There have been a few rumours floating around the web with regards to the Lizardmen and I thought I would share.

General Rules

Spawnings remain but more units will be able to take them including kroxigors and skink units.

Special Characters

Lord Kroak
Kroq-Gar
Tehenhauin
Mazdamundi (Can ride a steggadon.)
Nakai the Wanderer
Oxayotl (model has been sighted for him a while back)
Ten Zlati the herald of Kroak (Is an upgrade for Kroak)
Lotl Botl (Champion upgrade for a skink unit)

Units

Temple Guard no longer to be 0-1 per slann any longer.
Saurus warriors to be about 2 points cheaper.
Saurus Cavalry to be about 4pts cheaper but limited to only one of four spawnings.

Enjoy

Hmm... I've been trying to decide on a new Fantasy army. Maybe if there are some super sweet new minis I'll have to give these guys a shot.

On a side note, I laugh at how I snap to attention every time I see a rumor thread started by JVK. His name seems to lend instant credibility to rumors. Lets hope he doesn't take advantage of this fact :sarcastic:

Sounds good man, a friend of mine is a big Lizzie player so I keep him up to date with the latest rumours, and I can trust you!

I heard the Slann was getting his own Lore on top of the 8 he can already use.

Yes, because they totally need it. :silly:

Finally! after all this waiting I can feast on the upcoming revamp. of my favourite army :). Though these are only rumours, I'm so totally digging these new changes.

So, when is this happy event? Is it coming out this summer somewhere?

that's something that has always bothered me. Slann are the most powerful magical creatures in the world and yet everyother race besides them has their own lore and not them. c'mon, we should have a lore that is above everyother race's lore and should be called Power of the Old Ones or something like that.

Jared van Kell
October 3rd, 2008, 14:46
I remember the days when Slann could use High Magic. It would be nice to see them using a more powerful lore of their own. You could use that lore or decide to pick from the 8 normal lores as usual. :act-up:

Like the sound of bringing Lotl Botl back into the Lizardmen book, and hopefully Mazdamundi gets a model this time.

Also like the sound of a Slann lore!

What I really don't like though is the reduction in points for Saurus. Don't get me wrong, they are overpriced, but I think they went in the wrong direction. If god's were to create a race of killing machines whose sole purpose was to wipe out other races, and many of these warriors have honed their skills over thousands of years, shouldn't they be well and truly the best core fighters in the game?

Saurus are GOOD, that's for sure. Great leadership with cold-blooded, 2 attacks at strength 4 etc. But are they good enough? What I'm basically referring to here, is their absolutely abysmal initiative. Shouldn't we be imagining them more like crocodiles? Maybe they're slow when they're lying around, but they should be lightning fast in combat - just an increase to I3 would work.

Overall I think the thing that would work best for lizzies in general is to make them more pointy - more feral. The skinks work well being cute and cuddly, but the Saurus are killers that hunt their enemies, not rank and file block troops. Some interesting new tactics would work for me.

Saurus need to be better (only slightly), and more expensive.

Off in another thread I read about Stegadons becoming available as mounts for characters. How cool would that be?

Also, do you guys suppose the LM cold ones will be updated a la Dark Elf cold ones?

Seeing as they're due for january of 2009, that works well for me since my birthday is in that month.

As for Saurus, I'd say this is the ideal basic stat line that I feel Saurus Warriors should get:

M-WS-BS--S--T--W--I--A--Ld
4---4---0---4--4--1--1--2---8
Cost: 9-10pts/model

It feels only fair, since Saurus were made entirely for warfare. You think they'd just use massed hordes of Skinks to win battles whereas you need more than skirmish parties to get things done? It does say in the current Lizardmen book that each Temple City, those that are still standing, has an army of Saurus prepared to do battle if their lands are threatened. Let's be honest; these guys were always prepared if conflict were to occur, and boy do they ever do their job.

As for everything else, sounds like some (if not all) of the expensive stuff is going to be noticeably cheaper. The rumour about more units able to take Spawnings is certainly a bigger bonus (I can just see it: Blitzkrieging Kroxigors with 3+ saves!).

I think there are lots of rumours floating around of the skinks, such as ranked skinks horned one riders, and a skink horned one rider hero

Pinkus

You can look at it two ways. One, they made a species that was big and bad and could kill anything, but cost a lot to make. Or two, they made a species small with lots of attacks that can just overwhelm an opponent and was cheap to make.

I think the current stat lines for saurus but making them 9-10 points is a great idea, but give them more options, like great weapons.

Yeah, definiately not happy with the new Kroxigor. If I decide to play Lizardmen, I'll be grabbing the old ones, thanks.

M-WS-BS--S--T--W--I--A--Ld
4---4---0---4--4--1--1--2---8
Cost: 9-10pts/model

The lower of your suggested points values is the same as the cost of a Dwarf with heavy armour and shield. However, the Saurus would has M4, A2 and S4 to the dwarfs M3, A1 and S3. Don't forget cold blooded (which is better then the Dwarfen LD9). The only thing the Dwarf would have over the Saurus is one points in armour.

