I have been building this lately over at Terragenesis for a heavy weapon comp.
Started off as a sketch on the back of a business card last year, Gun made from the 3 shampoo bottle pumps, the shampoo bottle and a Ovaltine top.
Lots of 5mm foamboard has disappeared into this.
More small details to be added and then a grimy grey (a bit like that new SW GW table)

The gattling lasers need to be bigger, The rest is amazing but the proportion of the gun it's self is very small, The kind of laser im thinking off is the ones you find on a warhound titan that shoots at low anchored ships. IF that is just an any old AA gun then get those flak-autocannons

I guess its not to late to make them longer, but then the turret might look too small.
Or maybe change the name to anit-aircraft defense system.

The Ion cannon from Return of the Jedi was about that proportional. Could be and high powered beam or something length doesnt make strength.

length doesnt make strength.
true, length makes accuracy and who needs accuracy when its a gatling!

I want to see you make a whole table bugbait! Unless you have already and I have not noticed? But all this is frigging sweet and don't worry about the lenght of the lazer it still looks bad ass!

This is what it looks like at the moment, I might have a play with slightly longer barrels and see what it looks like.
The smaller tower is ment to be for a sensitive antenna that has to be kept away from all of the energy generation/discharge for the weapon, the ball on top of it is a geodesic dome to protect that antenna, any thoughts on that? I didnt think a traditional radar dish would look any good. . .
In the near future I will be able to have a table so I will have to stop making random stuff and concentrate on a complete set, want a city fight/DOW table, one for my fortress + barbed wire + tank traps + trashed vehicles.

Thanks Pilot00
I have extended the gun barrels by 20mm, Im happy with how it looks now.
Undercoated with automotive primer, will be going for a weathered dark grey look.

ingenious as always, oh and that space wolf is a serious poser, he seems to work his was into every one of your shots in every one of your projects... must have been a model before he became a space pup.

The Ion cannon was also about 30-40 times the volume, and has a wrap-around structure firing Ion shots. Planetary and ship-mounted defence lasers are essentially Volcano cannon and should reflect the required size, structure and weight that also dicattes the minimum size of a ground vehcile that fields the same wepaon, the ShadowSword super-heavy battle-tank. Those look like laser-destroyers in terms of scale, so this could be a heavy point-defence turret rather than a true planetary defence turret...

Would be good at taking out droppods, thunderhawks etc entering the atmosphere if not capital ships in orbit

Can drop pods even be shot down? I thought the advantage of drop pods was that they couldn't be shot down.

Very very hard I thought, but short of teleporting nothing is impossible to intercept if anything could do it, it would be a gatling laser cannon!

Fair enough. Not sure how common they would be though, otherwise drop pods would no longer be useful fluff-wise.

Chaos Deathclaw assault pod certainly can, maybe not a modern drop pod.

@matus, I like to include a mini for scale reasons and everyone thinks that Space Wolves are sexy! (they have lost true grit, does that mean I have to remodel or wait for 6th Ed to change them again)
I have no probelms with calling this "Building with gun" rather than planetary defence.
I have made another base for this, planning on making a few more of these bases for Hydras and Manticores one day.

Have undercoated the small base,
Nearly finished the top section and just the control room to do with some of Tommyguns control panels from here - Tommygun does what with paper? - WarSeer (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226343)

Looks great but i would like to point out something...
When i said the guns need to be bigger i ment barrel width/diameter not length
bugbait_nz
November 17th, 2009, 20:10
If I made the barrels wider then they would look too big for the turret, I would have to make the turret bigger, then all you would have is a scaled up gun that might look too big for the building.
Im happy with the look, I just wont call it a planetary defence position.
