Haven't really played enough to call it an average, but so far 1500 points is our game size of choice.

Usually 2000, but I fairly regularly 3000pt games in, I'd say once a month. The largest I ever played was 10 000pts - that was crazy. I had to stand on a chair to look at the battle, just to try and keep some kind of battle plan going and not just shooting at whatever was nearest.

wow do you have a 10,000 point fleet!?

Haha - I wish! My fleet (Imperial Navy with some Adeptus Mechanicus) tops out at about 4500pts. I played with two other IN players to get us up to 10000pts and we played against about 8000pts of Chaos and 2000pts of Necrons. With over 100 ships in play, it was by far the biggest battle I've ever played. And the only time I've ever used more than one Battleship!

It was certainly an experience! While it was great fun (not least because we won) it was also quite stressful - trying to make big decisions is very difficult when trying to co-ordinate with 2 other people controling big fleets. In the end the mistake the Chaos players made was fighting several small battles while we faught one big one.

I'd definitely reccomend it if you ever get the chance.

Rep for getting a 10,000 point game in. That must have been incredible. How long did it take?
Mostly jealous you get to play games of 2000pts plus regularly. I've had about 7 games, from 750pt mess abouts to 3000pt trafalgars. Average is hard to say, just wish i could play more.

Thanks much for the rep. It took a weekend - my other half at the time was furious! I suppose given a few breaks it took about 15-18 hours to finish - but a lot of that was the distances involved, we were playing in a mates garage, on the floor - so we had an awful lot of room to breathe. Lots of fun.

For now I tend to play 500-750 point fleet engagements to squeeze quick games in during a long work lunch hour or during a week day evening. It gives us a good chance to try out a lot of different ship combinations and random tactics.

During the weekends we play 1000-1500points. But these are far fewer between the quick games.

My biggest game was a full fleet engagement where we played about 6k. That was a good time, but it requires a pretty big table and a lot of planning on behalf of the admirals. My smallest games are 650 against my friend's Space Marine fleet. He's working on enlarging it, and wants to add in some IN vessels, because I consistently roll his marines. My average is about 1250-1500. Big games just take long to play, and in the "skirmish" format of the game, where the ships don't have to keep a formation or anything, means that smaller engagements are just as fiercely fought as large ones. If macro-tactics are your deal though, and you like being able to really say "send in the reserves" and form "waves" or "lines", then a big of gothic is the most rewarding.

i usually play either 1 500 or 2 000 and constantly switch between the two, although about a month and a half ago i took part in the largest game ive ever been a part of 11 people 16 000 points, per side including all 4 000 points of my marines that took about 7 hours a day and 2 days to play and we had to call it off on turn 5

Haha, sounds fun.

We've just been rolling random scenarios so far so points wise is all over the shot but the highest I've played so far is 2000pts.