This statline would be better priced at 11-12 points (probably 11 considering a dryad is 12 and has numerous advantages over the Saurus).

Agreed. The head looks a little too...blockish, perhaps. The body, however, looks good, in my opinion. It looks more muscular and massive than the current Kroxies, whom I always thought looked too long in the torso and too short in the leg.

I'll probably get the old ones, and chop off their heads and attach them to this new fella (i abhor metal models, i cannot for the life of me and every adhesive under the sun get them to stick (except greenstuff, that works pretty well as long as the joint doesn't hand downwards.

Sam51
October 8th, 2008, 12:42
I liked the head although ill agree it doesnt look as dynamic as the old models. However it looks far more brutal. I found the old ones a bit lanky
Plastic though :). Everytime I think i have managed to stick my metal models they fall apart on me.

Oxayotl is in the background

Lizardmen army book rumours

The book is supposedly out in febuary / march 2009. It is not known who is writing it.

New models:
- plastic Kroxigor (certain), unknown how many per box
- plastic Temple Guard (very likely), assume 10 per box if it happens
- plastic Stegadon (very likely), assume 1 per box with options
- some new metal models, including some characters

Blessed Spawnings
These seem to take on a bigger role in the list. It is not know how they will work, if taking them makes a unit more scarce or if it will be like Marks of Chaos in that it's just an upgrade and doesn't change if a unit is Core, Special or Rare.

Spawning of Huanchi: +1 WS and move through cover with no penalty
Spawning of Sotek:
Spawning of Chotec:
Spawning of Quetzl:
Spawning of Tlazcotl:
Spawning of Tepok:

Army-wide special rule - Cold-blooded
Apparently this stays like it is, though some rumours say that Leadership values will be going down for many units.

Lords

Slann

Saurus Oldblood

Heroes

Saurus Scar-Veteran

Skink Chief

Skink Priest

Character mounts
Stegadon (doesn't count towards the number of Special choices)
...

Core
There is much speculation on whether there will be additional core units (ranked skinks or skink fast cavalry)

Saurus Warriors
- 2 pts cheaper

Skink Skirmishers
- can get Spawnings

Temple Guard
- cheaper(?)
- can get Spawnings

Jungle Swarms

Special

Saurus Cavalry
- 4 pts cheaper
- can get Spawnings

Kroxigor
- new set of plastic models
- can get Spawnings

Stegadon
- moved from Rare to Special

Terradons
- new models?

Cameleon Skinks

Rare

Engine of the Gods
- basically a weaker Stegadon with a stone thrower-type weapon on top
- rules in the Lustria book, but no official model until now
- often rumoured to be making an appearance
- presumably the plastic Stegadon kit will include parts for an Engine of the Gods

Salamanders
- presumably have to roll to hit, though will probably get altered more than just that

Other types of units have been rumoured, but nothing definite

Rumoured rules
Often talked about are:
- Spawnings becoming more widespread and available to more units (like in the Sacred Spawning variant lists)
- Ranked Skink units (like in the Lustria book) and possibly with Kroxigors added (like in 5th edition)
- Skink Horned One Riders (like in the Lustria book)
- a separate Lore for Slann
- more mount options for Skink characters (like in 5th edition)

Lizardmen army book rumours - WarSeer (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128514)

Xthol: 5+ ward, in addition, If:
For units: they use this mark during the battle phase, then they can choose only one Save "Scaly skin or this"
For characters: If they cannot save a wound, then the unit that attacks the character with this mark take S4 hit on a D6
Limited to; Saurus Warriors, Temple guards, Skinks (skirmesher/cohorts) and Saurus Calvary.

Tzunki: +1 I in addition, If:
For units: They become aquatic and doesn't suffer any penelty for walking on water.
For characters: They become aquatic and have First strike rules (possible, not sure.)
Limited to; Saurus Warriors, Temple guards, Skinks (skirmesher), and Kroxigors.

Huanchi: +1 WS
Limited to; Saurus Warriors, Temple guards, Skinks (skirmesher/cohorts), Saurus Calvary, and Kroxigors.
Note: you cannot take up the same blessed mark in the same unit.

Ruling of how blessed mark is taken:
Not all units can they up to two, for some they can up to one (i.e Saurus Calvary) while other can take up to three (unknown). If they take one, they stay as core/special. If they take up two, they move to special/rare.

here are some more rumours

I would love to see some love for the skink chief.

I'm not sure on the current green stage of Oxayotl, he looks more stiff than agile. That's from this angle anyway, but I'm still glad he's coming back and, Mazamundi. That's without the supremely awesome look of an armoured Kroxigor; Nakai

Love the new kroxigors. I absolutely hated the older models. Looked snakey and weak with poorly modelled teeth. I had been sticking to the old 5th ed models (alot beefier and less silly looking) but I will happily switch to the new ones.

