I just wanted to see what people think is the most "killy" chaos unit. Personally, I am a huge fan of my Noise Marines, The Doom Siren is the most killy thing for me.

Well, Daemon Prince or Defiler for me. Although Wind of Chaos with Warptime is pretty freakin awesome.

Echo here! Its a complete beast, I used mine in combination with a lash prince. Pull them in, unleash the warp, then punch the remainder!
To add to this, the Karmoon special is great if dropped in short range. Heavy flamer then all the plasmas is a real threat to anything not in cover.

I'd vote Obliterators myself. I prefer the ability to kill many many things over buckets of dice. "You got it, we'll fry it."

tough choice between obliterators and a deamon prince.

I also love Noise marines for the sheer amount of shots they can put out with sonic blasters and Blastmasters (expensive though).
But for most killy the DP example given above is nasty.

Kharne with a unit of 20 zerkers as far away from each other as rules permit!!! Eh, eh?!? anyone else agree???
Lol I like Oblits myself.

Don't forget about 1ksons AP3 bolters will make all sorts of people cry.
Oblits vs Prince...Hard choice, both are great and I never leave home without them.
Just for fun a full unit of bikers with mark of nurgle and a chaos lord on a bike with what ever mark you wish and a daemon weapon...It's silly but it will do some damage for sure.

I'm almost surprised no one has thrown out the Vindicator with daemonic possession yet!

Oblits for me, when you got that many guns it's kind of hard not to kill everything you see!

Slaaneshi lord w/daemon weapon. Slays virtually everything it touches. Guy at my shop got charged by 3 carnifexes, BAM, three dead carnifexes. 'Nid dude almost started to cry (one was a godfex, hahaha).

Serves him right for being to stupid to keep them in Synapse against that.

They were. He thought he was safe, then the CSM guy pointed out that Synapse only protects from Instant Death caused by weapons with a strength double their toughness, NOT ones that cause it regardless of toughness. Of course, he only pointed this out after he had rolled to wound.

Oh I love how no one reads the army FAQs. If they had he may have known his Fexes would have been fine. Lords suck in general anyways. :p

I'll have to disagree. While waiting for the plastic DP (whenever that will come out...) I've been using an unmarked lord with a Daemon Weapon and a combi-whatever-the-unit-he-runs-with-have with some good results. The extra strength comes in really handy. He may not be an über character killer, but I usually just use him on standard units, something he really shines at.
Sure, there may be better choices but Lords do not suck.

Man it's getting so you can't say anything sucks in Warhammer anymore. By my logic, when other choices in the same slot vastly out-perform your other options, one is probably better than the other.
DPs are quite killy compared to a Lord on a points ratio and all those other intangibles in a game. How shall I phrase it....the Lord doth not shine as brightly as a Prince of Demons? That sounds nicer.
GW is being quite lazy with all things demons lately though.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work. The Tyranid FAQ brings clarity to this fact and states: "Tyranids within Synapse range are not affected by the Instant Death rule."

O. Well I'm glad it wasn't me playing, so I didn't make the mistake. Still think that the s. lord w/dw is awesome though.

Nope, none of those guys. Behold (and I did roll it)
Khorne Possessed with Powerweapons ability in a Landraider. 4A on the charge, powerweapons, S5, invul save. Just plain nasty.

I prefer my killy units reliable and not insanely priced but that does sound pretty cool.

Funny i was just about to give possessed as a example of something we could all agree are just not that good....

I'll throw this out there, not cost effective, but def killy:
10 Terminator Champions, w Mark of Khorne, 8x 2 Lightning claws, 2x hv Flamer & Chanfist
Each Termi w LCs has 5 attacks base. the Chainfisty ones have 4 each... deepstrike, survive the storm of fire, then kill stuff...

That's funny, I was about to say I smelled a troll in the vicinity. There, I said it.
Oh, I bet you've never used them, too. 2 of the rolls are really bad, 2 are okay and 2 a pretty good. so you have a two third chance to roll something fair and one third to roll something pretty good.
So if roll sucks, who cares. It's a game. And for your knowledge, that unit kicked ass and took names.

October 24th, 2009, 02:42
But would you use them game after game? If taken out that unit if only 5 models will cost about 140-150 points right? Its pricey and thats not including the land raider.
If I didn't already suggest something I'd say khorne berzerkers... Even though I don't use them all that often when I do every now and again they do well.

Guys, guys, I think you're all forgetting the most (un)valuable unit in our codex, CHAOS SPAWN!!!! Surely, no one actually uses them.....

OMFG SPAWN YOU SUCK! Naw just kidding. *hug*
I wish spawn were a bit more effective like they are in Fantasy, great tie up unit but 40k has to much shooting. They didn't do a great job of crossing them over but that's true of most Chaos units one way or another.

How did this thread go from most Killy to most useless?...i have little idea...
There does seem be a little debate as to most killy for your points vs Most killy for what the frick, just take anything.
Were points of little value and the stars were right...I would think Abaddon in a full squad of Khorne Terminator champions all with pairs of lightning claws would take the cake.
Killy for points....DP all the way in my book.

I agree with both the warptime daemon prince's ability to reroll to great avail, with the obliterator's ability to kill anything. So, the answer is very simple, EXPENSIVE, but simple
One Land Raider with basic wargear as a dedicated transport for 4 terminator champions, all with L. Claws and an MoK, and Abaddon. Reroll to wound, no armor saves, best case scenario 35 attacks on the charge for the squad, and it's got Abaddon for Khorne's sake (Sorry, i had to...), he is the SUPER BROKEN unit in the Chaos Codex. Hell, last weekend I took out 4 Carnifexes with him! THAT is epic.
And Nidzilla sucks. I defeats the point of nids completely. They should figure a=out a way to disallow it.

If you really want to get down to the nitty gritty efficient killing unit type, you have to distinguish between their roles as Infantry, or tank/MC killer. Personally if you are going to drop points into any unit, do with a infantry killer unit. Anti-tank and MC killin' is easily handled via shooting.
Terminator Lord w/ deamon weapon, and the rest of the other Terminators, w/ MoS and Lighting Claws, all in a Land Raider cheap and efficient killing. Proverbial can of whoop-ass. Killing MCs in combat is stupid, against a DP, even more so against a Carni.
