Hi,

I'm trying to work out an army list and I would like your thoughts.

If I get 3 units of men at arms, and use KOTR in small units for flank charges, should the BSB, with Banner of the Lady, work better on foot? (I will get him the relevant Virtue).

My thought is that if he is mounted, he will get "lost" somewhere, either on combat or movement phase. And due to the small KOTR units he will be a liability.

On the other hand in a big block of Men At Arms, it will be difficult to shift his bonus, when the opponent has to face multiple flank charges.

I'm playing Dwarves, so Bretonnia is completely the opposite tactic wise. :)

I would play to teh strengths of teh Bretonnian Army - putting your BSB on foot is asking for a severe reduction in his survivability and manouvre. He is too valuable a model to have in a block of static CR who are likely as not to break against superior Dwarven infantry. Add in teh fact that his attacks and BSB bonus for static CR will help a unit of knights a lot more, especially if he is equipped with a lance. That additional CR may be teh difference between a Dwarven infantry unit holding or breaking...

I like the idea of a fott knight leading a block of Men at Arms, but I don't think it should be your BSB.

I've done a peasant horde and I think the main problem was the characters on foot along with the expensive of paying for them to be on foot. Far more successful with 3 blocks of men-at-arms then having bsb and general in units of knight lances. I'm actually currently fed up of my bsb dying though he has a 3+ save, I would be even worse of if he was on foot with just heavy armour. I'm currently using a bit of a peasant horde, 3 blocks of 25 men-at-arms, 15 skirmish bowmen, 10 yeomen and can still fit in 5 grail, 7 errant and 9 KOTR along with 4 characters and a trebuchet.

One paladin on foot is pretty cheap so it would be a good choice to join the men at arms, but a BSB with a hundred point banner is far too risky, I don't really agree that the banner is a worth while choice either for its cost.

Yes your BSB is just too important to put it with the unreliable masses. I will share this one experience, I run three flying knights. One got shot and the other two failed their panic test. They fled off the board never to be seen again. That was bad but to see a BSB do the same would be worse.

why would you ever put any kind of knight on foot? for four more points he can get +2 save, greater mobility, annother s3 attack, and the ability to take a virtue other than empathy. Plus you can still put him in a peasent block if you want.

why would you ever put any kind of knight on foot?

Aside from fun fluffy reasons like the "Foreign Exchange Noble from the Empire," which is about what you will have to do since there is a distinct lack of Bretonnian Knight Models on foot, It will add a small edge to your M@A's Block, and is almost an essential requirement if you have buildings on the field, since M@A alone have issues with tougher units in that kind of situation.

As to the BSB... No I would NEVER field him on foot... he's too important for that job
