Huhu,

uhm... Staffmembers aren't the most reliable source (and definately not the fastest :P).
I honestly doubt that GW will release Thunderhawks, but some pics or details to prove me wrong would be nice though ;)

Yeah - I hear the same one about this time every year. I think it's an inside joke...

But yeah - never gonna happen.

Just think of the amount of fun GW staff could have with all of us by starting insane and malicious rumours?

Hahahaha...

something like, GW are going to announce WHO the 2 missing legions are next summer!!!

People who have fits... they would hurt themselves... they would sign their souls to the devil (or stonehambey if they can't find him) ... and that's before GW announce that it was all a big elaborate joke just to get geeks like you and me excited. hahahaha.

I really shouldn't find like this so amusing...

But yeah... plastic thunderhawks would be nice, but I think they're unlikely. In the mean time, I'd recommend people by those model airplanes you can get, and call them Chaos Jumbo Jets of Doom.

I like the idea of a daemon prince leaping from a 747 to beat up some hapless Eldar.

I heard that the new Emperor Titan Plastic Kit is coming out at the same time. A redshirt cut his palm and dripped blood on the printout he showed me so it must be true.

Or maybe it isn't

A plastic thunderhawk would make some sense. The baneblade has been pretty popular but I am not sure if it made its development costs back or not. If it did then we could expect to see the GW boys developing a line of superheavies. Moving to the marines after the Baneblade would make commercial sense to me.

No mate your mistaken! Its the new chaos heavy support choice seen in the heavy support poll. Its the new Danjones model. Its 6ft3 tall, covered in chevrons and leads your army to victory every game.

Plastic thunderhawk! Im sure i will be in plastic before this and thats cast in plastic not wrapped and zipped in plastic.

not being funny but why would GW undercut one of FW's flagship models?

Cyric the Mad
July 23rd, 2008, 21:31
Probably for the same reasons they're making plastic drop pods - cheaper to manufacture and the ability to sell more of them, which would make up for the reduced cost vs. the Forge World price.

I keep holding on to a glimmer of hope to see a plastic thunderhawk someday, but I don't know how likely it is,

GW undercutted the Baneblade, is gonna undercut the Valkyrie too so why not a T-Hawk. ANyway no one would buy it really be too expensive.

Ok, instead of bitchin about how plastic thunderhawks are defanatly not going to happen, think about the baneblade and drop pod.
How many people said they would never happen after rumors were started by GW staff, and low and behold, plastic baneblades came out and plastic drop pods are coming out.

Too much.. positive... energy...

optimism... overwhelming ... pessimistic hyper circuitry...

That said... i seem to remember getting excited about a plastic Trygon, and what happened there? Another false promise from GW to woo me... *cries*

Quick Everyone dive for cover... crap its the transport version lol shoot it quick!
Yeah lol I would seriously save up for this model, its incredibly fluffy for my Daemonhunters army, it'll be like when I had my mellenium falcon when I was a kid, all over again lol
I take it if they make Drop Pods there gonna make them a must have in the SM codex with special rules, but who cares when you have a warp pysked moron (mystic) to pick it out, alls you have to do is look to the skies brothers and get a free a shot at them.
I would like either a plastic Thunderhawk or a Valkerie either one will do, it would hyp up my games alot.
Also off topic but they should make plastic markers for each army like off forgeworld symbols.

You had a Millenium Falcon as a kid?! Curse you...

As for your Daemonhunters, the plastic Valkyrie is (to my great surprise) sounding more and more likely. Someone posted a pic of an interior rendering (although it could be the interior of anything, really), and if nothing else, no-one's been able to disprove the rumor that Stormtroopers will be able to take them as (fast skimmer) transports in the new Guard Codex. *Shrug* So you just may get one of your wishes. METAL!

lol,

Can you imagine having to carry and 4.5 kilo Thunderhawk everywhere? And that was just the wings? (Yep that's right this is a joke as they barely have wings)

I don't see why it is so unlikely that GW would produce a model that so many people would blatantly want to buy. Perhaps we should ask that as a side question. Would you buy one if one came out? I probably would. Then again three sounds better doesn't it!

I remember the WD issue when they announced that - all the pieces came packaged in a wooden display box if I recall, and the whole thing cost around £800. Madness! That would almost buy you a Tau Manta these days :P

EDIT: Ah no, it was £400 actually (40,000 pence), so half a Manta or most of a Reaver!

