I Have been doing games workshop games for a while now but for the first year or so i had no idea what necromunda or epic even was, I want to know if any of you are trying to keep these specialist games running in your store and what you think on the fact that hardly anyone plays these games.

we get a bunch of people that play blood bowl currently (the season coinciding with the football season). don't have that many that play the other specialist games, none who actually bring their stuff into the store, but there's always a mention of it from time to time and other people expressing interest in learning to play them.
battlefleet gothic would probably be the prominent of these at our store, but that's also due to an ongoing 40k campaign with open sign-up that involves moving fleets from planet to planet throughout a sector map of imperial space (taken from dark heresy).
i, for one, would love to start an imperial fleet. i like the models and the idea of exchanging broadside volleys.

Had Space Hulk, that was a great game
Played Gorkamorka for a summer. Had a good laug
Tried to play Gothic once, but neither of the players had much idea of the rules so it wasn't great.
Played Mordenheim for a summer, was not as much fun as Gorkamorka
Played 2 games of Necromunda. Its a good game and I hope to get a few more games soon.
Never played Bloodbowl, but it could be a laugh with a proper league going.

Epic is great - it is a really tactical game vs. the suad-bash that is 40K.

And man O'War is an excellent game, though a big fleet takes up a little too much table-room :-)

As for Blood Bowl - great game, excellent rules, the fact it can be played over the course of an hour or two max is a great plus point...

I would have to say in the last 4 years I have played more BFG, epic, bombers over the sulfur river and space hulk (first ed) then current GW games. In fact I probably only played one game under 4th edition rules. I wouldn't say they are forgotten games GW just doesn't support them in the hobby stores any more

There was a pretty popular Mordheim League here last year. GW then (as much as we know) decided to stick it to independent retailers and stop giving trade prices on Specialist/DirectOnly minis, so of course the stores stopped promoting it. Thanks GW!

At my local games club we play:

Epic Armageddon
Lord of the Rings
Blood Bowl
Battlefleet Gothic
Necromunda
GorkaMorka
Warhammer Quest
Inquisitor
Space Hulk

I've not seen Warmaster or Mordheim played, but that doesn't mean they haven't been. So, at least in my area, a large number of people play Specialist Games a lot of the time. Most of them are better games than 40k (in its current form GW's least tactical and most abusable game, IMO), and some are better than WFB (a great system, but recent army books - hello Demons - are somewhat beardy-able).

I find out yesterday that my club has a complete copy of the Rouge Trooper game!
It's almost as old as me! I really wanna try that out. I love blue people.

Lol - my store manager indicated on Saturday there might be call to do a "Horus Heresy " and "Battle for Armageddon" battle using the card counter board games in the none-too-distant..Fortunately I have both boxed and complete, so am quite happy :-)
I loved those old games, though I hear Doom of the Eldar was the best one, but I never got around to playing it.

Man O'War. It's a really good game, I have a pirate fleet (Empire rules, just painted differently). I remember playing it in my local GW (Leeds, UK)... we had a big crowd watching just to find out what the hell we were playing.

Man O War is a fantastic game- probably my favourite GW game of all time. They really should bring it back as a specialist game.

Ive never played the 'modern' version of Epic but back in the mid-90s it was arguably more popular than 40k, and rightly so because it was awesome, whereas the older versions of 40k were a bit...fiddly...to say the least. Ive still got a couple of Epic armies and one day ill rejig them in line with the newer ruleset and give it a bash- I have some Ork gargants eager for a fight!

I loved Space Marine/Adeptus Titanicus, and have a Titan Legion to prove it ;-)

Woudl ove to beat up those gargants of yours, though I doubt I'll be in Chester any time soon...
