View Full Version : Painting faces - but hands giving problems too

Here's my first attempt at really painting skin. On my earlier test model I kinda rushed the skin, and I felt it let the model down - and so I've not progressed with my other models yet [for those wondering the fatigues were a test-scheme for Desert Guard, before I decided on a woodland theme].

How do you think this skin is looking?

It's painted:

Dark Flesh
Tanned Flesh
Chestnut Ink wash
Dwarf Flesh
Elf Flesh

I feel it still looks a bit 'pasty' - is this due to me having over-used the Elf Flesh (on reflection I think maybe I should have done 'edge-highlight' style highlights with the Elf Flesh, not painting large sections of the skin). If this is the case, how does one paint the hands without them looking 'tiger-striped' or like the man has some sort of disease?

Any tips to improve the skin would be really appreciated. I apologise for the quality of Pic3, my camera didn't like the hand for some reason, and also I can't get the first pic the right way round - sorted it in Photobucket, but when posting it just doesn't want to put it right!)

They look good.
I probably would have mixed GW Flesh Wash with the Chestnut ink to add a little more depth to the hands and cheeks.
Other than that, I'm impressed.

Very nice... although you use 2 (maybe 3) of the colors that are discontinued... The Dark Flesh and the Chestnut Ink for sure...

I like the skin very much!

It's fine for Guard. Goodness know how many more of them you're going to have to do.
