View Full Version : I want close combat nids!

Alright so with talks of the new codex coming out, i just want to express my optimism for a wave of close combat based tyranids.

I know everyone is enjoying the fact that nid lists can out shoot other armies right now, and the general consensus is to build lists with gun platform fex's and dakka tyrants but to me it seems out of place.

When i think of tyranids it has always been as a tide of bugs sweeping the enemy and devouring them! not shooting as we go and maybe charging!

So the question is: How do we do this?
In the new codex i am hoping that hormaguants, first and foremost, get some nerfing. Maybe a points reduction down to say, 4 points, like their other guant brothers. Make the guant selection universal and give them the options of scything talons and leaping?
Example: 4pts base, 1 point WS, 2 point talons, 3 points leaping-- this makes the leaping guant the same points value as before but now gives people a chance to take a cheaper close combat based guant. and if they were universal that means that without number would be available on them too :drools:

Another MUST in my opinion is the lifting of the 0-1 flying tyrant idea! its ridiculous to nerf our HQ like that and I know that many people wish they could have two flying MC's spear heading their list!

Points reduction in ravenars! i find them to be ridiculously over priced!

For warriors, wings and leaping should be a cheaper option as well.

And maybe give us some sort of transport option!

Sorry I'm just rambling a wish list for CC nids here, ignore me if you'd like :crying:

Hgaunts and gargoyles should be condensed into the gaunt section, and have the winged, leaping, and scything talons as optional biomorphs.

I am still yet to run gaunts though. I find them weak and rarely make their points back, and way too dependant on synapse.
When you compare them to Ork Boyz for 6 points, gaunts are absolute rubbish.

im inclined to agree with you on most points, accept on these 3

1 the 0-1 needs keeping i think, because how broken is it to potenitally have 24 devourer shots into a unit from the first turn, then just run and run and destroy the opponent, and cc tyrants would rip apart everything in their way within seconds.

raveners dont need points down (well maybe a bit) but more an armour increase, to my knowlege they are the most expensive model with a low save out there cept nobs and they nealy always have a 4+ and or 5+ invulnerable. 3 or 4+ would be more like it.

warriors leaping is fine, i think wings need to come down to about the same level i think, but so long as i get some plastic wings not those expensive resin jobs, ill be ok with that!

I think your idea for gaunts sucks. Gaunts just need a flat drop, no nerfing needed, but rather a buff, like a drop to 5/6 points for your hormie, and base 3 for our other gaunts.

Lictors need either a serious overhaul or a flat out points drop. [points] is too much for what they do now.

I like the raveners save increase. It's something really needed for those guys. And of course a plastic model.

Transport for Tyranids just doesn't make sense unless you mean spores like they had in 3rd, which were like drop pods for Tyranids.

those are all great idea's, I really enjoyed reading them.
I also hope there will be a kind of transport.
I think de that drop pods will work fine.
and I think we need some kind of unit with a good BS, now we only have the hive tyrant with upgraded BS.
so maybe a cool new elite shoice for that.

I think our biggest problem is point costs.

I don't think increasing a raveners save is necessary. I think the idea thing for them would be to give them a 5+ cover save anytime they are more than 12" from the firer. Call it Quick or something. It means they wont lose the whole squad from 8 bolter shots which I think is the only thing they really need to worry about.

Gaunts should be almost free...I don't think I have killed more than 2 models with a gaunt in my last five games. Last game I assaulted 2 marines with 10 guants, lost, fled, and then was shot to bits...I know it is only 50 points but I was only asaulting 30 points of bolter marines, I should be able to do something.

I really would like gargoyles to go back down to 10 or less...12 is points prohibitive.

Toughness 5 warriors seems like it could be in the works because everyone else is getting a toughness 5 unit (wolfriders, ogryens, bloodcrushers, Nob bikes, real Necrons). I think warriors could be next in line at the cost of enternal warrior. I think we should probably stay toughness 4, but 5 would be fun; I would like to stay four, lose eternal warrior and get a point decrease to make up for lack of missle launcher surviveablility.

I think we might be able to take two flyers, but I don't think we will want to as I am better that the TL devs gets a Nerfing. It may just lose living ammo, but on a tyrant that could be enough.
