...as nobody will see it. (Edit: Turned out I was wrong...)
Hi all of you who found this post!
Just wondering about the interest (or lack thereof) in Aeronautica?
To me it seems like a really cool idea (being a aeroplane junkie irl) but the game dosen't seem to be to popular amongst the general WH players...

Im very interested in the game, but there are two things stopping me
1 is the price of those forgeworld models, and rulebooks.
2 is trying to convince others to also pay these prices, so i have someone to actually play against.
Has anyone had any experience with the game?

I had my first game yesterday!
Begged a friend of mine to try it*. I had bought two Imperial Thunderbolts and two Eldar Phoenixes (sp?) just too see witch I might like the best modelwise, so it was just a quick clash between two CAPs but it was fun!
In fact so fun that my friend ordered his own Eldar aircrafts the same evening...
The price dosen't bug me that much. Ok, I admit they are expensive, but you really don't need that many models. I also bought the books in the "two pack", making them a little less expensive...
* I've tried (and failed) to get him into Warhammer for years and with AI I finally made it...

Sounds good then, how long did it take for that small game?

Don't know, to be honest. We didn't keep track of time, but I guess 30-45 minutes, maybe...

I've played the game, and to entirely honest: I love it. It's one of the most in depth, and tactically stressful games I've ever played, bar none. A few guys at the local shop are BFG fanatics, and we decided to give AI a shot. We played several games and decided that the best way to go about collecting is base all purchases on 2-3 craft at a time.
2 Craft makes a challenging game with similar time runs as a Skirmish game
4 Craft gives you a decent length battle, about an hour or two when we played
we once played a game where each player brought out a 'squad' of 3 planes, and we played 2 on 2, for 6 craft total. It was a great game, and it really shows how hectic air combat can be. Price is a HUGE factor though. We said to heck with it and used subsitutes from the 'Crimson Skies' tabletop game.

What, you did a false start playing the game? Darn.
Will have to look into some Orky fightaz to dakka you out of the skies during christmas man.
Prepare for big gunz.

I did indeed... But it resulted in a new soul to join the game, so now we can also have some Eldar for target practise. Hehe... :sinister:
In fact, my T-bolt squadron leader, let's call him Red-1, scored his first kill this evening and saved the day!
That makes it 1-1 in games played so far.

Yeay!
Today the reinforcements did arrive!
2xThunderbolts
2xLightnings
2xArvus
1xMarauder Destroyer
Any suggestions of what to get next?
And to Dire Avenger - Aircrafts are like Space Marines, you can't get to many...

Seems like a nice little forum (I registred immediatly).
Now let us convince the rest of the WH40K nerds to start playing Aeronautica!

Greetings!
Today (Dec.21st) Dire Avenger had his first game of IA. And he shot me out of the skies...
No specific scenario, just an old fashioned dogfight, 3 T-bolts vs. 2 Fightas and 2 Fighta-bommas.
It all started well with me shooting down one of the Fighta-bommas on the first attempt, but then things just went down (literally). Nonetheless, it was an even and enjoyable match and I'm looking forward to a rematch soon to get my revenge...
Congratulations to You, Dire!

Dakka dakka dakka dakka waaaaaaaaaagh!
That's a really fun game, thanks yourself. Can't wait for the rematch. Will have to assemble my Bomma and flak wagons as well.

Fought a rematch today and got beaten, again.... But like last time, a very even game.
Tried my Lightnings for the first time and I liked them (= more of those). With more or less the same firepower per point, the T-bolts have to work hard to justify themselfs. Any thougths/tips?
(Well, to be honest todays K/D ratio looked like this: T-bolt - 1/1, Flash - 1/2, so the T-bolts did a better job...)
Throttle up and reach for the sky! Aeronautica is fun!

And I found out that Fighta Bommas make pretty good fightas.. Rear facing big shootas is definitely a bonus.
Also, Lightnings with skystrike missiles are pretty good. I guess T-bolts have the edge at medium range with their autocannons?
Orks are pretty much about up close and personal, the way I like it.
Hmm, how about those underwing quad big shootas weapons load, for a 16 shots at short range?

Fought the pesky Eldar today and won! (Their 5+ save is a real PITA...)
I'm beginning to think that Lightnings is the way to go against them.
Yet again a very close game. (Makes me wonder what I've done wrong when playing 40k)

Another day, another game. Once more against the Eldar.
Ended 108-104 to my favor, so yet again a very close game.
I praise Red I - leader of my T-bolt squadron, for his daring move to make a half loop and his skill to make a wing over to get lined up to deal out the final blow to the objective on the ground. Without this display of skill and courage, I would have lost...

And this is how small the Eldar Phoenix is, compared to a 40k scale Wave Serpent...
The Phoenix is mounted on a clear base for photo only.

have you guys thought about incorperating them into your 40K games i.e. you fight for air supremicy then whoever owns the skys can get lets say a bombing run or someting 5" blast and whatever str and ap is needed for a correct representation

I have to agree. Those Fighta Bommas are a real PITA, especially at close range. (And me constantly misjudging my movements, putting me way too close for comfort...)
Also the Blasta Bomma, a really nasty thing with guns pointing in every direction.
Fortunately, being a bomber, it's quite predictable in it's movment.

Yeah, Fighta Bommas are fun, and probably the best Ork airplane around.
Nothing beats flying in a blasta bomma straight through, guns blazing port and stern, like a 18th century battleship! :act-up:
Currently painting up my fightas, will try to post some pics when they're done. Man, painting checkers that small isn't easy!

And again...
Got to fly against Dire Avenger's orks (Mission: Clash of Aces) yesterday, in yet another close fought game.
I lost this time (VP 40/46) but can comfort myself by knowing I shot down his ace first...
The lesson (hopefully) learned this time is:
1: Try not to get that damn close to the orks. The T-bolt work best at medium and long distance (with Skystrikes)
2: Do not perform a wing over or half loop manouver in front of the enemy, not realizing they've slowed down and thus putting yourself in a perfect position to get shot down...
Edit:
Late Monday game: Threeway game against DA (orks) and another friend of us, playing eldar.
I did my biggest mistake so far in my AI career...
I was zooming around at maximum altitude, feeling very confident to end my manouvers behind an eldar Vampire. Just one litte thing went wrong. Feeling cocky, I thought I knew the manouver cards like the back of my hand, choosing card no:7 (insted of no:8 ) for both my T-bolts. Mistake, biiiig mistake... The T-bolts went up instead of down and was removed from play.
Lesson learned: 7 is up, 8 is down. 7 up, 8 down, 7 up, 8 down...
(To my defence: I did manage to down a Nightwing before I screwed up...)

@Dire Avenger:
How are you making good use of Grot Bombs, should you use them?
I tried a rather (too) large game with them against IN once, and the whole field was LITTERED with Grot Bombs.

I take the liberty to answer this: He doesn't [use grot bombs]
But I keep pushing him into buying some of that shit on a stick...
