Aloha Bugs and Gretchens.

It's time again for that ever-loved competition here on Librartian Online,

IRON CHEF: SCENERY

You will have 3 weeks to make a piece of scenery.
1 week for signups, and 3 weeks of working.
Signups Start: THURSDAY, JUNE 18, 2009
Construction starts: NOW!!!
Final pics must be in by SATURDAY JULY 18th, 2009 midnight
Then voting begins.

Please sign up below to announce you want in the scenery competition.
ANY TAKERS?

RULES:
Okay folks here is the competition!

The contest is simple. Multiple scenery makers pit themselves against one another to find out who can make the better scenery. A classic competition to make scenery for warhammer 40k. We want this to be a simple contest, so anyone following along can watch each of our steps and copy what we make.

The Rules:
1. All scenery must be scratch built. Small ammounts of bits from official FW or GW are allowed, but no full kits are allowed. The more official GW or FW stuff used, the less chance of winning you have.

2. Scenery must be made within the size min/max numbers. at the beginning of each competition, there will be minimum and maximum size for the scenery.
This competition's size range is: 2''x4'' up to 6''x12''.

3. All scenery Should Attempt to use the Iron Chef Secret Ingredient. One of the judges will give the secret ingredient or material that must somehow be incorporated into the scenery piece. The secret ingredient will not be an expensive purchase, and most likely something you can find around the house. Straws, empty soup can, spork, toilet paper roll, etc.

4. All scenery must be photographed step by step or at least documented with milestone pictures. This is important so we can not only determine you did not use a kit, but also, it helps those who are following along, not in the competition, to copy what we make to let them build their own scenery.

5. You must...have fun!

The scret Ingredient is:...

TOILET PAPER TUBE / BOG ROLL TUBE

Iron chef is an american cooking show where 2 people compete for the title of iron chef. Shonuff is obviously relatively unimaginative ;)

Ahh, so if he was a Brit, this competition would be called Masterchef, or Ready Steady Cook... actually Ready Steady Make would be quite descriptive although it would conjure up images of Fern Britton and Ainsley Harriott, so thank goodness he's from the US;)

Anyhow shops visited, stock cupboards raided and bins sorted through, I now have a pile of foamcore, plasticard, cardboard, corrugated card and balsa wood. Here's hoping the secret ingredient is foamcore, plasticard, cardboard, corrugated card or balsa wood ;)

American? It's a japanese show from about 10 years ago, dubbed into english. I believe there's an american version now tho.

Great show! The iconic image of Chairman Kaga chomping into a capsicum (bell pepper, whatever) with such relish. Hilarious!

Clearly the best part was the sumo taste tester who's dub sounded like a 12 year old girl.

We are eagerly awaiting the announcment of the "secret ingredient" and we will be able to start building on either Thursday OR the 26th . . . depending on what Sho really meant!

Would it be possible to partition the mases and have the completion date moved to a Saturday? Reason being is that us poor sods down under are in winter, by the time I get home from work it is dark and getting nice pictures under artificial lighting is a real pain in the behind.

1. the title of the competition is called Iron Chef: Scenery, due to the japanese show of the somewhat similar title.
It is a show where one contestant challenges one of the titled Iron Chefs to make something, using a daily-changed special ingredient. this Special INgredient is not told to the contestants until right before thier timer goes off.

THis is the heart of the idea we had ( Me, Guant, and Duane) when we came up with this competition. We all build a similar themed or idea of scenery, but using the IRON CHEF concept, we toss in a secret ingredient.

Another part of this comp, (which no one is doing) if you go back and look at some of the other IC:S comps.. we like to do a tutorial picture step-by-step so people watching the comp... might say "i wanna build that for my table!" this step has become a "optional" thing.

2. Ending date will be changed to a Saturday for the Aussies.

3. Ah, screw it. here it is..

IRON CHEF: SCENERY VI Secret Ingredient is:

TOILET PAPER ROLL TUBE / BOG ROLL TUBE / @$$ PAPER TUBE

But sho, what can I do with a tube?

Simple, I don't care if you shred it into tiny pieces and flock with it, i don't care if you slice it open and wallpaper a wall of your scenery with it, I don't care if you keep it a tube and make a McDornal's slide for the SM children,There was just 4 examples on how to incorporate using a toilet paper roll tube in your scenery. this one won't be too hard.

Bonus Points for Voting- THEME: OUTPOST
outpost: N. Out-Post = Location of non permanent residence, that consists of a fortified position, of temporary status.
examples include:

SM= Bunker, RUined Building, Wooded bunker, Makeshift Defensive structure.
IG: sandbags, sandbags, sandbags. Fortified ruins, Shelled Chimera hull turned command post
Tyranid: Spore chimney cluster with spawning pool
Chaos: see SM just, chaosey
ORK: pretty much anything they shoot from hehe
Tau: claimed IMperial building corner, rocky mesa canyon mouth,
Eldar: Webway station with ruins for cover, Wooded bunker/webway

etc etc etc etc.

Sho, is the theme necessary? NO.
It's put in for those who want to compete with a theme.
If you reasonably use the theme correctly and make an attempt. I'll add on one vote to your total.

You may begin....NOW.

bugbait_nz

Shonuff I just started to build a piece of scenery using toilet paper rolls : (

My problem is I turned the house upside down to find just 3 toilet paper rolls! Now I have used them, so I will not be able to participate if I have to start over as toilet paper rolls get thrown out very quickly in my household.

Can I use it?

Heres the link to the pictures if you want to make a decision (it might be too big for IC)

(It's the highway / piece of terrain that has toilet paper rolls supporting it)

June 22nd, 2009, 21:24
Does just started mean 90% finished? can you post a pic?

Would be a shame to disqualify any terrain IMHO

June 23rd, 2009, 18:22
Yeah, it's fine. It's big enough to make it a task to complete it 100% which if someone was doing a smaller piece, they'd have just as much work from step 1.

i'm fine with it unless someone else has something against it. it's only cut and shaped and put to a base.

One hour of work won't give you anymore of a jump start. it's fine.

Release the winged Monkeys!
They will mercilessly hunt him down and bite a knuckle off for every part adhered before the alloted time, and an eyeball / personal peanut for every cut made.
I beleive there's a big red button in all moderators pc tables, and they whack it to release the monkeys that are specially trained, and fed only on exess sprues.

I only came accross this competition now. I see It's numbered VI? Three week deadline? does that mean I only have 16 days for my entry? No Theme but bog roll?

I'm in!

Actually I am very happy to find this type of competition as I have been keen on doing some terrain for tabletop gaming for a while. I find promising a competition entry on a forum helps to get me off my ass and complete something. I have some experience doing some scenic landscapes for professional modelbuilding companies. *brag* I hope to do some tutorials sometime with some of the weirder techniques I learned from colleagues. Bring on the glue and plaster.

I'm thinking Tyranid spires.
