Hi all

I'm playing a friendly 2 vs 2 game tonight and will be teaming up with either an Imperial Guard, Space Marines or Other Space Marines player, vs'ing the 2 remaining players.

So the match up could be:

Necron & Imperial Guard vs Space Marines & Other Space Marines
or
Necron & Space Marines vs Imperial Guard & Other Space Marines
or
Necron & Space Marines vs Other Space Marines & Imperial Guard

The match will be a simple annihilate as we're still learning the game.

Judging from the collection of units the others have, I'm expecting:

Space Marines will be very Terminator heavy and have at least a couple of Dreadnaughts and a Land Raider.

Other Space Marines will also have at least one Dreadnaught and Land Raider, plus an Assault Squad and Librarian.

Imperial Guard will have at least 30-40 guardsmen, a couple of Leman Russ and a Basilisk or Vanquisher.

I've got the following 2 lists I'm tossing up between, with the goal of being able to support my ally, take down high threat enemy units, and still having a chance of living through the ordeal:

1 x Lord
Resurrection Orb

1 x Destroyer Lord
Warscythe
Destroyer Body
Lightning Field
Phylactery
Phase Shifter

10 x Warriors

10 x Warriors

10 x Scarab Swarms
Disruption Field

3 x Destroyers

TOTAL: 1000
NECRONS: 25
PHASEOUT: 6

or

1 x Lord
Warscythe
Resurrection Orb
Phase Shifter
Phylactery

1 x Destroyer Lord
Warscythe
Destroyer Body
Lightning Field
Phase Shifter
Phylactery

10 x Warriors

10 x Warriors

5 x Scarab Swarms
Disruption Field

3 x Tomb Spyders

TOTAL: 1000
NECRONS: 22
PHASEOUT: 5

In both lists, I plan on using the Destroyer Lord and Scarabs to go vehicle hunting while the other Lord protects the Warriors.
If I have Destroyers, they'll just sit on the flanks in support.
If I have Tomb Spyders, I'll probably send them up in front with the Res-Lord and Warriors close behind.

Just so you know what I have to work with besides what's listed above, I also have another 3 Destroyers and 10 Immortals to work with, if you feel dropping a lord and including them would be better for me let me know :) I'm open to all suggestions!

Heya Neutral, Welcome to LO. And welcome to the Necron Tomb! I hope you enjoy your time here.

Even up in 1.5k I'm usually against using two Lords. Necron HQ are very expensive and tend to leave our Phase out Low without being terribly powerful on the board themselves.

In this case, I'd make three lists, one to work with each of your potential allies/enemies, though it would revolve around the same general core.

Decide which lord you want. If you end up against the Terminator heavy space marines, have a list with a warscythe handy. Really I find a res orb lord with some other fun upgrade you may think of is often the best decision. Gaze of Flame, Solar Pulse or Veil of Darkness are usually my "fun" choice btw.

Your warriors are set well from the start, and will work as is.

Destroyers are all around one of our most cost-effective units, their range and firepower serve well against nearly any opponent. I'd take two squads of three of them. Either that or a full pack of Immortals, but personally I find Destroyers more Effective, especially in small games. That range matters (the strength can too!)

Tomb Spyders are extremely effective against space marines, and even more so against Imperial guard. You don't need to worry about them falling, however they shouldn't just be thrown away.

Too bad you don't have any Heavy Destroyers, one or two would be great for popping Land Raider/Leman Russ/Terminators from affar. Though really Destroyers can do rather well at incapacitating them as well.

Keep the Dreadnought out of your lines. Same goes for Termies and any Space Marine HQ choices of any sort.

If possible, have your ally focus on killing the big tanks and other super-tough units, and focus on annihilating light vehicles and troops. Necrons aren't great at super-tough units and vehicles, especially Terminators. However shooting the big vehicles first is your BEST bet to getting through the day, it can slow enemy forces down a lot.

As for scarabs, having a 6-man d-field squad probably wouldn't hurt anything. They will work wonders against IG, less wonders against Marines unless you can tie up a Tactical or scout squad for a nice long time. Hit non-combat specialists with them and they will last far longer

Also, terminator heavy with dreads and a land raider? in 1K? That's..wow, it's just plain mean.

Hey neutral, welcome to the boards. Thankfully you've already made a great start by choosing Necrons, yay!

Right, on to the list.

Necrons are blessed with a rock-solid troops choice, which is a good thing because it's our only one. In 1,500 points you'll probably find that most people tend to run 30 Warriors. This normally wouldn't be a problem in Annihilation, because scoring units aren't as important, but we have Phase Out. And with only 20, the Phase Out number starts to get pretty low.

Your Destroyer lord is a beast, but he's a lot of points. I would suggest dropping him and picking up another unit of Warriors instead. Since you know you will be playing against either a lot of Terminators or a lot of Tanks, adding a Warscythe to your foot lord is a good idea.

Scarabs are a great choice for anti-tank, but don't throw them in with a Dreadnought. For that, rapid fire Gauss weapons are your best bet. Remember, you only need to stun or immobile is, then it's almost not a threat.

Tomb Spyders are an excellent choice against Space Marines, because they rip through Marines like butter. Against IG, probably not as great, but they have the ability to damage tanks in combat if you are in a pinch. One thing though, never give them the Particle Projecter. +1 Attack is more preferable.

Destroyers are a great choice against IG however, because those guns wound/kill on 2+. Against Space Marines, less so, because they still get their save.

Hope that helps!
