (like chaos spawn).

Tyranids are anathema to the warp, and thus chaos. Their "shadow in the warp" is basically a big ball of anti-warp collective mental energy that bulldozes warp entities (such as the souls of psykers/atropaths/navigators/etc.) aside.

...That fact gives some tantalizing hints at the possible origins of the Tyranids...

If we all thing it's exodite eldar, then that's nothing exciting. So we'll obtain great joy should it in fact be Tyranids.

of course it won't be. It will be hanky wielding Exodite Eldar... who are basically craft world eldar who wear sandals.

Wiat Karmoon, although you could be right, this is GW, think about the most likely outcome.

It s a different space marine chapter we've never heard of! You know one that plays just like a normal marine army, but is a different colour and for some "mysterious reason" wants to fight against the marines who are already there. Yeah that would be. That would make me cry.

I like sandals.

It was worth quoting.

Anyways, I'm not really seeing the Khorne-ish-ness of the tablet, but I'm not exactly a Khorne expert either. Its still too early to know for sure, either way. Time to lurk around the other forums for some more info...

But I wont be holding my breath as my computer probably wont be able to play it anyway!I know it's early days yet, but I read this yesterday and thought 'I wonder if there is any information out there on what specs will be required to run this game?'

I did a bit of poking around and, knowing full well that we won't know for certain for some time, the theory at the moment is that if you can run Company of Heroes, you can run Dawn of War 2.

Or something like that. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

Oh, and I found this info on the Dawn of War 2 fan forums, just so you know. Still not sure if that makes it a credible source though.

In other news, I'm quite liking Karmoon's theory. Let's all look forward to beating up pansy sandal-wearing Eldar, and then be pleasantly surprised when we don't get to.

I can run COH, but I don't want to, does that still mean I can run dow2?

But its fun once in a while to crank everything up and watch bits and pieces of flesh and metal fly!

It looks like a good game. I have all of the DoW games, just not currently installed as my computer cant handle them.

The only thing I dont like about it is that most of the Eldar that were being killed were women. When I see that, I get a slight sad feeling.

The thing that was coming to the planet will most likely be the tyranids. When it pans up to the moon, to the bottom left, you can see a hive ship partially hidden by the clouds. I can anyway.

I dont know about the rest of you but I thought the Farseer looked familiar, anybody else get that?

Yeah, generic Eldar female Farseer number four. I'd recognise her anywhere. B)

I personally cannot wait for this game. Should have finished Soulstorm with all the races by the time it comes out. The tyranids should be an interesting race to play with. :act-up:

Then I saw this blog entry yesterday:
Kotaku, the Gamer's Guide (http://kotaku.com/index.php?refId=5039181)

Which has the extended version of the trailer we all started with (added content near end of video):

So far I've seen the following in vids/pics:
- Hive Tyrant (various builds)
- Carnifex (various builds)
- Ravener
- Lictor
- Hormaguant
- Gaunts (various builds)
- Warriors (various builds)
- Zoanthropes

I haven't seen vids/pics of:
- Genestealers
- Biovores
- Gargoyles
- Spore mines (although they are discussed in the article)
- Brood lord

The great thing about Tyranids is that they absolutely require no power whatsoever. Everything is requisition based. At least if how they play in the patch holds out, which is probably how they playtested them for this game. :act-up:

The inclusion of 'Nids is a very, very good sign for this game. They're the best race to graphically mesh with the new engine and its environmental features.

I signed onto Relic gaming with Homeworld 1, and have run a gaming organization participating in Relic and other games for nearly 9 years now. In DoW 1 we hit it from the closed beta onward, and several of our players placed in WCG over the years. One of our members, Fell, was even recruited by Relic (he'd been our DoW division operator after I left the game). You can bet we'll be active in DoW2 from the earliest possible point onward.

Relic makes amazing RTS, this will be no different.

Not to wax random, but the inclusion of 'Nids makes a 'Nid player *AND* Relic fan like me incredibly excited.

I'm really looking forward to this game.
We have 4 races confirmed, and others may follow yet.
I hope my machine can handle it.. its starting to show its age 2 years since I built it.

I heard somewhere that 'Nids were "rounding out" the 4 races in the game for release. I would expect the others to show up with expansions.

Frankly, I hope for that - the last thing we really need is a campaign where they try to weave too much crap into one story.

Awesome trailer, though my only criticism is that the Warp Spider Exarch's deathspinners seemed to fire some kind of plasma balls rather than the shredding mono-filament wire expected in the fluff.... But I'm just being pedantic :-)
Probably more in line with what a Warp Spider Exarch can run with now.

However, I have troubles telling the Blood Angels' enemies in the dark - are those Eldar or Dark Eldar?

they are actually blood ravens not angels

Just saw the trailer, and i have a theory why the seargent survived. The Farseer could have been using mind war and the seargent got the higher roll.

Or maybe he just made his save?
