View Full Version : Uber Units!

Soylent Robot

I'm doing this out of curiosity, but I'm asking you guys n gals to post your bestest uber units, for 40K and Fantasy.
I'd better say what I mean. I define an Uber unit that is very points heavy, and generally destroy anything they come into contact with, but is still legal. Pretty much every army can field one, you know, the Archaon in his pimped out Raider with full bodyguard, or the mob of Biker Nobz, or the block of Blood Knights supported by not much else.
So, for this, your Uber unit has to:
1) Be usable in a normal game, by which I mean fit into the FOC or whatever the FOC equivilant is in Fantasy. Points cost, or even tactical usefulness, is not an issue.
2) Follow the rules, by which I mean you can have as many Independant characters as you possibly can in this unit (usually two) but Carnifexes cannot join Warrior Broods, so you can't do that.

I have no idea why I'm doing this, I'm bored and I want to see what you psychos can come up with. Anyway, here's my Uber Unit:

10 Ork Nobz
Warbikez
10 Power Klaws
Painboy
Cybork Bodies
10 Bosspoles
Warboss
Warbike for the Boss
Power Klaw
Cybork Body

965 pts

I like 10 Meganobs with cybork bodies and Mad Dok Grotsnik in a Battlewagon.

10 new marine Honor Guard with Marnues in a Land Raider.

20 Grave Guard with Regen banner, Helm of Commandment, and Corpse Cart in tow.

20 Executioners with BSB carrying ASF Banner and Crone Hellebron. 20 Black Guard with ASF Banner and properly equipped Dreadlord.

A DE Dreadlord on a Black Dragon with the Armor of Eternal Servitude and Pendant of Khaleth. Unkillable!

Ouch that is an uber unit.

However I prefer to go against uber units as much as possible. I like a mixed force so tend to field more bodies, less upgrades.

Jetbike Seer Council w/ Auturch with a bike, laser lance and mandiblaster.

Archon with full Incubi retinue, including Master and Drazhar, wielding a Punisher and using every possible other piece of wargear, including the Shadow Field, mounted in a fully upgraded Raider.
Drazhar and the Master makes this uber.
To elaborate:
Archon with Combat Drugs, Punisher, Crucible of Malediction, Haywire Grenades, Plasma Grenades, Shadow Field, Soulseeker Ammunition, Tormentor Helm, Trophy Racks, Webway Portal, Animus Vitae, Archangel of Pain, Nightmare Doll, Vexanthrope, Xenospasm.
9 Incubi - 1 Drazhar; 1 Master with Combat Drugs, Haywire Grenades, Hell Mask or Mask of the Damned, Soulseeker Ammunition, Terrorfex, Trophy Racks; Plasma Grenades all around.
Raider with Disintegrator, Horrorfex, Night Shield, Scaling Nets, Screaming Jets, Scythes, Slave Snares, Torture Amp, Trophy Racks.
This would cost either 727 or 737 points, depending on the Master's choice of Mask. If I didn't enter anything wrong on the calculator, that is.

Or simply a Cannoness with all wargear. with a fully tricked-out Celestian bodyguard, riding a fully tricked-out Rhino.
Or an Inquisitor Lord with three Warrior followers, all three Acolytes, all three Healers, two Sages, in a fully upgraded Land Raider. With psychic powers.

Eldrad Ulthran
Yriel
Warlock W/conceal
Spiritseer
10 Wraithguard

Try getting that off an objective!

Abaddon the Despoiler
Typhus
10 Chaos Terminators
3 Power Fists
5 Combi Plasmas
Heavy Flamer
Icon of Tzeentch

Not something you want to deep strike near you. Or on the same board as you.

50 conscripts
Gaunt/Yarrick

In the one a side objective games this can be hell for an opponent.

I've faced a couple such units, but rarely take them myself, reasoning that they rarely do well.

What I've faced:
*20 Orc Big 'Uns with a souped up banner, joined by a BSB with another obscene banner
I dealt with this by losing a unit, then shooting everything at it next turn. Said unit panicked and ran off the board. <3 WEs.

*Archaon and his Swords of Chaos- about 9 of them with some nasty banner.
This unit squished one of my R&F units, then I got some pistoliers in behind them. Almost bagged all the SoC. I got them down to their banner bearer.

*Completely tooled up Slann Lord with 20-25 Temple Guard, and a Saurus hero.
The Emperor and his retinue smashed into this unit, actually making them flee. I reduced this unit to the Slann Lord fighting the Emperor and a few knights and a WP. I had to leave before we could play the last turn (2 cc phases). Stupid Restricted License:(. The Slann lord was reduced to casting fireballs on my handgunner unit after the player found out that all my decent units had MR2+. Heheh.

*Lord of Khorne, Aspiring Champion of Khorne, and about 11 Knights of Khorne.
I almost got a Rear charge on this unit with my Tyrant and his bodyguards due to some sneaky movements by my gnoblar trappers. In the end, he got a charge on me, and I got squished.

*About 30 Chaos Warriors with an Aspiring Champion, and a Sorceror
Again, I almost managed to kill this unit, but some bad rolls on my ally's part left my Dryads and Treeman high and dry.

I've taken a unit of about 8-10 Knights with Kurt Helborg/The Emperor and sometimes a Warrior Priest, and that's about it for my superunits.

This is why I don't think big units work. I could beat that 2K list with my 1500pt WE list comfortably. There are three huge units that are also easy to redirect and multi-charge.

I once had a unit of 12 Silver Helms, BSB, Tyrion, of course, this is unworkable now as Silver helms aren't so good.

Battelfield performance was poor, though, as if the unit got charged, the SIlver Helms ended up being easy combat res and Tyrion had to kill far more than was possible to stand a chance.

I might try Tyrion, BSB and 10 Dragon princes with Drakemaster equipped with a suitably useful magic item, and the Banner of Ellyrion on the Dragon Princes, Battle Banner on the BSB...

This unit will outnumber most opponents, and the front rnak will outfight most opponents, with so many ASF attacks it isn't even funny....

It's immune to fire, has some magical resistance, and can charge through woods or other difficult terrain as if they weren't there....

Arklite
October 3rd, 2008, 12:39
dwarf lord with shieldbearers, master rune of kingship, rune of resistance, great weapon
thane with battle standard, master rune of stromni redbeard, rune of battle. rune of stoicism
thane with master rune of challenge, master rune of gromril, rune of resistance, great weapon
thane with master rune of swiftness rune of cleaving rune of fury, shield, rune of stone.
31 ironbreakers
3X rune of sanctuary
full command

classification: ROCK HARD!

6 by 6 formation, double unit strength, 2 standard, +2 combat res from magic standards, stubborn on ld10 and immune to fear and terror. then you have the attacks from the lord and thanes. the breakers have 2+ armour saves in combat and MR3 overall.

mind you.. warmachine fire could hurt it

That unit will still be eaten alive by manouvre...And by a much cheaper unit..

But I agree, in a straight out fight, this unit would probably massacre anything it hit.

I don't have uber units. I have a balanced list geared towards close-range firepower and assault assisted by mobility. Each unit has a reasonable ability in all these realms, and together when my head's straight they work fairly well.

My Lord, however, does awesome things for his points.

Chaos Lord- Pair of Lightning Claws, Mark of Tzeentch, Disc of Tzeentch, 165 points. Maybe meltabombs, a personal icon, combi-bolter if I'm feeling generous.

He tore up like four hundred points of Chaos Termies and a few Berzerkers the last battle I played him, survived several powerfist wounds too, and does consistently well even with my sickeningly awful rolling and occasional poor generalship.

He's my only fully well-painted model too. Wonder if there's a connection...
