So, I finally got a guy at my club to agree to start playing again. And I'm going to face him and his Dark Angels head on in one week for 1000 points of death, we will be rolling for scenarios after our lists have been made. This is my first time playing Dark Angels and I have no idea what to expect. I threw together this list and think it might work out ok, I still have some points left over and no idea what to use them for. I'm expecting to face a Land Raider and at least one squad of Termis, but anything is possible since he has tons of models (7000-ish points total).

My List:

HQ

Farseer + Doom 80p

ELITES

10 Howling Banshees
+Exarch +MirrorSwords +Acrobatic 187p
+ Wave Serpent + Spirit Stones
+ T.L. Shuricannon 110P

5 Fire Dragons 80p
+ Wave Serpent + Spirit Stones
+ T.L. Shuricannon 110P

TROOPS

10 Guardians + EML 100p
10 Guardians + EML 100p

HEAVY SUPPORT

3x Dark Reapers 105p
3x Dark Reapers 105p

Total: 977p

A flaw right off the bat is that I have no troop staying power, so if we end up playing about objectives I'm pretty boned. Also I'm not sure about 2 groups of Reapers. I'm relying heavily on my Dragons taking out any heavy armour I might face, with by Banshees as a complement to killing whatever comes out of the armour. I case of Rhinos and other lighter vehicles I took the EML's for my Guardians, but I'm thinking Scatters might be better.

I don't have that many options to switch between, I own in addition to the things in the list above: Eldrad, 1 Warlock, 5 Warp Spiders (inc. exarch), 8 Striking Scorpions (inc. exarch), 5 Wraithguard, 20 Guardian Defenders with 2 Scatter HWP's, 16 Harleys (incl 2 shadowseers, 4 fusion pistols, 2 troupe masters and mostly harleys with kisses above that.), 1 Falcon and Maugan Ra.

I can also borrow some figures from another guy, he has 5 Avengers, 10 Guardian Defenders + Scatter, 1 Wraithlord with Bright Lance, 1 Wraithlord with Starcannon, 1 Avatar, 5 Warp Spiders, 3 Guardian Jetbikes (just shuricats), 5 Swooping Hawks.

I'm thinking I might be better off taking 5 Avengers and a Falcon for them and dropping a group of Guardians and Reapers to make up for the points. I also think the Avatar might be useful against this guy, but I don't think 2 HQ's is the way to go for 1k points. Also, on a side note I'd like to use mainly my own models, maybe borrowing 2 groups at the most. I'm also pondering the usefulness of 5 Scorpions with a scorpions claw as an outflanking unit. But I don't know where to get the points for this.

Any suggestions/comments/critique?

PS. Yes I know you want me to get Rangers/Avengers/Prisms and yes they are on my list of things to buy. But I've recently spend 250$ on this and plan to get things painted before I buy any more. Also, I definitely don't plan on buying anything within the next week. DS.

alright here is the list i would reconmend;

HQ: Avatar ***

Farseer with doom 80p

Troops: 10 gaurdians with scatter laser 95p

10 guardians with scatter laser 95p

elites: 8 scorpions including exarch with shadow strike, and stalker he also has a biting blade 160p

5 fire dragons 80p

waveserpent with spirit stones and shurken cannon 110p

Heavy Support: 5 dark reapers with exarch has tempest launcher and crack shot 217p

TOTAL : 1002p

this solves both of your problems, the avatar should be kept with the gaurdians to keep them fearless and give them a boost if they do get in combat. the scorps should outflank contesting objectives while the dark reapers will mow down his infantry in power armour. the farseer should stay back with the gaurdians as well to doom incoming squads then shred them with gaurdians.

hope my advice helps and good luck!!!!

This list looks pretty good, I'd drop Stalker for a singing spear and you'll be right at 1,000

Aside my eldar, I have 2500 Points of Dark Angels, And for this reason, yes Dark Reapers are good, beware of this, bikes, deploying 12", scouting 6", turbo boosting 24" and deep striking terminators without scatter, you expensive reapers would be dead 2nd turn. Protect them. So Dark angels can take a very fast list w/ bikes, attack bikes, and land speeders all as troop scoring units, or take deep striking terminators as troops, that can deep strike 1st turn, and in that case, dark reapers arnt much use. they can have 40 walking power weapon attacks,

I would completely re-work this list (No offence meant), but they can be overpowered by farseers, howling banshees, 2 fire prisms(str6 ap3) against their power armour, or ur main AT, pathfinders are good against termies, (33% chance of ap1) (2+ cover save), If you would like the referance sheet for the dark angels go to this link:
