Hi I just started dark elves and my room high elves. Now how do u normally go about fighting them. for now we will be playing under 2k points. He has a dragon mage amongst a few other things. What do u normally take when fighting high elves and some tactics would be nice.
Thanks.

Well if he is taking a dragon, there is no better weapon to use than a Kaledor's bane. Chuck it onto a hero on a fast mount (dark horse, cold one, even a Pegasus with a flight move so you can be sure to get the charge) and it will make really short work of that dragon (I won't go into details as to why, consult your DE book). Correct me if I am wrong, but only the rider will strike first, so that is a little less to worry about.
You may want to consider generally to take magic defense against a high elf army, so throw in a ring of hotek in there somewhere (maybe a cold one champion, or something that moves really fast so you can screw up his magic phase from the word go) and take a lvl 1 scroll caddy, because they will generally thrash us in the magic phase and we can't hit back because they passively get 1+ to dispel. Also, if you feel inclined, use a null talisman on a more expensive unit, but this wont help too much if they are heavily targetted by magic. The best magic defense is prevention.
Because HE's always strike first, give a standard of Hag Graef to 1 of your good combat units, because we will strike in intiative order, and we generally have higher initiative.
Rule of thumb if you are taking bolt throwers is to kill anything fast or enemy artillery, but after you do that, make sure you fire all repeater bolts and bolt throwers at their sword masters. These guys only have 1 real weakness, and that is getting shot to pieces before they can decimate in combat.
That's about all I can think of. Good luck. I hope I'm not writing this too late.

only about a year late thank god.

all you need is something called a repeater crossbow. Lots of them. 50 shots from a repeater crossbow and you should win the game in about 3 turns each game. The dragon mage is the weakest unit in the list. The mage can get a 5+ at best and the dragon can get a 6+ and only has 5 wounds. It should take you about 1.5 turns to take them out (maybe less) and then you have the rest of his terribly small army you can shoot to death. By the time he gets into combat, he will regret it because you get to reroll all your to hit rolls every turn. You'll slaughter him.
