Well, my first finished Cygnar mini, and it's the loveable Ironclad!
This fella was great fun to paint, though I kinda feel like I went a little low on the damage, as I just couldn't bring myself to screw up the blue or black too much...
The metallics were a blast to paint, to be honest, I just enjoyed pretty much everything about this model.
Looking forward to painting more Cygnarians, but time could be an issue...

Anyway, pics:

i really like this "less is more" approach Tom!

I'll have to post my centurion at some point.....

Yeah, well done! But I agree with Fransi; its way better to do too little battle damage, as compared to overdoing it. I think you added the perfect amount myself. Props to you!~

Yes, you will!
I'm really looking forward to painting mine, it's a beauty of a model...
And seems to work out a little better on the table, at least that's what I've found so far.

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone, much appreciated =)

I have about $100 US worth of Cygnar to paint... my first! *sigh* someday, once I'm moved in to the new house... maybe.

Nice job, T! I agree that less is more. A WD article on the subject once described too much battle damage as "abstract camouflage," and that's what I think of when I see it overdone.

I'm curious: What colors did you use? I'm mulling over whether to go traditional or do something different (glossy black, red, all metallic, I dunno).

I have to say, I wavered on colour *a lot*...
The Cygnaran blue PP paints their show models is waaaay to bright IMO, and really ruins some of them (I'm looking at you, Storm Blades).

In the end I was torn between doing a medium-light grey colour scheme, with dark blue as accents, or doing a very dark, black and blue scheme.
I'm happy with what I went for, in the end.

The black is VMC Black ( VMC169 ), with codex grey mixed in as highlights.

The blue is a base of VMC Dark Prussia Blue ( VMC050 ), mixed up to VMC Dark Blue (VMC053 ), with a tiny bit of VMC Sky Blue mixed in to do the final highlights ( VMC067 ).

The metallics are based Boltgun Metal, washed down with various mixes of Scorched Brown, VMC Dark Blue and VMC Black, with plenty of added VMC Glaze Medium. It was then worked back up by mixing Boltgun with Black, then adding in some Mithril Silver, and finally a little VMC Metallic Medium, for the final highlights (It's basically just pure 'sparkle', the shiny bits from metallic paints, with no 'colour' added. I like the final shine it adds on extreme edges).

The eyes were painted with VMC Red ( VMC029 ), worked up into Sunburst Yellow.

The Cygnus was painted up from Codex Grey, into Fortress Grey, then finally had a few VMC White highlights added (giving some nice depth), before I brightened the entire area with a coat of 50/50 VMC White/Matte Medium, which 'whitened' everything, whilst retaining some of the contrast from the highlights. I really enjoyed painting this, and it really blazes out from the model, showing my allegiance clearly!

All in all, great fun to paint.
I'm very much looking forward to my next 'jack, and am plowing though a unit of Sword Knights as I type...

Looking great... white is very smooth, and the blue with battle damage is excellent.

I like it! It's dark and gritty, which is cool to see since Cygnar usually are bright and shiny. Keep it up!

Very impressive! I really like the Warmachine models.. its too bad I cant afford to get into yet another game at the moment, because that would be the one.
