Man I think I had enough of GW once and for all, I just got word that they lowered there prices again, I think this is the last straw for me, I officially have decided to quite the hobby after this price decrease.

Well on a more serious not, a lot of product has dropped in price, the $45 regiment box set, most have dropped to $40, battle forces are now $105, stealth suits have dropped $17, and most $40 plastic sets have dropped to $30.

So with so many people complaining about price increases, what do you guys think about a price decrease?

That... Is a very surprising result. GW prices are due to increase around the world at the end of this month (just metal models for those who may not have heard) and Canada is decreasing prices? I don't think GW anywhere has EVER decreased prices.

They obviously wouldn't do it if they were making lots of sales, so I can only assume that they are trying to increase sales because they aren't getting enough. If so, thats finally a good marketting decision and a good step in the right direction. I haven't paid too much attention to it, but isn't it true that prices are cheaper in the US and most Canadaians just buy from there? That could quite likely be the reason for the drop.

they are doing this because GW Canada, and GW US are merging and forming GW North America, and they are stream lining the prices across the board, and with Canadas dollar the way it is, it doesn't make sense to have our prices to far above the US prices.

really? I was just in a GW the other day and didn't notice, unless they just changed it, glad I didn't buy anything.

I could definatly see them losing buisness to the states with the dollars being about par and prices being significantly higher up north, Say the Black Reach box is $60 in the USA i think, and it's 75 here unless that's been changed. I definatly debated putting in an order to the US online store, except I'm lazy.

If it's true than YAY! might have to go buy some more models I don't need just to celebrate.

With the new price increase due to the rise in cost for tin and GW announcement that they are fast forwarding their plastic R&D to get new releases out, im looking forward to see what comes out in the next few months/years.

That's very weird indeed. I live in Canada myself and that's a great news for us. Too bad I bought 2 box last week, I could have saved 15$. Is it just me or the new price make it look much more affordable ?

I checked some prices for space marines in the GW online stores here is what I found

Model..............US...................Can....... .........Can (new)
tactical squad....35....................45................. ......40
scout squad.......20....................35.............. ........23
scouts (snipers).25....................40................ .......30

these are just a few examples devs dropped to 40, assault marines to 30, I think GW finally did something right.

When I heard this news on the 3rd, we werent allowed to talk to anyone about it because it would get the 'leaker' into trouble. It was suppose to be released the following week but we had no idea why it got delayed and delayed.. but finally, it's here .. I can finally shrug off the restriction and start buying stuff again.

The only time I have bought GW products from a domestic retailer in like two years is when the GLS did package deals that amounted to 30% off or more.

Seriously, the retail on most items was 40-50% higher, and the difference in currencies fluctuates around 5%. For even a single battalion box it was cheaper to pay FULL US RETAIL PLUS SHIPPING than to buy local. Let alone buy at 20% off US retailer.

Here's to GW no longer forcing me to willingly choose to get ripped off in order to support my FLGS!!

This is great news, GW Canada is finally realizing that the gap between the dollars is very slim. :) This is one of the smartest things GW have done in years.

This sounds interesting... I know in Greece there will be a raise (in metal models, paints and brushes... and books!)

The bad thing I have considered... They will raise the prices in metal models. When they will cast them in plastic and start producing them they won't drop the price...

Yep, that has already happened. New plastic HE dragon is no cheaper than the old metal one, new DE hydra is no cheaper than the old metal. A new plastic model to replace an old metal most likely won't be cheaper. Except in the case of infantry and cavalry, grave guard are now much cheaper as are DE cold one knights. Large things won't decrease.

In fact, plastics have incurred a sneaky unannounced price rise recently in the drop to boxes of 10 rather than 20. Half the models, but the price didn't half, it only dropped by around 30% depending on where you live.

What's so bad about a price DECREASE that would make you quit the hobby?

Well honestly, the Canadian dollar is almost the same as the American. However the stuff is 50-100% more expensive in Canada, which is bull. GW Canada is all but dead because literally nobody buys there anymore and just orders from the US. Buisnesses know that and offer specail shipping to Canada ect. It's less of a good sign from GW and more of them trying to retain any buisness in Canada.

I would like to know what GW in canada you go to that is dead? I work at GW in BC and we do very well most months. We have been hearing rumours sence the Manager meeting last month but we were told to keep our mouths shut about it. And the reasion for the huge difference between Canada and the US prices is because it was based on the UK pound conversion rates from 1997. The prices have never been bases on the Can/US dollar. Now that Gw is going 'GW north america' they wanted to bring the prices more in line across the board. I just can't wait until next may when the rest of the daemon stuff is finally released.:soldier:

I'm surprised at this. It certainly made sense to do it, but GW dropping prices? Could this be the end of civilisation as we know it?

Certainly good news for all the Canadians anyway. Now I just wish they'd drop prices across the board. I can dream....

Like many of you, Im very surprised about a drop in price.

In the UK, the SM Spearhead jumped from £140 to £160.

Ouch, that's a pretty sizeable jump. You're still getting the spearhead for about $20 CDN less than we do over here, though!

OH NO! I just noticed the brushes are more expensive now!
WHAT! $9 a brush! that's monstrousity! I buy average of 2-3 brushes a month because I either wear them out or I just buy them simply because I forget to bring my brush that day. Looks like I have to be very careful from now on, wouldnt want to spend a couple hundred dollars on brushes alone every year. :moneymouth:

Oh man that's fantastic. So the price drop is in effect now?
Sweet, this makes building my army more viable. You just made my day.

Yeah, here is what I heard; I work at an independent hobby shop in Alberta. So GW Canada, not actually aasociated with GW the way Games Workshop US is (its more a supplier of exclusively Games Workshop products); basically got a dump taken on them; All sales account managers were basically fired on the spot, and replaced in this new merger. One reason might have been the enormous amount of people switching to Alliance, a distributor in the states. Why order from GW Canada when you can get whatever you need for 20-30% cheaper? We got 10 Black Reach boxes shipped to us from a fellow hobby store owner who orders through Alliance, a friend of my boss, when AoBR was back ordered from Games Workshop Canada, and we even got them a couple bucks cheaper a box. I agree with the statement that this is probably a means to retain some of their Canadian accounts.

looks like the stock market crisis will do some good for us modelers :)
if it takes a crisis for GW to release some quality products ( since they are listed as luxury products in the stock market they should at least have the quality related to what they are listed as) well i just hope the crisis will dure enuff to beat up some logic in the heads of those managing the company.

Darn, specialist games, or battlefleet gothic atleast, is still twice the price from the canadian online store as the american. This doesn't help my dream of building a fleet at all. Oh well guess I should be happy with what I get.
