View Full Version : Anyone else excited?

I was recently going through by drawer of army books and picked up my Beasts book. I haven't gone over it in a long time, and I remembered how much I love playing them. They really are a unique army that are tons of fun to play.

So, is anyone else excited about the upcoming army book? I know I am, but I'm also somewhat worried. I really love the old book. It gives the army a wonderful feel, and I really hope they can preserve that.

Ah, looking over that book made me all nostalgic. I'm going to go have a game with them!

I've heard rumors that the army's getting a major overhaul, at least as to models, and perhaps units. One person I talked to said something about them losing many of the monsters that showed up in the WoC book and that they'd get new replacement units. I find that hard to believe myself, but it'd be cool to see them get redone like Wood Elves were redone. Really cool models, great rules, fun to play.

I Could possibly see them loosing Dragon Ogres.

GW is trying to give the deamons/mortals/beasts there own lists, backgrounds and to improve the imagry and background depth to where the armies have come from.

I think GW is going to concentrate more on the Drakwald. Dragon Ogres being from the mountains in the North they might go :S

Beasts of chaos are a constant threat in the Old World, so I really hope they give more in-depth look into the different types of Beastmen, like Ungor, Gor, wargor and Minotaurs and even develop them further.

Trolls come from Troll Country and Ogres and Dragon Ogres come from the Northern Wastes. So it's logical that they get excluded. WoC lost the Daemons.

I'm excited, Beasts of chaos has always seemed quite warhammery, more than some armies. Some of the first models I saw were GW minotaurs, still got them infact, so It would definately be an army I would start collecting.

I'm very excited. I plan to make the BoC my second army, alongside WoC. I'll be the local scion of Chaos in my neck of the woods.

I recently read on WarSeer that many of the BoC/WoC monsters are no longer available for restock at hobby stores, which usually indicates the minis are getting an overhaul. This includes Chaos Trolls, Dragon Ogres (thank God), Chaos Ogres (thank goodness) as well as Minotaurs (yay!) and a few others. This leads most to believe that all are being re-done for the upcoming launch of BoC.

We can only hope. I love the overlap in WoC/BoC, it's one of the reasons I'm considering the Beasts as my next project. That, and I've always loved the models, Ambush and skirmishing madness in general.

Dragon Ogres have been order only for a very long time, and Chaos Ogres only just recently. But Chaos trolls and Minotaurs are still available to grab at the stores. And I wouldn't believe everything you read on Warseer.

Im excited :D

Ive had BoC models for quite a while, always wanted to play them but I've been put off by people saying they are no good at the moment. But I love the fluff and idea of them.
So I dug out what I have after reading this thread and hoping for a revamp soon, and started painting some :D
SMall point games wil be cool enough for me. NO minotaurs until hopefully the plastics come out =]

As stated already, BoC are really a big part of warhammer and i really hope they get the attention they deserve :)

Oh god let them remake the Dragon ogres. The background is awesome. the rules are dirty and the art work for them is cool! then you go to buy some, pick up the model and go "oh......" and put them back on the shelf. Rubbish.

Ah am thinking about crossing to the beasts as well. Just a small 1500pt army to add onto one of my Warrior armies. Am thinking about just doing beastmen. lots and lots of beastmen. No minotaurs, no hounds. Just beastmen. Shall be seen if i can be bothered to paint that much brown....... Well alright maybe some minotaurs if they remake them.

Book wont be out for a while tho. Next year? Might even be enough time to finish my chaos army.
HA!

According to rumours over at Herdstone it looks like the following changes are occuring in terms of units:
Characters:
+ Demon Prince
+ Centigor Hero (maybe a special character, though0.
No news of a Minotaur hero

Core:
Chariots move to special at 2 for 1.
Centigors move to core and become fast cavalry.

Special:
-Trolls
+Chosen Bestigors
Ogres get bull charge.

Rare:
-Dragon Ogres
-Shaggoth
+ Catapult
+ mobile herdstone (like an anvil)

If this is true, then I'm excited about core and characters, meh about special (chosen bestigors is boring as anything), and unhappy about rare (who needs a war machine in a CC army with troops all around the enemy? I want a big terrorfying monster!). So overall, I'm excited about the new codex.

I hear that. I love the idea of them, but I simply cannot tolerate the current minis. So terrible. Same can be said of Chaos Ogres and Minotaurs. They're all so friggin' ... short bus.

~sigh~ I hear you mate i hear you
I've been waiting for over 10 years for them to re-do those models. I thought they were bum then and that was when i was full of joy, happiness and love for the world.

Cool News on the catapult!!! I don't CARE if it's not tactically sound. I thinks thats just a pretty cool idea.
Mobile herdstone? Hmmm sounds like the warshrine to me.....
New Bestigor models would be cool too, those classic metal ones are nice but they're so tiny compared to the normal beastmen (i'm not talking about the khorngor, bleh)

I always wondered why they had centigor, but no centigor hero :S Why not? Grrr, hopefully they'll get new models too as theres only about 2 models for them. Nice to be able to do a centigor army though now they are core

Short bus? ....... meaning "Window licking good"?

