Hello all, first post here on LO. Been reading the forums here the last couple days and really like the community. I wanted some advice on my HE army i've built, since I don't play much and am just picking the hobby up again after not playing for 8 years.

So this is supposed to be a balanced army I can take against anyone and have an enjoyable(= me not getting slaughtered) match.

Characters:
Prince - Great Weapon, Armour of Caledor, Reaver Bow - w/ White Lions
Mage Lv2 - Jewel of Dusk, Dispel Scroll - w/ Spearmen
Mage - Ring of Fury, Elven Steed - w/ Reavers

Core:
19 Spearmen - Full Command
12 Archers - Musician

Special:
19 White Lions - Full Command, Lion Standard
15 Swordmasters - Full Command, Talismen of Loec (Champion)
Lion Chariot
5 Dragon Princes - Full Command, Banner of Arcane Protection
5 Ellyrian Reavers - Musician, Bows
6 Shadow Warriors

Rare:
2 Repeater Bolt Throwers

Thanks

Once one of those AS 5+ T3 Ellyrians are shot down, the "Look out sir!" rule won't kick in. I.E he can be targeted and shot with ease.
It's suicide vs an army with ANY shooting.
Allso, the Ellyrians won't be fast cav any more.

Put him down on the ground with the archers.

Otherwise it looks good!
Magic might be a bit weak though.

Maybe split the WL into two units, but I don't know. Try it out!

The Ellyrians will be continue to be Fast cavalry, he just won't be able to benefit from fast cavalry rules....just as WL can still move through woods unhindered if accompanied by a character etc etc.

However, agree that a unit of 5 models is in trouble..

I would be tempted to drop two archers, and make the Reavers 6 strong. Then the mage gets a bit more meat shield in his unit.
I would also split the Swordmasters into two units, and unless you are giving them a magic banner, lose the banner, replace with a second Blade Lord, so maybe 1 unit of 7 with blade lord, and one unit of 8 with blade lord and musician. Talisman of Loec on a champion is suicide...he WILL die, regardless of the outcome of the challenge. I would give him something more "useful" like the talisman of light.

Finally, the White Lions need some magical protection - sacred incense is almost a must, and the prince should be able to take it. If he has a cheaper suit of armour, then you can give the armour of caledor to a unit champion, who should be the one taking challenges....

Drop ring of fury from the mage, and give him ring of corin instead (Vaul's unmaking is probably one of teh nastiest spells in the High Elf arsenal!), as then you can give the ring of fury to another your prince instead of the Reaver bow, as if he is marching with the WL, he won't be able to use it, but he CAN use the ring of Fury. Any spare points on the mages should be used on sigil of Asuryan or scrolls.

Thanks guys,

This is exactly what I was looking for since my army has mostly been fighting ogres and chaos mortals, It's probably somewhat tailored for armies that have to come to me. The people I've been playing with are newcomers to the game, and i'm still really rusty, but a lot of people I plan on playing in the future are veterans, so i'm trying to prepare for that.

Really good call on moving the ring of fury to my Prince, I like that. Also the mage with the reavers, I completely spaced that he doesn't follow fast cav rules. I'm leaving the talisman of loec on the blade lord though, it's cheap points wise and no one sees it coming because it's on a champion. It's no guarantee, but no one wants 3 WS6 S5 hits with re-rolls for hits, wounds, and saves coming at their characters.

I'll probably move the mage somewhere else, as I want the reavers for fast cav purposes. I can't split the SM or WL without ditching a special unit, which my first choice to remove is the lion chariot, even though it's earned its keep every time with close combat armies. Hmm as usual, I have some thinkin and rearrangin to do.

Technically, teh mage does follow fast cavalry rules if he is with a fast cavalry unit. However, he can't really benefit from the main rules benefit, which is the march + shoot....

Good spot on the slots, I think the first slot to go should be the Lion Chariot, as it probably won;t keep up with teh bulk of your force - i.e. the cavalry and the elite infantry. Probably best to pull in another Repeater, and use the points to buff your characters.
