View Full Version : My Warhound Titan! Duke111 October 1st, 2008, 00:34 Hey guys! So this is my Warhound. Now, buying one of these is a pretty big investment to say the least; and for a while, i was defintely feeling buyers remorse; it took two months to finally arrive, and it cost $30 shipping (which was supposed to be free) because they send backorders through a private courier (sounds kinda like a scam to me; couldn't they just say everything is back-ordered and then no one would get free shipping on anything?).
When i finally got it, it was horrendously greasy, from the resin release agent. Now, I have bought Forgewrold models before; but this was by far much worse than anything else. Greasier than that "fry chef" at McDonalds. Seriously. Anyways, it took me honestly like 20 hours of scrubbing to clean.
Now, this is where things started to ge better. Building it was pretty fun, and the resin fit together moderately well. I was satisfied with the job did on the base, and I even added a few other things to make my Warhound special; There is a huge pin between his torso and... waist? so it swivels. I mainly just did this for easy transportation, but meh; Its always classic playing an Apocalypse game and swivelling his torso to face another Baneblade or swarm of orks or something right before I kill them. I also drilled a hole between the cockpit and the other chamber of the torso, and ran a green LED wire though there, with a 9V battey resting in the other torso chamber. The LED wasn't as bright as I thought it was going to be, or else I would have pictures in the dark. But the idea was cool, the eyes of my Warhound glowing green. I am in the process of ordering better LEDs on eBay at this moment. I will try and post more pictures when I fix that.
Anyways, I finished building my Warhound right around my birthday, so my boss, Jason Richards, offered to paint it for me. Well, that was of course an offer I couldn't refuse- and one of the wickedest birthday present ever lol. He finished in one week, with everything but the interior done, which he left for me. He also left all the little pennants and name plates for me to detail, so I wrote various latin words, (better, faster, stronger, the word of the emperor protects, let there be light [on the guns :D]etc etc.) in gothic letters, as I had decided to name my titan Dies Irae, which I am pretty sure translates to Wrath of the Gods. So, thats about it. Oh, and its wicked playing with this; it hauls ass! To date, I have killed... well a lot of stuff. One of the defining moments was blowing up, killing an entire green tide, as well as half my allies! Mwahahahaha it was a pretty funny game, to say the least. So anyways, here are the pictures, I hope I uploaded them correctly and what not. Cyric the Mad October 1st, 2008, 00:38 Nice looking model. "Dies Irae" actually means "Day of Wrath" but it's still pretty cool.
The guy who painted this for you did a really nice job. My compliments to him. Thanks for sharing the pics! Duke111 October 1st, 2008, 00:41 Oh okay, cool Thanks for the clearing that up! Leech October 1st, 2008, 00:48 That's a well painted titan. I think you have done a good job putting it together and posing it, clever idea about the swiveling hips. Your paint job is good. I like the colours you have used on it. I think they bring out it's details quite well. I also think the way you have painted it to be dirty is good. The dirt gives it alook like it has seen much death and carnage over the years. The base is good too, all that mess and rumble does make it look like it is crushing a ruined battlefield underfoot. Sorry you got messed about with the backorder problem. Rep for thy titan. Kaffl October 1st, 2008, 01:13 Dies Irae is the name of the Imperator Titan in False Gods (the second book in the Horus Heresy series) that is commanded by Princeps Esau Turnet. Not sure if that was intentional (I will assume no since yours is a Warhound), but I don't think the Imperium repeats names on Titans.
That's not to say you can't ignore it - after all, I ignored the existance of the entire 5th company of Blood Angels because I liked my fluff better. I just thought you'd want to know that your Warhound is actually a pre-heresy-built Imperator.
Nice paint scheme by the way, melikes. Duke111 October 1st, 2008, 01:17 Hahahah I had NO idea! Seriously, I just went through every single name "latin phrase" on wikipedia, trying to find one that both sounded fairly cool and had a good meaning. Thanks for the heads up; I will have to change it! :D Duke111 October 1st, 2008, 01:19 Ira Deorum? That is actually wrath f the gods lol. Hopefully that i not taken. Although i do have a backup one in case it is; Fidei Defensor; Defender of the Faith! lol. Rengaw October 1st, 2008, 01:59 lol, you can't call it Dies Irae! the dies irae was destroyed during the storm of iron novel,
naw, you can call your warhound whatever you want, you earned it by paying the forgeworld pricetag. Kaffl October 1st, 2008, 02:55 Ira Deorum probably isn't taken, but don't take me for my word on that. I'm a slow reader, I haven't read much more than about half the second Horus Neresy book, nevermind the huge number of books the Black Library has published with Titans in them. That sounds cooler than Dies Irae anyway. Thumbs up! Lupercal October 1st, 2008, 07:33 I forget where, possibly the lexicanum, but there was at least one sight i found that had a list of every titan with a name that has ever been mentioned in GW fluff, and Ira Deorum doesnt ring any bells, so I dont think its taken. If you'd like to check, shouldnt be too hard to find with a few creative google searches, I believe I was looking for it to find out if there were any names of titans that had been with the 3rd legion (Emperor's Children). Sadly, there were no warhounds, which is what i was looking for as I plan to one day buy one of those monstrosities.