But everyone knew well in advance that both drop pods and the BB would come out. For certain.

Nobody is "bitchin" - it just isn't going to happen. I don't expect you'll be aware of this - but I hear this rumour every year - have done since 1992. Lo and behold - 16 years later - no Thunderhawk. It really is just one of those things the odd staff member will say to a gullible gamer. I'm not for one second suggesting that it's malicious or that GW staff members are never right - I'm good friends with one of the chaps who works at my local store and he hasn't been wrong yet - but they will occasionally tell people things like this for one good reason. It's funny! Especially something that's been around forever like the Thunderhawk rumour. I certainly don't work for GW, but even I find it funny when I see things like this posted in various forums and being discussed in shops about the same time every year. Despite the fact that it just isn't going to happen (at least for a very VERY long time) people are still sucked in. You can't argue with wishful thinking I suppose...

But yeah - this is completely different to the Baneblade and drop pod.

I remember that. There were some limited edition ones that had a display stand that moved to! It was sooo rediculous!

They only made a few didnt they because each one broke the mold.

Why then does the August WD have a datasheet that includes three Thunderhawks? Why has FW produced a new transporter version of the Thunderhawk?

Are they just teasing us all?

"Hey guys, guess what you can play with if you spend a whole ton of money..."

I think the kit is in the works, it seems unreasonable to produce a datasheet now if they are still going to be using the resin models...

I think I am changing my mind since I got my WD yesterday.

The same reason that the Apocalypse rulebook has rules for an Emperor class Titan (not even made by FW). Some people out there will be rich enough/lucky enough to either own 3 FW Thunderhawks or be able to get 3 together. I'm sorry - but this just isn't happening. And it would take something a hell of a lot more concrete than a datasheet in WD - which doesn't even mention anything about plastic models, to convince me otherwise. What exactly makes you think they are? Does it say so? Does it mention anything about it? Well then why on earth would you assume that they are talking about anything other than the existing FW models??

Dreachon
July 25th, 2008, 10:01
The thunderhawk transporter is already several years old so it has no bearing on this rumour, FW made it because they thought it to be cool.
As for the thunderhawk datasheet, it doesn't mean there's a model for it we have plenty of other datasheets for units that will never get a model.

Zarahemna
July 25th, 2008, 10:33
I'm sorry. I think I am sufferring from a lack of awareness. What things are covered by Datasheets that will never get a model?

I genuinely don't know. When I saw my WD I thought the inclusion of a datasheet for thunderhawks was significant. Especially since it included three of the things...

What Dreachon said. There is an endless list of Datasheets that will never have models.

I'm sorry, but can't even see where you made the connection between the appearance of a datasheet involving Thunderhawks and their release as plastic models, beyond this ancient rumour.

With the new PlanetStrike book in early 09 you can bet GW's darlings the Space Marines who are forever getting updates and new models like they're going out of fashion will get there own nice special model, what with the BaneBlade being primarily Imperial Guard, the bread and butter (SM) of GW would likely get a super heavy.
I heard that the reason PlanetStrike was pushed from late 08 to early 09 was that making the ThunderHawk in plastic was taking longer to redesign then they planned.

I (very) briefly owned one of those. Each was numbered and came in a nice big wooden box. They did, apparently, break the molds afterwards (GW that is, not the thunderhawks).

Why are there so many nay-sayers in this thread?

Unless you have incontrovertible proof that there is without a doubt not going to be a plastic thunderhawk, then let the kid dream!!

I'll let him dream, but it won't happen, the cost of the plastic in a thunderhawk would cost mroe than GW could sell them for.

From the chief who runs the gamesday in England told the crowd of people in Chicago gamesday, the plastic thunderhawk will not be released in plastic anytime soon. He specifically said that to make a thunderhawk in plastic will take so much development time and new castings that a whole three new armies could be made before this single model. Though he did say, never say never, but that's how he ended all of his answers.

LOL I had one of those, too. Darned thing was almost bigger than I was. It was unwieldy (for a kid my size, anyway) and I could never get the stupid ramp to stay up, so as you can imagine play with this thing usually involved countless re-enactments of "Stop that ship! Blast 'em!" :D
