Hi I just bought Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning and I simply got interested into playing the real Warhammer.

I have a few questions to ask though.

1) Can you play Warhammer with Warhammer 40,000 units? Why or why not?

2) Why are there two kinds, Warhammer and Warhammer 40k? What's the difference between them?

3) Which one is better? Warhammer or Warhammer 40k and why?

one is in the future fantasy the other is medieval fantasy but they are pretty much the same.

this realy just depends on you i like fantasy more but ive only been playing it for a short time every body likes ether one for there own reasons.

40K by a long shot. You get spaceships, big guns, and big tanks.

As a game I prefer WHFB, since you have to think more. 40K is more geared to getting the first turn, and list building.

cool! i guess i'll start getting into 40k then. i've never bought a warhammer miniature figure before. never really got into it, but it somewhat interests me. those orks are pretty cool looking so yeah.

And truthlly there is no best game both are competlely different games and I enjoy them both but i to favour warhammer fantasy having loads of lined up regiments of men and knights is just a awesome site to see and There rule system i am more familiar with having played it for 10 years and Just starting 40k lately to so well see how far ill go there.

Also, while 40k has some similar lines of backstory (chaos gods, or(k)s, etc.), it follows a fairly different set of fluff. If you are interested in Warhammer Online, the natural choice would be to go with Warhammer Fantasy (WHFB). That is my preferred game. As others have said, it brings more tactics into play, and has a little less to do with I roll dice, you remove models, you roll dice, I remove models, though it is still a factor. Either way you will get to know/love/hate/fear/adore the dice gods.

On the other hand, it appears that 40k is, in general, more popular, so if that is one of your major concerns, go for it.

Of course you could go for a demon army and mount them on the round bases. Then you can use it for 40k or stick them on movement trays for fantasy. Other armies are more difficult to transfer.

Here's a good tip: Don't start buying miniatures at once. Try out the game/s first. Borrow someone else's miniatures; either from a friend or at a local gaming club. Or else, just use tokens to play with. My friends and I frequently used paper circles, representing the base, and wrote "ORK BOY" on top.

The thing is, Warhammer is a really expensive hobby, and you might find after a while that you don't like it. It's a pretty compicated game, with tons of rules, and a single game often last for a whole day - so it's not like playing a few games of chess, or spending a few hours playing WoW. So don't use up all your savings unless you're sure you want to!

If you find that you do like the game, I recommend that you take your time and really decide on which race you want to collect. Then stick to that race, until you have a complete army. It really sucks having 1/4 Chaos Warrior Army and then finding out that you really want to play Dark Elves, knowing you've spent all that money in vain.

Agree - pick an army to empathise with, and depending on which aspect you are interested in, you should love the models, the paint scheme or the background, or better yet, all three. I collect High Elves, because I empathise with the Elvish way of doing things, and I love the light and bright High Elf colour schemes. Finally, I enjoy the background of the Elven race, an empire in decline, but still possibly to most powerful nation in the Warhammer world if they decided to deploy all their armies in one go.

ya, each game last 1-3 hours (thse are just short to medium length game's) but i love warhammer 40k, but i agree with them, try it out b4 u buy any minuture's. your local game store/ gamesworkshop will lend u a army u can use for a day if u ask. when i first started that's what i did!:beer:

The rules for Warhammer and Warhammer Fantasy are incompatible and shouldn't really be used against each other. Head down to your local GW and say hi - they're usually friendly and will help you get into the game.
