This is just a brain fart, but is games workshop letting armies fall? I certainly hope not and that somebody tells me that I have it all wrong, but it sounds logical.
Certain armies *cough* Dark Eldar *cough* haven't been revisited for a really long time, and they are just not making profit on them anymore. The same is for Deamonhunters, they start producing less miniatures. And as games-workshop is a company, they just want to take every thing out of the armie, so they don't tell the hobbiests "We will be quit making models for Dark Eldars" but they just let them buy the stuff.
I really hope they wont do those, because it would be kinda shabby (seen as the most of the staff plays the game to) but it could happen. Any thoughts (inside information would be perfect).
And lets pray to Mork they didn't fall that far :soldier:

FYI, though a release date has not been confirmed, the Dark Eldar are being updated with a new codex and models. Many of the GW folks mentioned this at various Gamesday location. An estimate is that it will be sometime mid-late 2010.

Eldar, I believe, have copywrite issues.. This is why GW have enormous trouble releasing anything with the word Eldar in it, it's also why they got so rabid about intellectual property from then on. I'm sure there'll be a DE Codex at some point, even just in PDF.
At worst, they'll probably do a Chaos Dwarves where they suspend the army model range and codex but release PDF rules so people can still play with their armies or convert them. No matter how badly they're doing sales wise, DE aren't Squats. Squats were scrapped because the design team just didn't want to write stuff for them and didn't feel they worked.. DE do work and have successfully established a niche.
I actually think the Inquisition armies have more to worry about.. Even there, in the long term, I think there'll usually be something. Even the lost and the damned concept of human/mutant chaos worshippers is likely to be revisited one day.

Why on earth does Eldar have CW issues? lol
As an aside, i wouldnt be too surprised if eventually all 40K armies were just different variations on space marines :P All the aliens vanish due to being ignored when GW are writing army books and all we're left with are hundreds of different SM chapters :P

It doesn't. Eldar are fully GW owned.
OP- Check out the rest of the rumours forum. There's good info on the current state of all armies you mention, especially *cough*Dark Eldar*cough*.

Why on earth does Eldar have CW issues? lol
Probably because Tolkien said it first. That would be weird, because of the SBG and WOTR being done by GW.
Anyway, the only army anyone really wants to fall are space marines and GW isn't going to be doing that anytime soon.

The way it was told to me the idea for Eldar was produced by a GW employee who retained the IP after he left the company and has since refused to fully release it. It's why they're absolutely obsessed with retaining every inch of IP on anything published about their settings.
Could be wrong though.. That is, as the name of this forum suggests, a rumour.

I think that Daemonhunters and Witch hunters may end up merged together. They were thinking about an Alienhunters book but that has not been seen. The three Inquisiton armies could be merged into one force with things like Grey knights becoming special units or a separate list in the book. Alot of the units will work fine for any of the Inquistion Ordos. SOB, Death cultists, Assassins and Archoflagellants could all work for any group. SOB like cleansing aliens as much as they do Heretics.

This rumour circulates about various aspects of GW fluff. It's not applicable to Eldar. The only case that it even vaguely applies to is Malal. GW wouldn't have bothered releasing the DE or even the recent Eldar re-do if they were under IP contention.
Chaos Dwarves have also been mentioned (maybe not in this thread)- it's worth remembering that Chaos Dwarves never had an army book. They only had collected WD articles that could be used as an army list.
I can't think of a single example in the last 10-15 years where a fully released army was later dropped.

I don't know if it added anything to the WD stuff or if it was just a collection of the articles in one book.

In the UK it is not legally possible to release the IP rights for anything you create to another group or individuals owership. You may permit use but you can't transfer the rights.
That's what stopped a recent fan movie from being released. The fans could not legally transfer the IP to GW. It's not possible.

I think this is highly likely, i just hope faith works the same or at least a simular way. I would hate my sisters to be mergered with gray knights and to lose there faith points!

I know in the US whenever an employee creates an idea or concept at work they have no right what-so-ever to those ideas. If the employee creates an idea or concept at home using ideas or material from work, it is still the property of the employing company. I find it hard to believe that a GW employee could come up with the entire Eldar race and then walk off with it having full rights. Just my speculation though.

Demonhunters, Witch hunters, and Zenos hunters all will be combined into a massive codex called "The Inquisition Codex".
When this -DOES- happen, i'm hoping to see the three armies be mixable and interchangeable.
Meaning - I'd rather field a squad or two of sisters of battle with my gray knights rather than inq. stormtroopers. I'd love to see the gray knights given their power back by being the only squads to ignore the eternal warrior or doing something that stops the Daemon army negating their Nemisis Force weapons. Updating the armies is going to be a needed thing, besides just clumping them together in one codex.

Ravening Hordes? Yeah, that was just all the WD article armies collected in one book, same difference. I think they had a really old edition book though.
I am more inclined to believe the rumors that Forgeworld is doing CD's than GW, I really don't care who it is as long as I get the followers of Hashut in my hands.

This won't be an unalienable right though, it will be written into their contract, albiet as standard.

CDs got a their WD presents book for 4th ed/5th ed, and had the Ravening Hordes booklet the rest of teh time since, whilst pre 4th Ed, they were part and parcel of the main Chaos list in Warhammer Armies supplement, else available as a "mercenary" faction for evil races.
