Okay since i've started playing Bretonnians i've been making alot of lists. Now the problem i have is the first time i gave my BSB Virtue of Duty and a Sword of Might. I see alot of people use this as well. But many times i've been scolded for "cheating" and giving my BSB a Magic Sword. Can i? Or can i Not take a Sword of might?

It states in the codex that. He may take a magic banner with no point limit. IF he does this he can not take other magic items.

So this tells me that IF i don't take a magic banner, i can use magic items. Is this not true?

The Argument people say to me is he may not take any other equipment. Including Magic weaponry and armor.

I'd really love anyone's argument to this.. my BSB is running around a bit undertooled even with the combat res. :thunder:

it is true you may not use other equipment as a bsb. You may however use magic items as long as they dont count as equipment your not allowed to have.

if your banner is not magical, you may have a sword of might, because it replaces a one handed weapon. your bsb has a one handed weapon as stated in the armybook. A magical shield or lance etc are not allowed.

Magic items do not count as equipment in this section, they count as magic items.

Digger has it spot on.

It would be particularly unfair if our BSB couldn't have any magic items other than banners. Yes it does say any extra equipment. It does not say MAGIC ITEMS and the sentence in the BSB section to the left does imply we can have magic items.

Equipment refers to the section on the Paladin army list, which first lists equipment and then options. Since you can't have a magic Item you can't have the mundane version of, he is limited only to Enchanted items, Hand weapons, sets of armour that DO NOT include shields. NO lances, no shields, no great weapons, ie nothing that would require two hands to wield (though you could argue a lance only takes 1).

The sword of might is a perfectly fine option for the BSB, and one of the most common given in combination of the virtue of duty.

If other people are giving you stick on this saying you are cheating, they really need to get some perspective. This would be a massive hinderance to our BSB over all other armies, and basically give us no options for the BSB (since most of our banners aren't worth the points or fit better in units) where as most other armies can fully equip their bsb with anything.

Firstly reassure them you are right, and secondly tell them to stop being rules lawyers and enjoy the game in the spirit it is meant. If they want to, focus on working on their own armies to try to win, rather than trying to weaken yours. This is a cheesy attitude brought to new levels.

I am not angry!!!

No, this just happens to be one of the most commonly discussed topics, and I am so used to correcting people who ask can their BSB have the enchanted shield, or can he have the wyrmlance, it gets frustrating explaining this rule. However in this situation its different as our good old fellow knight is being screwed over by the people he is playing with, adding more confusion and worsening the point!

I am on your side in this man, you haven't cheated, you interpreted the rules (correctly I can add).

PS. Have just realised in my standard lists now my BSB doesn't have any extra equipment anyway... but the point still stands.

May I ask if the BSB Paladin can use the Gromril Great Helmet?
I can understand the argument for the lances/shield as extra equipment. But he still has a helmet already!

You are right

The gromrill Helm is the same case as the sword of might. It does not count as extra equipment, but it does count as a magic item. As long as you do not use a magic banner, a BsB may have a gromrill helm

equipment (and magical items) a BSB may NOT choose:
- shield
- morning star
- lance
- great weapon

also remember that because of this, the BSB cannot take the Armor of Agilulf, since it contains a shield as well as the heavy armor.

It may be obvious to some, but I have had an opponent try to argue that his BSB could take it.
