Hey guys, ive noticed lately that when i base coat something in chaos black spray, after it dries there seems to be some kind of white dusty substance all over the model. It goes away on contact with any moisture, even if i breathe on it, but then comes back after a while. It happened before a small amount but i just sprayed a rhino and squad of chaos marines, and they all have this stuff on them.

Whats causing this and what can i do to stop it? Will i just have to go over everything again with a watered down coat of chaos black?

i think it may be down to not shaking it enough, also it happens when the can is cold too try puting the can in some warm water (NOT BOILING) untill it gets to about room temperature this also helps thin the spray out too.

called "misting", there are three general things that can cause this:

Wrong working temperature, keep the paint at room temp. never leave the can outside in the freezing cold f.o.i.

Not shaken thoroughly enough.
You should shake for at least a full minute After the ball inside has started to rattle.

Wrong spraying distance. (too far away)
spraying in windy conditions also does this.

However, the paint doesnt turn "white" per se, it does get coarse and dusty, and will probably rub off when you touch it.



However, Never , ever rapidly heat up an aerosol can under any circumstances!!!
There is a danger, even if the propellant is just air.

If you need to get the temp up a bit, leave the can somewhere roomtemperatured and just wait.

Yeah im pretty sure i failed on all three accounts. :/

At least i know its not just me and know what to do to prevent it now, thanks a mil! Might just go over them now for a light coat after warming it up a bit and not spraying from a mile away. :p

It's probably best to just strip it all off and start again, it's horribly hard to ignore in my experience.
