Hello all

I'm pretty new to painting and 40k in general. I've decided to paint my eldar in the saim-hann color scheme. I'm having a problem though. What I assumed would be blood red as the last coat of paint for the nice bright red of the saim-hann color scheme aprently is not. The few guardians I did came out looking more orange than red! I used a red gore under coat with blood red on top. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to mix a color with blood red first? My model doesnt look anything like the red in the book.

Blood Red is naturally an orangish color... Gore and Scab Red are closer in nature to a pure red color, although they're a bit on the dark side. However, if you want a good red basecoat, start of with Mechrite Red from the Foundation Paint sets. (white caps)

Now, that said, you're still on the right track. I've never done the Saim-hann color schemes myself, so maybe another can comment, but if you've got a Blood Red coat on there that's a little too bright, consider hitting it with the Baal Red wash. The wash will darken the pigment of your overcoat (staining), and fill in the cracks of the surrounding areas with a nice deep red color.

This may not be the answer you're looking for, but it's something you should experiment with. :)

It also depends on the colours underneath the coat of blood red. When done off a white undercoat it will look brighter and sharper, and less orange, than if it was done off a black coat and subsequent darker shades of red.
Alternatively, try and get your hands on some red ink and give the models a quick, light wash of this. This will strengthen the red and give a glossier look to the model.

yust remeber to dillute the ink before applying it on the model, a 1:4 mix of ink:water should bee good

I went back over the model with some deep hue cadium red liquitex paint I watered down and it looks marvelous! Thanks for the help all.
