Well, today, I was breaking back out my airbrush, which my mother has lent me for while I'm over here, and started working with it. I noticed with great frustration that its rather inconsistent, not to mention not that precise in its spraying sometimes. I did a bit of researching, and I discovered that it's actually a CAKE DECORATING airbrush.
Ooops.
Well, at least those tanks and that vulture look pretty durned good! Though it won't do for the hardcore detailing I'm going to be doing....
But now that this has come to my attention, I require assistance: I need to pick out a good quality, but relatively inexpensive airbrush kit. Tough, ain't it? Anyone have any ideas?

i use a buddy of mine's air brush, it is great... it was about 170 for the brush and his compressor which is ridiculous was about 250... now his same model is much cheaper now if u want i can get specs for you

other than that, research it on google, very useful knowledge

I got a Paasche VL double Action Internal Mix for just over 60$ on ebay new in box. they retail for about 150 or so, and it's been a very solid airbrush so far. This is the kind of thing you find all the time cheap there, so I'd strongly recommend hitting up the major airbrush mfgrs sites and check out the model you want, then go hunting..

Remember though, the brush itself is only the first part of the equation. Depending on what you were using to supply the air, th results you were getting might be from the supply. If you're using a canned air supply, it's almost more likely that that's the problem.

Look into a good air compressor (i've ben told to get a moisture trap as well, though I don't have one yet) which will make all the difference in the world. I got mine from Home Depot as a damaged good out of a brad nailing set. it was 75$ (turns out they'd assembled the brad nailer wrong, it works just fine :) )

Big part of what I want is a rather small compressor; I'm low on space, and while this cake-decorating one looks like the bubbler on a fishtank (in fact, it likely is), its awesomely stowable. I'm using it anyway right now on my Tyranid wings, just because I think I can pull it off..but I want a good pro one that I can use when it comes time for me to airbrush the dragon onto my Vulture Gunship.