In any case, I like your titan, 'tis very very nice. Zemaphore October 1st, 2008, 09:07 Ow my, you've done it now... You're making me buy a warhound... Damn you and your superbe painting skills, damn you. :) Duke111 October 1st, 2008, 19:12 I just want to clear this up; I didn't actually paint it, my boss did. Hes a Golden Daemon painter lol. I did all the gothic writing, but you can't see hardly any of it in the pictures; there is a lot on the shins and at the beginnings of the guns. Plus one right on the front of the cockpit. But yeah, if you don't mind paying an arms and a leg, and scrubbing the other arm off, I think its worthwhile. I can't see myself buying another one, but it makes a freakin cool centerpiece to the army. Inquisitor Blackadder October 1st, 2008, 22:35 That's a really nicely built titan there! Good idea about pinning, now your titan can do the seven seas twist to keep his joints supple! :P just kidding...
It has been really nicely painted as well, but its the build quality combined with the titan that makes it such an awesome creation. Well done! :)
Regarding titan names, call it whatever you want regardless of a book or a piece of fluff. It's YOUR titan and you should be able to call it whatver YOU want. No offence intended to anyone by the way :) Whenever I get a titan I'll call it Stewie, as it's about a foot tall and capable of great destruction. Perturabo October 1st, 2008, 23:15 All these Warhound threads are making me want to buy one. Not to mention seeing two in the flesh at a GW the other day.
Nice job. The base looks good. It looks simple, but there's a lot of wreckage there. danjones87 October 2nd, 2008, 00:11 It looks really nice! Can we have some pictures of the interior? Its a shame mine doesnt have a Turbo laser!
Booohoo!
Dan fallvictim October 2nd, 2008, 05:11 That is one nice warhound you got there. I'm liking the color scheme and the overall weathering done to the machine, Nicely done. Duke111 October 2nd, 2008, 06:46 I haven't finished the interior yet; I am such a horrible procrastinator when it comes to painting. I am working on the princeps right now, and waiting for the green LEDs to come in before i paint the rest. I might change the LEDs to blue; do you guys think that would look better? blue shining out of the cockpit, instead of green? the whole idea might just look way too cheesy and i might end up scraping the whole illuminated cockpit idea, who knows. Kai-Itza October 2nd, 2008, 09:52 That's one very beautiful Titan! Being a fan of titans, I'm very impressed by the work that you and your boss had done to the beastie. Good Job!
As for the LED's, I'd say go for the Green. Simply because it adds to the ancient feel of the technology. Not to mention that the blue-type lights are often taken up by Tau-type technology :P.
+Rep. for you and your boss!
-Kai-Itza- Inquisitor Blackadder October 2nd, 2008, 11:48 I would go for green as it suits the whole cockpit feel. Like you see on those military programmes with the pilots and the ships where it's all green. Okay, I know it's done in nightvision, but that's what I see when thinking of the titan cockpit :P Duke111 October 2nd, 2008, 20:19 Good call, Kai-Itza and Inquistor Blackadder; I can see it being green now; and there is no way I would want to be assoicated with foul xenos! When I think of cockpit, I kinda think of the picture on p. 142 of the 5th Ed rulebook, in the tactica control inset at the bottom of the page; all cramped, a bunch of servitors, with a faint green glow illuminating the chamber. (Obviously without the pillars in the background and ion general, a smaller, more cramped room) Kaffl October 2nd, 2008, 21:30 I'd prefer blue myself - green is kind of cliche and it looks nowhere near as cool (obviously very opinionated - not everyone has my eyes). Maybe a lovely topaz? Rengaw October 2nd, 2008, 23:05 red would also be a fitting chaos glow. but i would vote green if it were a democracy Declor October 3rd, 2008, 01:25 Haha i wish i hadnt read that spoiler, i just started on the horus heresy novels today!
The titan looks amazing, both the positioning ad the paintjob, kudos to you and your boss! Im only starting my chaos army and im already excited about the day when i can throw money at forge world and buy a titan! It'll take you a while to reach Legion, by then you'd probably have forgotten about that spioler ;)
Look out for GiF and FotE, an extremely enjoyable read :)
