So I've decided to make a desert-themed tomb-world for 40k necrons, and, although it didn't quite turn out the way i wanted it to, it still turned out pretty well for my first time. I should also state that it's WIP, and I've spent all weekend working on it.

First up, the board. I cut up one large MDF sheet into 8, smaller and almost exactly even smaller pieces. After I've stuck on all the scenery, ill be able to re-arrange the tiles so i have a different battlefield all the time.

On 4 of the 8 MDF sheets i stuck hills: two stepped ones and two sloped ones. here is an image

I also made a bunch of trees from sponges. Seen it's an alien planet, i painted them a mixture of green, orange, yellow and brown. Kinda weird colors for a desert planet, huh?

btw, the trees arent done. I need to add more highlights as well as find some dead trees to add to mah collection.

Finally, here is the obelisk. it's made from polystyrine, cut with a saw. it's not done yet, i have to fill in some plaster and paint it (as well as about everything else.)

Until next time, Zane

I like the shapes of the hills, they should be great when painted and the colours you picked for the trees are spot on.

I love those trees! Also good job with the hills. It seems you left enough room for figures to stand on.

i feel the obelisk needs a little more alien look to it

looks too much like the washington monument

Go heavy with the plaster, sand it down then scribe in some necron glyphs, with look good!

thanks for the replies, guys!

I probably wont be able to continue until the weekend sometime, it takes about 45 minutes alone just to pull all the stuff out.

The hills are actually coming along nicely. they have a few cracks, but nothing i cant fill in with plaster.

The trees are also finished nearly. They fit perfectly on the trunks and i just need to stick them on with PVA.

I know the obelisk isn't very alieny. Ill probably end up plastering it all up anyway, while carving in some lines (like the obelisk), painting them black and scorpion green and adding symbols.
