Alright, this has been bugging me for a long time. We all know that the only reason Marines have such crappy stats is becuase they would be no fun to play against if they were any stronger. They would also cost alot. But Apocalypse has been out for a year and a half. Why not play stronger Marines in Apoc?

WHat!? Overkill!!!
No, if they're say, 35 pts each, and your playing 10000 pt Apoc, you're fine.
What do you think? I would like to know if I'm just an idiot, or if I have an awesome idea.

That would be closer to 60-80 points, not 35. You're effectively changing it to an HQ unit equivalent without Wargear.

word.

look at those stats man, they're HARDCORE. Really, and I don't think that they're stats are rubbish, they've got the best base stats of any other race apart from some scary 40k terminators!

Pretty much. Marines of all kinds are renaissance, so obviously, they aren't superior to our ranged enemies (Tau, IG), and conversely, against our c.c. opponents (Nids, Orks, DE). Marines excel at being above average at everything.

Modelguyicmt, if those are the base stats of your army, I couldn't see them costing any less than 55 pts per model. In the very least, each of those stat upgrades are worth 5 points a pop (in the VERY LEAST).

What about the movie marine rules? Just modify them a bit so they aren't quite so over the top and stuff (like remove the inv save and stuff).

The only problem is that things like krak missiles should (and do) splatter marines, but if you mess around with toughnesses and stuff then things that should instant kill marines won't. If you really wanted to screw around with stats you'd probably have to make stats at least out of 15 or 20 so you could allow for larger variences.

Modelguyicmt's marines are still prone to being instant killed by krak missiles, as their toughness is base '4' (i.e., krak strength doubles the base toughness).

EDIT: Inv save? Where?

I beleive he was refering to the stats from the movie marines published in WD 300 im memory serves. They allowed you to fiels a single tactical squad for your army with a sergeant a flamer, missile launcher, 6 bolter armed tactcal marines a transport and a space marine "Dude".

They were if memory serves T6 and had a re-rollable 3+ save and a 3+ invul save.

Is posting the images from the WD in question permitted by forum rules?

Because if so, I'm happy to repost them for everyone's convenience. If not, I guess it's off to Google, and the murky depths of the internets for you lot.

You can always post a link to an official GW or White Dwarf page :)

I can't find a link to an official GW-hosted version of this, so I've uploaded my copy to imageshack. To try to stay on the right side of forum rules, these are links only, and not inline images.

It was on the old GW site. I guess they took it down when they decided to switch to the crappy version. Its hard to find anything other than models there.

Sorry guys, haven't been active in a couple of days. Yes, I agree that I underpriced a bit, thanks for pointing that out. Thank you Lavallin, that is much better :)
