Got two new tanks on the go; an IG Baneblade and a Renegade Chimera. The Chimera conversion was thought up by 'Bungaroo' over on Warseer.

They are straight out of the box; the Chimera was chopped a bit following a design by a bloke on Warseer and the BB has some resin bits added to increase the size of the turret, plus a few extra bits.

These are amazing, I love your painting too on previous projects.

Hi Leech, the turret on the Chimera is just a FW autocannon turret with a bit from the Chaos vehicle accessory sprue stuck on the end. Origionally I was going to paint this as an IG version, but it looks somewhat different from all the others (other than the turret) so I thought I'd turn it to the dark side.
The parts that are black will end up metalic.

Wow, as usual these look great, was gonna comment on Warseer, but couldn't be bothered remembering my password :P Once again, great job.

I must say these are truly astounding, the work here is what i'm still aspiring to achieve after over a decade of painting but my patience wears out and i turn my stuff into a quick and dirty style paint job!

Some good painting there, although i think the Chimera still looks too Imp, im guessing you'll be improving it further?

I might stick a couple of extra spikes on it, but I like the idea of it just being an ex IG IFV thats being used by a renegade unit.

Going to do the tracks next; then distress the paint with a lot of wear and tears, chips and scratches etc; then some weathering and mud.

I'm about halfway through doing the chipped paint look to match the first BB, the turret and weapon systems are done the hull just has the outlines. Then finish the tracks, add rust, mud and general grimness.

Other than a bit of oil paint to simulate spilt fuel and possibly a bit more grime, the barrel is pretty much done.
The idea of using a contrasting colour for the outline to the paint chips was to help them hold their own visually and not just vanish into the paint scheme. All have been given a thin wash of Vallejo 'red leather', to simulate a bit of rust, over the oxodised metal colour of the chips. Areas of heavy wear such as ladders and the edge of hatches have a slightly more metalic look.
With regard to making them blend in more, I think, if I were to knock them back anymore it will pretty much make the effect of wear & tear disappear. As it is in the last pictures they are rather hard to see.

The overall feel for this has been somewhat governed by the other tanks, that have already finished, in order to attempt a feeling of continuity.

Once it's finished I'll take some proper pictures, without the horrid flash. Should hopefully look better then.

See, i'm not sure what you did (if it's photography, or the filters) but on the completed pics i find the battle damage is much less pronounced and so much nicer :)

No rule states that you have to use thumbnails, and honestly I personally prefer pictures posted without thumbnails. You should assume that there are going to be pictures and plan the load time accordingly.

Looks great, Ash, as usual. And also as usual, my only gripe is with your colour scheme; I believe I mentioned it to you before, but you also paint in the same general colour scheme no matter the army you are painting, and I'd like to see a bit more colour. You are extremely skilled, but I haven't seem too much variety.

king88mob: Cheers mate, glad you like it. By battle damage do you mean the busted up front track guard or the all over scrapped up paint?
On the photo side; all the WIP pix were taken with flash, whereas the last ones were with diffused tungsten. It's a much softer light so the contrast is somewhat reduced.
I like the idea of a display board, just not having to find somewhere to house it, that said I'm planning on making some terrain boards as an on going project next year.

Kosmon: The mud is mainly sand and PVA mixed with some paint (great for covering dodgy joins and missed mould lines). Over that I painted a mix of MIG pigments and acrylic resin (gives a fairly wet look). Finally a fairly liberal dusting of pigments fixed with white spirit.

CBrate: Sorry to hear you have connectivity problems. Bear in mind a painting forum is going to be a fairly picture heavy environment. I'm afraid there are a few more detail shots to come.

In my defence I was trying to make it look like the others and not being able to get hold of the same colour tamiya sprays didn't help. The thing with all my different IG units is they are all supposed to be parts of the same army. So far I only have two armies Imperial and Chaos; one is dirty, grim and dark, the other dark, grim and dirty!

The colour shift between the two isn't too bad. The sand colour on the first one is just a bit of a warmer tone.

must be the flash then. I was referring to the paint chipping. I posted earlier in the thread that I twas a little too stark a contrast, but in these photos it's very subtle and really expertly executed.

Completely aside, but have you tried the salt masking technique for chips and such? I've had reasonable success with it but i'd love to hear your thoughts.

wow...so how long did this whole tank take you to finish to this standard?

The spraying hardly takes any time at all. The most time consuming bit was probably the paint chips.
Total time; I'm not sure. I think a couple of hours an evening for a couple of weeks.
