While watching Event Horizon (again; it's one of my favorite movies), it occurred to me that the other dimension mentioned in the movie is strikingly similar to the Warp. A dimension of pure chaos, filled with Daemonic entities that can corrupt the mind and possess entire spaceships.

It seems to me a very interesting bit of fluff to imagine that the events of the movie are, in fact, the foundation of humanities presence in the 40k universe - 37 millenia earlier. Has anyone else noticed this correlation? What do you think of it?

In all honesty, I just bought that movie the other day and was like "Damn, Sam Neill, you are a Chaos Cultist!"

As to your question, I think that the way it looked in the movie, that it kinda makes sense with the warp storms that supposedly surrounded earth until the time of the Great Crusade or whenever warp travel became possible. The fact that it didn't actually allow them to travel so much as just opened a door into the warp. I'm pretty sure that no one would try that mode of travel again for a while if Event Horizon was the standard outcome... So, yeah, I think it could fit.

I think it is best non-40K, 40K movie.
I had seen it when it came out in theaters and watched it again a few months back.
I was all suprised at how much that movie and seems like a imperial ship losing it's gellar field in the warp, and the hillarity that ensues.

I caught Event Horizon on TV and, yes, it's the basic idea. Combine that with the movie Aliens and rewrite the plot so it's Space Marines going in and...yeah, that's about right. Didn't like Event Horizon myself, however; horror isn't usually to my taste.

The thing that really caught my attention was the way that people were actually dragged into the portal. That was where I first started to feel like it was similar - the concept that inherently evil beings of great power live on the other side.

I think the idea is deffenetly crossed over in to movie and you mentioning it makes me think about it even more. Granted I never played 40k until long after seeing it I now have connected both ideas and I'll watch EH when I get home this morning. :)

I did like the true horror elements in it, i mean, it's pretty gruesome. To me it was the shining meets 2001.

i wish they would do something following the same idea, only more horror and less b-action and cheesy heroics.

But yeah, Event Horizon is very enjoyable, although the script is full of inconsistencies. And it very much feels like the ship is coming back from the Warp indeed, and Sam Neil ends up possessed.