As for the rest of the changes, save for the spawnings and engine of the gods it feels alot more like my old 5th edition list. Back when skink heroe's mounted on terradons with the black gem of gnar where the bane of uber characters everywhere, and the mixed skink/kroxigor unit was one of the best ranked units in the game.

Recently heared some rumours from guys in the GW design studio;

6 variations of the steg possible all from the same box, and think 40k rhino/preaditor size.

Special character "Tic Tac Toe", a skink on terradon hero.
A saurus hero/lord who licks toads and rolls to get special abilities but a low roll= bad affect representing a come down from his toad drug high, goes by the name of "Choqual" or somthing similar.

Kroxigors are going back into skin units as an option, (and are new metal models, the one pictured is a resin first cast by all acounts).

Oooo...and skinks stay the same...but +1ld to what they have now!!!

Set to be a two wave release as gw are going back to add models to already released armies such as no less than 4 new dreadlord models, including at least one female variant for dark elves.

As i say these are pretty reliable and some of the over things like the big spinodon have already been mentioned in other posts, sorry if these turn out to be rubbish but im pretty sure on them.

Better to share either way,

I found this on warseer abit of a update it seems. I know some this might been ready posted but anyways.

Lords

Slann
- speculated to get a spell lore of their own

Saurus Oldblood
- may be mounted on a Stegadon

Heroes

Saurus Scar-Veteran
- may be mounted on a Stegadon

Skink Chief
- may be mounted on a Stegadon

Skink Priest
- may be mounted on an Engine of the Gods

Character mounts

Engine of the Gods (Skink Priest only)
- if it is anything like it was in the Lustria book it is a weaker Stegadon with a war machine-like weapon on top
- takes up an additional Hero choice

Stegadon
- any(?) character may ride a Stegadon
- takes up an additional Hero choice

Core
There is much speculation on whether there will be additional core units (ranked skinks or skink fast cavalry), though nothing confirmed

Saurus Warriors
- 1 or 2 pts cheaper
- scaly skin save is rumoured to be going back to 5+, like it was in 5th edition

Skink Skirmishers
- can get Spawnings

Temple Guard
- cheaper
- can get Spawnings

Jungle Swarms

Special

Saurus Cavalry
- 4 pts cheaper
- can get Spawnings

Kroxigor
- new set of metal models (was rumoured to be plastic, but that appears to have been wrong)
- get light armour in addition to their scaly skin
- can get Spawnings

Stegadon
- new plastic model
- moved from Rare to Special

Terradons
- new (metal) models

Cameleon Skinks

Salamander Hunting Packs
- moved from Rare to Special
- now use the breath weapon template instead of the artillery dice
- stats of the attack not known
- not known whether you can still form units of more than one pack (having a monsters and handlers unit with multiple monsters is a bit tricky ruleswise) or if you might, say, get 1-2 independant packs per Special unit

Rare

Ancient Stegadon
- somewhat altered stats compared to the regular Steggy
- has a different weapon than the bolt thrower the normal Steggy has

Barbed Razordon Hunting Party
- a new kind of dinosaur unit, also herded by skinks
- fires spikes that has a number of shots equal to the roll on an artillery dice, that roll to his using BS 4, not known if it ingores any of the normal to-hit modifiers
- when standing and shooting it gets two artillery dice worth of shots

Special characters

Lord Kroak (Slann)

Kroq-Gar (Saurus Lord)

Nakai the Wanderer (Kroxigor Hero(?))

Tenehauin (Skink Lord/Hero)

Tiktaq'To, Master of Skies (some kind of Skink on Terradon?)

Chakax, Eternity Warden (some kind of Saurus Temple Guard character?)

2 more unknown characters.

Thanks for that, any idea whether or not the steggy mount takes up a special, if not, it's 8 steggy time!
(engine, priest, oldblood/scar-vet, steggy, 4 special steggies, 2 ancient steggies)

Morden

Quoted from LooseMoose

The Arcanadon is gone, the Engine of the Gods is mounted on a Stegadon and is a mount choice for a skink priest; taking up an additional hero choice. The ancient stegadon is a rare choice with slightly different stats to reflect it's name and a different ranged weapon. The current stegadon is then moved to specials. All 3 will be available as a plastickit in one box. Bargain.

Tho just a rumour it will highly be a hero choice for the mount to so no 8 steggies for you but perhaps 6 instead

But... but... What about the Carnosaur?! It is far more awesome than the Stegadon ever will be!

very_original

I can take 4 stegadons normally, I can take two stegadons from heroes (probably one engine for magic defence, but tepok always helps) and two rare choice ancient stegadons, that seems to be 8 but I might have missed something, please tell me I can have my 8 steggy list. And I mean 2000 points BTW.
