View Full Version : Hobby Dueling League - Chipmunk and BComs WFB Hero

So this will be the thread I'll update my Hero in. Hopefully Bureaucraticom will also.

The duel is 1 single WFB hero (on foot). Does not have to be built/converted. We have 3 weeks starting the 12th of September to paint this miniature. Bases are included in model judging. May the best man *coughdwarfcough* win.

So my guy arrived in the mail the other day in all his glory. The model itself is atrocious, so let's hope my painting can make up for it :P.

Here he is:

So I'll try and update this later in the week. Our router died, so updates will be infrequent at best, on my end.

Again, hopefully BCom will find this thread and post when he sees fit.

cheers,

So, got a little bit of work done on my Slayer. Pretty pleased with his skin. I'm undecided about his hair and axe handles. I feel the Axe handle doesn't look 'wood-ie' enough. And the hair could used a third or fourth highlight... the highlighting seems to subtle compared to his skin.

Anyways, here he is:

Also, I used some different paints for the skin (some like 1$ crappy paints). Their coverage was poor, and they didn't stick to the model. They'll work for the purposes of the duel, but will suck on a table top. Lesson learned.

Comments and criticisms welcome.

cheers,

*edit: Aaah, I just noticed the skin color on the axe handle... guess I gotta touch that up. Son of a...*

Not bad mate. It seems like you have really decided to challenge yourself by using such a poor quality mini. The painting looks great and really brings it up. I like your moxie sir.

so you say a hero on foot, mine is technicaly not mounted though his is riding a giant rat, we still good of shall i swap out for a different model, i think i have some dorfs of my own some skull pass even.

plague lord nurglitch was my planned piece, though he may be a bit much for 3 weeks, im questioning it now.

maybe ill repaint that old chieftain i have.

I think that is too nice a model to refuse. Honestly you can paint whatever you feel you can finish in the 3 weeks. I only felt limiting it to a model on foot would put things on an... how shall I say this... even footing?

I'll probably be done this guy not too long from now. Did a little work on the Axes. The slayer is a relatively simple model so yea.

Looking forward to seeing your guy.

Ha, that dwarf is one crazy-looking so-and-so. The skin seems to have come out really well.

It shall be interesting to see what he's up against!

No worries man. If you want we can extend the deadline (just let me know if you need it). I've been all over the place these past two months with my painting. I was solid with Black Templar for like 7 months, but now I'm dabbling in Warhammer Fantasy and Mordheim (Dwarfs and Lizardmen). Hence the dwarf in the painting comp.

So yea, with those side projects and Tekore's ToP I've been having a hard time finding time to paint the little blighter since I first started.

I should still be able to make the deadline, but if you need to, don't hesitate to extend it.

cheers,

ps. Looking forward to seeing that sexy Skaven.

Can't wait to see him Bcom.

Here's my guy done. I'm not overly happy with the tat's, but aside from that I'm pleased.

The tattoo on the side of his face is sort of like mike tyson's.

Comments and criticisms welcome.

Though I don't much care for the model (Near naked dwarfs? Eurgh...) you've done a fantastic job of painting it. Love the details on the axes.

Love the dwarf, even though he needs some pants. Can't wait to see the competition.

Ah so we have a dwarf-off! Great model there darcchipmunk, nice clean paint job and managing to make a pretty bad sculpt look good is often quite hard :act-up:. Will be anticipating (or should it be anticipainting :soldier:) Bureaucraticom's competitor and I have no doubts it'll be a worthy one.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I have to say, highlighting a models behind is a new experience.

I think I'm going to go back to my WoC and Marines for now :P.

HUZZAH I AM FINISHED! it was fun though next time i need to decide on a model faster and work on it more than the last few days...er week yeah week haha =D

I'm not entirely sure myself but I think you let C/-Rt3r know and he'll start a poll to decide the winner. Some fine looking Dwarves there, it's going to be a hard choice when that poll goes up!

Some nice dwarf minis there guys.

darcchipmunk - Nice work on such a bad mini, though I do think that the hair could have been a brighter orange - bright makes the slayers stand out.

Bureaucraticom - I like him, the base is pretty nice. I do think that the gold is too bright and too yellow, could do with some more shading perhaps.

Wow Bureaucraticom, that is phenomenal. Your base is like 10000x better than mine :P.

The mini itself is very very nice. The highlighting looks really well done. You have my vote.