:S I've got 4000 more points of WoC to paint and now i'm writing a beastman army....

Thanks

well, first we have to see if they release them on time. Then we'll have to see what models they release and what the book looks like. According to rumor, the shaggoth and ogres and dragon ogres will be taken out of the book. I can only hope they replace them with something. The rules and magic items need a serious overhaul. Right now they are unplayable in my opinion.

I beleve we are going to get a battalion like evryone else, what do you people expect we get in it? Gors, Ungors, Bestigors, Centigors and maybe some minos?... What do you people think ?

biadetic
January 23rd, 2009, 13:41
A battalion would be real cool.
Maybe something along the lines of 2 units of 20 which include 12 gors and 8 ungors, a unit of 10 bestigors and either a unit of 5 centigors or a unit of 3 minotaur? And perhaps a unit of 10 hounds?

Using the current book that would roughly equal the base points of most other batallions.

Hopefully its not going to be 2010, id be happy enough with autumn of this year.

I think BoC is one of the more exciting up coming army books, the whole concept behind them is outstanding and possibly hasn't yet been fully utilised in the previous versions.

I'll definatly be looking at resurrecting my old BoC collection once they get redone.

And please GW give us plastic minotaurs and Beast chariots!

Lord Borak
January 24th, 2009, 21:25
I can't see a plastic Charriot. The metal one isn't THAT old, It's actually quite nice too. Well i like it :P Compared to the WoC one?

Plastic Minotaurs would be awesome though.
Well if they are making 'chosen' Bestigors, Does that mean there will be Bestigors as well as Chosen Bestigors? That would surely be a new unit???

My wallet is starting to cry.

I believe its a pun on his name... don't worry you'll get it later ;p

Recently GW have tended to produce a load more plastic options when redoing armies, even options that a few years ago would have really suprised me, such as High Elf dragons and Chaos Knights for example. As BoC have been a predominantly metal army up to now I wouldn't be suprised if we saw some new plastic options. As Spyrit said though they are not scheduled to be redone anytime soon though :(

I saw on W**seer they had the likely release schedule for WHFB which seemed pretty plausible. I can't bear to go back and look though. LO till I die!

from What I know, and have heard from friends, it's Lizardmen, Skaven, Imperial Guard and 1 other 40k this year. Don't remember of the other 40k on the block sorry!.

BOC won't be done this year and if it is, it'll be december or january.

Hmm. I've heard that BoC are next (following Lizardmen) or next after Skaven. I've even heard the month of September 2009 being tossed around. Mind you, it's all rumor, and I couldn't quote the source at this point ...

The Raw Materials are cheaper but the plastic moulds are hideously expensive. More So than the Metal ones. It's why GW only makes things it knows it will sell in large amounts in plastic. Just to cover the costs.

I don't think they've hit even for the BaneBlade moulds yet. Those were some crazy ass moulds (i saw them with my own eye!)

Well before there was the change over i had started a very ambitious project of converting a whole army of beastmen.

The aim was to make reposition the gors and the ungors into a more dynamic charging position. I had finished only a beastherd. Now i am waiting for the new book to come out so that i can continue it.

My gors are painted grey with light brown hair and with white warpaint on their faces and bodies. It is my fav unit even because t is one of the best in the whole warhammer world!

How about magic? Really, I hope Slaanesh magic stays the same. I know it most likely one or two spells will stay the same, and the rest will change. Sadly Warriors got my personal fav spell "Titillating Delusions," so I doubt that Beasts will get it too. But who knows.

Anyone think Beasts will get a special lore? What about changes to the Chaos Lore?

I actually had a go of playing Beasts today in just a small proxy game (500 points), and I must say I really enjoyed the movement aspects of the army. I was against Skaven, so combo charging was a necessity, and I loved the ability to move freely and bring units in from the board edge. I also noticed that you have to just go for it with big units sometimes, I actually lost my main herd taking out a Ratling Gun, but I knew it'd do horrific damage to my squishy naked beasties, and it eventually led to me winning! I had my chartiot (with a single wound), my Warhounds, my medium sized ambushing herd and one of my mini herds (Which started out as 5/5 but was whittled down to 2/2 in combat) left alive, and I managed to kill all 100 of the Skaven and their Ratling Gun and general. Yay me! Can't wait for a new book to come out to allow them to have a minimum 5 rank size and some new plastic models!

I honestly can't wait for the new BoC to be released. Though that would make it my third army. I use to run BoC and WoC hand in hand, but now I have "leftovers" after the new WoC/DoC armies were redone. I am a Chaos player through and through and can't wait for the new BoC book to be released.

with Skaven being the Q4 2009 army BoC are obviously set for 2010 at the earliest, i was personally hoping for BoC and TK before Skaven, but alas Splinter and his dirty ninja reptiles took 2009 away from me :freaked-out:. I hope BoC and TK take next year by storm personally
