Okay, so from the title you may have guessed a new marine chapter... and you'd be right! :)

I've been playing GW games on and off for almost 10 years now, although I started when I was 7 so alot of those years don't count as I had no idea what I was doing/talking about! But it does mean that I am looking for more of a challenge now that I have finally returned to 40k after a 6 year hiatus!

there are a number of problems associated with building a new chapter:

1. Alot of new members of the hobby start with space marines, so they're very popular and common
2. If you paint them blue you become one of the billion people that have done the same
3. Alot of lists are predictable (oh my, is that a land raider in a 750 pts game?)

so to counter this....

1+2. I plan to use a completely different paint scheme which includes absolutely no blue! But seeing as I am no longer a young one/beginner I am going to push the limits of my painting skill, learning new techniques to improve as I go along. Hopeflly this should make them stand out!
3. I'm going for assault marines, more assault marines, and a couple of tactical squads because I pretty much have to... you get the idea... unconventional :)

The chapter is a recent founding from the salamanders gene-seed, pretty much the same paint scheme too.

photos will all be posted here: piccies (http://s854.photobucket.com/albums/ab103/waddywoos/Striking%20Vipers%20Chapter/)
fluff is here: fluffy (http://www.librarium-online.com/forums/40k-army-fluff/177328-striking-vipers-fluffy-goodness.html)

Oh, and I thought I better make this clear - i'm not going for a huge army with thousands of points, I was going to settle for 750 points, but it looks like I may end up nearer 1250 with the models i'm thinking about getting...

What I already had left over: 12 assault marines, 1 badly melted rhino, 5 tactical marines
Already purchased: commander box
Wishlist: battle force, models from black reach (ebay! :)), alpha legion shoulder pads, salamander FW termie pads, alpha legion FW rhino doors, ork transfer sheets (many!)

Salamanders looks cool too, makes me want to go them for the paint scheme. But I love the Dark Angels rules! Ooh I can use a homing beacon on my bikes to bring my combat terminators down, and deep strike in first turn. Oh and scout movement for bikes + rapid speed thingy (move 12") and bam Terminators next to the IG army.

Good luck with this! Looks like you've put some thought into it, and should have some fun getting it all together!

Question - should I post pics on here, or would it be better to provide a link to the photobucket album that I will keep updating??

Rhino is finished! :D I was going to go for mostly black with codex grey edge highlights and some snot green with multiple thraka green washed panels... but it would have taken years, and i'm not very good with painting straight lines so the edging would have looked awful! So I went for the distressed metal look that took approximately 5 mins to do the whole thing :D
I added transfers to the front - after you put them on are you supposed to put something over them? I couldn't figure out what the last part of the instructions on the back meant!

But yes - Its actually an old chaos rhino i did for my first army (yes it looked atrocious and covered in those chaos plates) so I 'purged' it of an chaos iconography with a judicious use of fire and sword (i.e. file and knife - yes, was a lame joke :-P) Which has resulted in the top hatches being completely useless (and hence removed) as well as it looking like the thing has either been through an inferno or a tyranid acid was spalashed on it which I actually like. The fluff dictates that the chapter hasn't many resources for vehicles so repairing a broken vehicle seems to fit the fluff nicely. As it was going to be open topped (not for game rules! just for show) I added some hand rails around the opening from the imperial guard basilisk, and to go with the 'attacked' look I put three deep scores on the access hatch to the driver's compartment ontop to look like some gribbly monster had a go at them as gribbly monsters are wont to do :)

Also up on the photobucket album is my first completed assault marine, a part done assault marine and the Captain (jump pack seperate for painting!) purely because I wanted to show the pose and weapons i've got on him - and is it me or does his left arm with the hammer look kinda long? i'm not sure whether to cut off the cuff thats attached to the hand as standard?

but without further ado I present the link to the photo bucket album which will be housing all the photos I take of minis to do with this project! clicky! (http://s854.photobucket.com/albums/ab103/waddywoos/Striking%20Vipers%20Chapter/)
And i apologise in advance for the poo quality at the moment - i'm using my camera phone as I don't own a real camera - will be requesting the use of my stepfather's tomorrow!

any and all tips appreciated! thanks for taking the time to follow my frst space marine journey!

okay, having talked it over in the lists forum i've come up with a couple of lists to get me started. One is for the 'combat patrol' variant of 40k (we used to call it 40k in 40 mins) and the other is a 750 point list for normal gaming.

COMBAT PATROL LIST:

5 assault marines, power weapon 115
5 tactical marines, power fist, rhino 150
5 scouts 75
land speeder storm, heavy flamer 60
Total: 400

750 POINTS LIST:

captain, thunderhammer, jump pack 155
10 assault marines, power weapon 205
10 tactical marines, missile launcher, flamer, powerfist, rhino 230
5 scouts, power fist 100
land speeder storm, heavy flamer 60

Both lists are contingent on me purchasing a few things from my wishlist. I'd need the Landspeeder storm (the rules are awesome, as is the kit!) as well as buying the battleforce as this would be where i'd be getting the scouts from. I currently have:

Commander, thunderhammer, jump pack
11 assault marines (1 veteran with power weapon)
5 tactical marines (veteran with powerfist)
Rhino

I could actually make this into a 500pts list by splitting the assault marines in two, removing the captain's jump pack and turning his hammer into a power weapon - however this would not really be a competitive list at all!

if anyone is feeling generous enough to tell me how to post piccies in here (tried and failed!) then i'll happily show off my completed Rhino and the first (of many!) assault marines :)
