I was thinking about building the following list I snagged from these forums a while back for friendly games (would never try to be this evil in a serious setting...). However, it's been a long time since I've played Fantasy and need to double check that ...

First, it's legal.
Second, it's effective.

The idea is to put all the heroes in with the Shades to create a virtually invinicble unit. Now I understand that this isn't very sporting, but - that said - here we are:

2250 pts Dark Elves: Shade "Death Star"

Heroes:

Dreadlord:
> Armor of Darkness
> Pearl of Infinite Bleakness
> Null Talisman x3
> Repeater Crossbow, Great Weapon

Master:
> BSB: Standard of Hag Graef
> Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak
> Repeater Crossbow, Great Weapon

Master:
> The Guiding Eye
> Ring of Hotek
> Heavy Armor, Sea Dragon Cloak
> Repeater Crossbow, Great Weapon

Master:
> Ring of Darkness
> Heavy Armor, Sea Dragon Cloak,
> Repeater Crossbow, Great Weapon

Core:

Assassin:
> Extra hand weapon
> Rune of Khaine
> Manbane

10 x Dark Elf Warriors:

10 x Dark Elf Warriors:

10 x Dark Elf Warriors:

6 x Harpies:

6 x Harpies:

5 x Harpies:

Special:

56 x Shades:
> Champion
> Great Weapons

Rare: 0 pts

None

Total: 2248 pts
> 109 bases

I wonder do people that make these lists actually have 56 shades xD

drop 3x10 warriors replace with 3x5 dark riders

drop 56 shades replace with 15 black guards 12 executioners 5cok 7 shades hydra and 2RBT

drop 2 masters replace with 2 sorceresses

then ur ready 2 go!

Pish posh. That's boring by comparison ;)

I'm glad SOMEONE had the guts to post a reply. Keep in mind, this isn't a "conventional" army list. I supposed I could post my "real" DE 2250 pt list, but that's a bit off subject.

If I were to create this list, I'd convert the shades from a combination of DE warriors, Glade guard, and HE bowmen.

That is one BIG unit to hit, and with no static CR, you will get mown down by enemy fast cavalry, who will hit you in a direction from which you characters can't attack - remember that skirmishers are moved into combat on a basis of the closest to the enemy first.

True, but characters and command can then replace models that are in base to base before combat starts. That being said, it could still be a tough unit to take down. It would be the same as other one trick pony lists. Either win big, lose big, or lose small if the opponent can take out your other units, and avoid this one.

I will not deny that this list suffers from "all your eggs in one basket syndrome," but then this is one tough basket.

I don't understand how fast cav would be a threat considering they probably won't have the grit to withstand my "stand-and-shoot." Also, sirkently is correct about heroes moving to the front. Even still, the ASF ability from the BSB would probably decimate light units if they made it through the shooting.

I think the biggest weaknesses of this "Death Star" would be:

> Other "Death Stars" (my friends have shown me a few, including one with over 60 Chosen warriors)
> Picking off individual heroes in combat (or -perhaps - via shooting).

Taking out only one or two of the Masters could cripple the unit against certain foes. Without ITP, I don't know how long they'd last against hordes of zombies or skeletons (or panic checks from the other insignificant units...).

Nevertheless, I imagine one could avoid the second weakness by merely shooting all the threats rather than charging into combat.
