View Full Version : Spawn Flanking question

This is a question that seems to creep up from time to time.
A spawn is in the front arc of empire spearmen or the like, but the spawn has a direct line to the flank. So I pick a spearman 3 ranks back as the intended direction and then roll enough distance to bring me into contact on the flank. So is it a flank charge, or is it a front charge because the spawn starts in the front arc?
For the most part we side with flank but has anyone else ran into this and have an answer?

The Spawns compulsory movement means you move it in the direction you point it in and it goes straight in that direction if its in the flank its in the flank if you pointed it to the front then its in the front (although i don’t know why you’ll do that :) )
But if any of your opponents doesn’t think its right get them to read the book

Hmm, interesting... So long as he wouldnt "clip" the front, then it would be a Flank charge id assume.

So far this is my logic, but the counter argument that the spawn starts in the front arc and therefor must be a charge to the front does make sense.
Oh and buy the way I do like run the spawn into the front, even if I can get the flank, if there happens to be a yummy looking mage to eat.

Im not positive (just making an assumption here really) but i think the Arcs only count for models/units declring a Charge, which the Spawn doesn't do (i don't think...)

That's how I understand it, too. I /think/ (but could be wrong) that the Hellcannon has a similar kind of compulsory movement that can 'become' a charge (upon a failed Ld test).

Well that seems like a reasonable argument to me. Thanks guys. Anyone else run into anything else similar to this.

yeah thats right since you aren’t declaring a charge arcs dont matter its just moving in a direction and if it ends up in a enemy then so be it (although thats where you want it to be :) )
