I'm starting an imperial fists army. Here is the test model. This was one of the battle for black reach models. I am using this model to test my paint scheme. It is only partially finished. Tell me what you think.
Only the head and part of the shoulder pads are finished.

I do like the yellow, I think that is well done. The red could possibly do with another highlight just to bring it out a shade. Other than that I think you're on to a winner here. Can't wait to see his lower half! ...Dude, cannot believe I said that O.o hehe

Are you going over a black undercoat? It looks like you are and you're getting quite thick coats of yellow as a result. Can I suggest experimenting with thin coats of foundation yellow over a white undercoat, a wash of mud or sepia and then a bright yellow highlight/top coat?
I think it'll give you a bright yellow with thin coats and less effort.
Looks good otherwise!

Thanks for replying guys. I was mostly asking about how the yellow looks. glad you like it black adder. I'm having a bit of trouble with the red however, and i was wondering if anyone had some tips on painting banding.
Unfortunately, since i dont plan on using this model in my army(I'm using conversions that incorperate special imperial fist shoulder pads/ backpacks) I wont be painting the lower half... sorry black adder.
I think im getting better at painting smoother, But may have gone a bit thick, at least w/ the first coat of foundation darksun. Any suggestions on paint/ water ratio, mr. paint monkey.
What if I add some white to the darksun? do you think that might make it so i will be able to get the same brightness with less/ thinner coats. Its just i preffer to use black undercoat. also, what brown should i use for the wash. or maybe an ink. whats a good ink/ water ratio for washes.
Also just a rather general question: do you guys think i should leave the black in some places, such as say arm/ knee pads and on the Imperial fist heraldry(for the models w/ special shoulder pads.).
Anyway, hopefully I can perfect my paint scheme before i get my "real marines" in the mail tomorrow. So any advice to do this would be great.

Looks like you're shading with pure chaos black - pick up some Washes and give them a go, they shade really well. Gryphonne Sepia is great for adding depth to yellow and Badab Black and Devlan Mud are essentials, really :) Other than that, nice yellow, if a bit thick.
